Fight Card
-------------------------------------------------

Alistair Overeem vs. Fabricio Werdum
Josh Barnett vs. Brett Rogers
Daniel Cormier vs. Jeff Monson
Chad Griggs vs. Valentijn Overeem
Jorge Masvidal vs. K.J. Noons
Gesias "JZ" Cavalcante vs. Justin Wilcox
Magno Almeida vs. Conor Heun
Nah-Shon Burrell vs. Joe Ray
Mike Bronzoulis vs. Todd Moore
Brian Melancon vs. Isaac Vallie-Flagg

ummm......the Daniel Cormier vs. Jeff Monson fight = :bed:

I may be on acid, but I think Brett Rogers may pull off the upset. By fight day his odds should be even better then they are now.

A win is a win........

I know Rogers isn't great, but it is a more of an "anti Barnett" play. If the odds keep getting better on Rogers it may be worth a shot. In my mind Barnett is top 10 material when it comes to over-rated fighters. I mean since 2009 he has three wins versus Gilbert Yvel, Siala-Mou Siliga, and Geronimo dos Santos, yeah real impressive:facepalm:

One isn't very good and one is massively over-rated, it may be worth a shot on the big underdog.

ummmm.......I'm going to go with a no on the Monson go-go plata.

But I do think he'll land two flying knee bars in the 1st round. And in round 2 I see him climbing the fence a la Pettis style:)

I am a fan of Overeem's but I have become a little skeptical of him.
Werdum +305 is tempting.

I think Overeem has average balance and can be taken down by Werdum. I have serious question if Overeem can go more than a round without gassing.

If Werdum can survive the early onslaught and get the takedown before the Over knees come then I think Overeem will be in trouble.

I also think Cormier is going to abuse Monson. It might be dull but it will be one sided.
Same goes for Barnett over Rogers. Barnetts via Clay Guida style.

Overeem-Werdum

Overeem-Werdum

I had concerns about Overeem's stamina until I saw him win the K1 tournament in December.

Spong gave him an enormous challenge in the first round of that tourney, hurting him early in the fight. Reem not only held on, but came back to beat the piss out of Spong (a very good striker) over 3 rounds.

Then he went on to dominate Saki and Aerts in the final two matches.

I think Alistair's stamina is fine.

Werdum seems very cocky in interviews - calling Alistair his "son" and saying he owns him.

I rewatched the first bout, and Overeem (a much smaller version of himself) was beating Werdum until he caught with an armbar (Werdum on bottom).

If Werdum gets him down, I suppose the same thing could happen. But I highly doubt it. I think Overeem is going to punish Fabricio on the feet and KO him.

And if Werdum attempts one of those lazy takedowns (like he did against Silva and Kyle), Overeem is going to knee his teeth through the back of his head.

Barnett-Rogers

Barnett-Rogers

I don't disagree with kick regarding Barnett - he hasn't fought anyone tough in a long while, he has a big mouth, and probably is a bit overrated by media.

HOWEVER, Rogers absolutely sucks.

I think Barnett will sub him.

If Rogers does pull it off somehow, it will be a pretty funny semi-final rematch against Overeem. Odds in that fight would be about 100-1.

And if it ends up being Rogers-Werdum? Well that would mean the winner of the SF Grand Prix would be either Rogers, Werdum, Big Foot Silva, or Kharintonov.

Not exactly what Coker had in mind I think.

I have to admit I am surprised at the odds for Werdum.

Overeem is a beast and is on a tremendous run but it has been a few years since he has faced a top level submission guy. Werdum is that guy. The question is can he get him in a position to grab that submission

I'm not totally sold on Overeem as the force everyone is saying he is. If he wins this weekend then he will be a lot closer to convincing me.

But I'm on Werdum (small). Maybe the Fedor win has clouded my judgement:shrug:

Keep in mind Dos Santos knocked Fabricio Werdum's head off in less then three minutes.

Just sayin.

Also keep in mind the last time Overeem fought a top 10 guy Dan Severn was the shit.

"the bunker"
in every fight before he started taking whatever adds 50 pounds of muscle on to your frame, overeem would start out like a house on fire....he was abusing chuck liddell...but when liddell didn`t fold,it was like overeem lost his heart....

this probably isn`t the case now that he`s morphed into he-man.......i wouldn`t ever sell wedum short...he can beat any heavyweight on any given day....but he beat the "old" clark kent-ish, normal overeem....

it`s gonna be interesting to see what he does with superman overeem....

even couture is amazed at overeem`s transformation...

Have you seen Werdum's standup? I'm a HUGE supporter of Werdum, but his standup is average at best. He got lucky against Fedor when Fedor had him mauled. Dos Santos completely sandstormed him. Overeem is going to TKO him IMO.

JDS and Cain would beat Overeem, easily.........but may be a mute point...Werdum may beat him again on Saturday.

Barnett is a fucking idiot........and a cheater.

Of course you think that because he doesn't fight for the UFC.

I think Overeem currently is the #2 HW behind Dos Santos @ #1. That would be a much more amazing matchup then seeing Cain vs JDS
