This is the definition of the human tongue out of a medical manual:

TONGUE

The tongue (fig. 3-18) is a vascular, thick solid mass of voluntary muscle surrounded by a mucous membrane (epithelium tissue). Located on the underneath side of the tongue is the lingual frenulum, which anchors the tongue in the midline to the floor of the mouth. The tip of the tongue is free moving and can readily change size, shape, and position.

It is 100% muscle

i am sure that the medical dictionary did not say that the tongue is 100% muscle...lol

because i have taken histology and anatomy, i would think i would know what is in the tongue and what isn't.....

the tongue has 4-5 intrinsic muscles inside -- oriented in different directions, and 4 extrinsic muscles which control it....

the tongue has a mucosa -- similar to the skin of our arm

the tongue has a lamina propria -- similar to the lamina propria underneath the dermis of our skin -- this is an area of connective tissue which contains all sorts of things

the tongue also has nerves not typically found in muscles -- specialized sensory neurons

the tongue has glands on its surface in the mucosa -- similar to glands on our skin

the tongue has modified epithelia called taste buds on its surface

muscle tissue does NOT have taste buds, glands, epithelia....thus, the tongue consists of muscle tiss in addition to other stuff......

there you have it......the tongue....now you are all better anatomists....

Yes, the tongue is made of muscle. It is not *a* muscle. This is not a difficult difference to understand.

(Clue: there may be more than one muscles in the tongue)

Enough with that Damn Tongue thing! I too would call my Pecker a Love Muscle but it contains no Muscle at all! Only two blood filled cavities:
1. Corpus Spongiosm
2. Corpus Cavernosm

Which fill with blood when you become sexually stimualted! All this and just a little connective tissue! So is it really a big debate?

Well I guess It might swell if it were persuaded to do so with a little Viagra
:p

Lighten Up guys this is supposed to be fun!

The Largest Muscle in the body is the Gluteus Maximus!

The Largest organ in your body is your Skin!

The male Praying Mantis cannot copulate while its head is attached to its body. The female initates sex by ripping the males head off . ( Hi honey i'm home .. What The ...) :D

Right-handed people live , on average , 9 years longer then left-handed people do . (if your ambidexterious do you split the difference? )
