Utep vs Tulsa (ESPN2) 08:05 pm Tulsa -14

The Golden Hurricane (6-1 SU and 5-1 ATS) have decided advantages on both sides of the football and have consistently played at a high level this season. They have revenge on their mind as last year they fell 41-38 at UTEP, which was their only SU loss in their last eight games in 2005. Tulsa is on spread runs of 15-3 overall, 9-2 as a chalk and 14-3 against teams with winning records. Going back to last season, the Golden Hurricane is on runs of 12-2 SU and 11-2 ATS overall and 4-0 SU and 3-1 ATS at home. UTEP can't run the football, plays sub-par defense and rarely performs well on the road (lost by 17 at Houston last week, lost outright by 13 laying nine at New Mexico in its previous road game). The Miners are just 2-7 ATS in their last nine roadies and 3-7 ATS in their last 10 under the lights. Tulsa won and covered its previous weeknight national TV game this year over Southern Miss and the Golden Hurricane will score the home win and cover tonight.

Tulsa has played some talented offensive teams like BYU and is still allowing just 16 points and 259 yards per game. They allow 121 yards per contest through the air, and that's what they'll mostly have to defend tonight as UTEP (79.6 yards rushing per game) is not a balanced offensive team. QB Jodan Palmer has had some success, but he's also thrown 10 picks. And on a windy night in Tulsa, he'll toss at least two more this evening. In three home games, Tulsa has allowed just 16 total points (albeit against not-so-strong competition) after holding Southern Miss to six a few weeks back.

I won't go into great detail here, but Tulsa will be able to rack up a sizeable number of points this evening. After scoring 35 (Memphis) and 31 (ECU) the past two games on the road, this Golden Hurricane will rack up a big number at home against a UTEP stop unit that is yielding 29 points and 401 yards (270 pasisng) per game. Behind standout passer Paul Smith, the Golden Hurricane are averaging 29.6 points and 405 yards per game. They'll post a big score and Tulsa will win and cover for the sixth straight game.

Tough game to call IMO. UTEP got blown out @ Houston last week. UTEP has done much better in turnover margin this year as they are +4:scared
Palmer has a chance to help his draft prospects big time with a solid effort tonight. UTEP's stop unit is putrid giving up 29 PPG & 401 yards:scared :com:

Leaning towards T-town, but haven't made a decision.

Ray,

Wrong forum, but do my Birds seal the deal tonight?? Gimme a wink
If they get this Game 5 played, then it will be the Cardinals closing things out against this Detroit team that has really been its own worst enemy in this series. The Tigers didn't hit much in Games 2 and 3, and when they did in Game 4, bad luck and yet another throwing error from a relief pitcher did them in. The Cards want to close this thing out tonight and home and they will.

It's a tough spot for Detroit's tiring Justin Verlander, who is only 1-1 with a 7.47 ERA in three postseason starts. In Game 1, the Cards scored seven runs on six hits in five innings against the Tiger rookie, who has now thrown 201 2/3 innings this season. If he can't get some pop on that fastball in this crisp, soggy weather, then David Eckstein and the Cards on going to be on base a lot and scoring runs.

Jeff Weaver (what a turnaround season!) is off his worst postseason start in taking the loss in Detroit's 3-1 Game 2 victory. But he was solid down the September stretch and has been very effective overall in posting a 2.91 ERA in four postseason starts. He's a veteran and he'll step up and then turn things over to that suddenly fantastic Cardinal pen. While the Tiger releivers have been tossing the ball away on routine plays, the Cardinal rookie trio of Adam Wainwright, Josh Kinney and Tyler Johnson have been dominant. In the postseason, the three have allowed just one run in 22 1/3 innings. Whoa! Wainwright, who got the win last night, will pick up his fourth playoff save tonight and it will clinch the World Series for the St. Louis Cardinals.

It's a cold, very windy day here in Tulsa. Agree with you Raymond TU very good ATS this year & they just keep covering. They tend to fly under the radar, don't get the pub the big 2 do OU & OSU just down the road. Good luck & nice write-up.

Meh

Meh

This game is definately Under the spread, and I'd take a gamble on the prop bet that 2+ TD's are scored via special teams.
