I was too mad last night to reply to this thread and say what I really meant to say.

Here is a question for all you people who want to tell me to get a fawkin clue:

If you had an infant with special needs, and a teenage daughter who was about to have a baby, would you accept a promotion at your job that involves high levels of responsibility, extended trips away from home, and a lot of public scrutiny - basically you would not be able to be at home with your new child or help your teenage daughter with her new baby. Now I don't care whether you are a man or a woman, answer this question honestly and then tell me to get a fawkin clue again.

Since she and the republican party are touting her as a "hockey-mom" and conservative who puts "family first", I think this is a legitimate question to ask.

I will tell you this - I would put my family FIRST and say screw my political ambitions.

But if McCain wins the election and she is the new VP, wouldn't that afford her family the absolute best opportunities afforded in regards to immediate, high quality medical care, education, and even more importantly, a very unique exposure to worldly affairs during a time of economic globalization... wouldn't that be a pretty good thing for her family?

Of course, there would be benefits for her family. And of course one person must be the "bread-winner" in the family. I just know that as a young woman myself who just gave birth, I needed my mother (and still do) to help guide me through the process of becoming a mother myself! And I cannot imagine spending less time with my infant than I do now. In fact, I just took a pay-cut at work so that I can do all of my work from home to be with her.

Having a family means a lot of personal sacrifices for the parents. Sure, sometimes there are a lot of things I would rather be doing than "playing mom". Although it may seem like it, I am not passing judgment on their family - I just wonder if it is the best time for her to try to further her political career. She is young enough that she should have plenty of time to raise her family, and then pursue her ambitions...? And I just think they need to stop touting her as "family first" because this is obviously not the case.

Hold on a second:

family situation:

17 year old - 5 months pregnant - with a father whose life ambition is to play more hockey and video games (however, in line with Republican family values, morals and the laws of abstinance, the young Levi will marry young Bristol) (odds that this marriage will last forever are sllightly better than the same odds that were placed on the Carmen Electra and Dennis Rodman marriage) (further don't know if they plan on moving to Washington or buying a nice little igloo in suburban Juneau).

toddler with downs syndrome (special needs child)

So you have a toddler with a ton of needs, physical and emotional, the other siblings who are growing up and will have their regular adolesent and childhood issues, and a 17 year old soon to be mother who is going to need a lot of help and a mom who is the vice president of the United States.

No problem.

As HH said, this is not family first. This is Sarah first. She will be playing to the camera's. Form before substance (all to the detriment of her children who will really need her and to the pleasure of the mob who thinks she is the ideal "hockey mom")

Role model? I don't think so. Unless you consider sacrificing the care, love, and nurturing of a mother to her mentally challenged toddler in exchange for personal and selfish power, prestige and money something to look up too. I guess under the definition of Republican family values its okay, cause you didn't see a whole lot of mentally challenged kids at the RNC did ya? They were more likely to be in Denver last week.

Like Cindy McCain's invisible half brother and sister, Sarah Palin mentally challenged offspring isn't worthy enough or good looking enough or lucky enough to be a republican. She will probably grow up to be a Democrat.

Vice President of the United States

Vice President of the United States, the second highest ranking official in the U.S. government. The president and vice president are the only nationally elected officials. If the president dies, resigns, or is removed from office, the vice president becomes president. In addition, the vice president may serve temporarily as acting president if the president, for whatever reason, is unable to discharge the duties of the office. Like the president, the vice president must be at least 35 years old.

The U.S. Constitution prescribes only one duty for the vice president: to be the president, or presiding officer, of the U.S. Senate, and if a Senate vote ends in a tie, the vice president may vote to break the tie. The vice president has been assigned other duties by statute, and the president may assign other responsibilities. The importance of the vice president derives almost entirely from being required, at any moment, to succeed to the most powerful office in the world.

Salary and Perquisites. The vice president's salary of $186,300 is supplemented (since 1975) by annual cost-of-living increases, as determined by the president. The Secret Service guards the vice president and family. In 1974 Congress designated a Washington mansion formerly occupied by the chief of naval operations as the vice president's official residence. The vice president maintains offices in the Capitol and the Executive Office Building.

I think your forgetting about the Dad.

With that salary and living in the white house I dont think he would really have to work. I think the Vice Presidents family has their own house they live in close to the white house. It would be a huge change from living in Alaska to moving to Washington DC . Kids going to school. No hunting or fishing, shooting bear, big dumb moose etc.

What a change of lifestyle.

So the Dad can take care of the kids while Sarah does the VP job. After about a year she should figure out her hands are tied, and she wont be doing shit.

Unless something happens to McCain , God Forbid, because then we would really be fawked.

Holy shit people her kid has Down Syndrome...the most common genetic disorder in man. It's not like her kid is a fuking quadriplegic who can't move and needs to be spoon fed and spend their life in diapers. Most kids with Down lead relatively 'normal' lives, just in a different sort of way.

Busting her ass for being a working mother (regardless of what her job is) with a child with Down Syndrome is appalling. I see a lot of patients with Down syndrome and a majority of their parents work. Get a fuking clue.

Happy Hippo to answer your hypothetical situation...if working longer hours and extended trips away from home meant earning more money to be able to provide better care for my child, then I would 100% do it. Oh, wait, I guess if we had socialized medicine then they wouldn't need more money for better healthcare, right.

Everybody's case is different. It's a new modern era - a woman's place is not just in the home.

HH, while you may enjoy the company of your mother to aide you thru the newborn process.. others might not. Doesn't make it righter or wronger.

But again, we're in the new modern era here.. where it's not always the man of the house that has to be the breadwinner.

Perhaps Mr. Palin might enjoy taking care of the kids? Just because the father of your kid might be a douche, doesn't mean all fathers are.

Scott, wouldn't Palin's husband have to like shovel the driveway and cut the grass? I mean she said when they moved into the Governors mansion in Juneau she fired all the help and MCCain said he's going to free up a whole bunch of government waste.

I figure her 5 kids, Levi and Bristol, could pitch in on the grass cutting, snow shoveling, sidewalk salting chores around the White House. When their done there, they could do the Mall.

Saint, evidencing the North Carolinian educational system, comes up with the brilliant statement: that raising a downs syndrome child is relatively normal only different.

Sounds like downs syndrome is a prerequisite to get into dental school. You would think someone with a quasi medical background would understand that there are different degrees and severity of downs syndrome.

Some will never work, can't drive, operate on about a 4 year old level and require assistance with personal hygeine. Others can operate relatively closer to what most would describe as normal, with the whole range in between. Where this kid is I don't know.

Whatever, its gonna take a lot more time than a child w/o the disease.

Weasel you weasel

I am not saying that at all. I am saying that it appears to me that given Sarah the slut's family situation her statement that she is putting family first is, how can I put this, moose crap.

5 children under 19
3 year old downs baby
17 year old pregnant unmarried daughter keeping baby
2 month campaign
4 year vice presidential job with duties

= Sarah first (unless camera's around then grab nearest child and hug) welfare of children second

This one is easy to see.

......................................................

its not a disease Eddie.

Down's syndrome, or trisomy 21 is a chromosomal disorder caused by the presence of all or part of an extra 21st chromosome.

You would think someone with a quasi law background would understand that much

Just bustin chops Eddie. Got to get some sleep

why you up after midnight.

its way past your putting your jamas on.

Scott:

If you have an extra head, you have a disease. That extra 21st chromosome makes it a disease. Downs Syndrome is very similar to the China Syndrome starring Jane Fonda wherein a nuclear reactor became "diseased" and went into a melt down.

So it is a disease. I forgive you. I am going to bed but without the jamas.

Weasel dont worry you guys will win. This country will not elect a black president. Not yet anyway. Don't go away. I so totally enjoy thrashing you all over my monitor on a daily basis.
