Betting Preview for the Eastern Washington Eagles vs Kansas Jayhawks NCAA College Basketball Game on March 20 2021

Record: 16-7 Overall / 12-3 Conference

Eastern Washington will need junior center Tanner Groves to be at his absolute best if the Eagles are to shock the world in the first round. Groves has been sensational this season as a do-it-all beast for Eastern Washington, which boasts of five players averaging at least 10.0 points per game. This season, Groves is averaging 16.4 points, 8.1 rebounds, and 1.4 assists per game. He has stepped it up even more of late, as he seems to have improved his outside shot, making 36.7 percent of his attempts from behind the arc during the recent title run by Eastern Washington in the Big Sky tournament. The Eagles are among the highest-scoring teams in the nation, as they are averaging 78.0 points per game. Eastern Washington can be deadly from long range, with five players shooting at least 37.8 percent on their 3-point shots.

Eastern Washington is 8-2 against the spread in its last 10 games.

Record: 20-8 Overall / 12-6 Conference

Unlike the other blue bloods like the Duke Blue Devils and the Kentucky Wildcats, Kansas earned a March Madness berth despite looking shaky in the regular season. But a strong finish to the season had Bill Self?s team turning the heads of the Selection Committee. Kansas defeated the Oklahoma State Cowboys, Texas Tech Red Raiders, Baylor Bears, and the Oklahoma Sooners during a hot 8-1 stretch over their past nine games, heading into the NCAA National Tournament. Kansas had the best scoring defense in the Big 12, where the Jayhawks allowed just 64.7 points per game on 40.0 percent shooting from the field ? also the best defensively in the conference. Kansas is also getting a boost just in time for the first round, with David McCormack coming back after getting sidelined by COVID-19. McCormack is averaging 13.4 points and 6.1 rebounds per game this season.

Kansas is 7-2-1 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.

Betting Preview for the Cleveland State Vikings vs Houston Cougars NCAA College Basketball Game on March 19 2021

Record: 19-7 Overall / 16-4 Conference

Cleveland State booked a spot in 2021 March Madness by winning the Horizon League tournament., begging the Oakland Grizzlies in the title game, 80-69. Cleveland State will be leaning on its defense that limited foes in the AAC to just 68.0 points per game and 41.9 percent shooting from the field. The Vikings? sticky defense has resulted in a league-best average of 7.8 steals per game. Horizon League teams had a hard time getting the ball down the floor against the Vikings, who forced their conference rivals into committing 14.8 turnovers per game. Tre Gomillion personifies Cleveland State?s intensity on defense, as he won the AAC?s Defensive Player of the Year award.

Cleveland State is 3-1 against the spread in its last four games overall. The over is 7-3 in the Vikings? last 10 games.

Record: 24-3 Overall / 14-3 Conference

The Cougars lost considerable talent over and the offseason and during the season. Yet, Kelvin Sampson managed to steer his team into the Big Dance, which just goes to show everyone how good of a tactician he is, one that will be a force to reckon with in the sidelines this March. The Cougars have not lost since Feb. 18?s defeat at the hands of the Wichita State Shockers, and since then, have racked up seven wins in a row, including those over the likes of the Cincinnati Bearcats and the Memphis Tigers, twice each. Houston?s defense is regarded as among the best not just in the AAC but in the nation, as well. Houston is 16th nationally with an adjusted defensive rating of 84.4 and tops overall with an opponents? effective field goal percentage of 42.9.

Houston is 7-3 against the spread in its last 10 games overall.

Texas Southern vs Mount St. Mary?s Game Preview

Why Texas Southern Will Win
The Tigers came on over the second half of the season winning their last nine games and 14 of the last 15 after overcoming a 2-7 start. They did it with a relentless scoring style that didn?t do much from three, but attacked and kept on attacking averaging 75 points per game.
They?re amazing on the glass ? they own the offensive boards ? and they?re fantastic in transition after coming up with the defensive rebound. They play a fun, high-energy style that has no problem overcoming a slew of mistakes ? and there are a ton of them ? by going on big scoring runs.
It?s a problem for a Mount St. Mary?s team that turns the ball over a ton. Expect a whole lot of Texas Southern transition points.

Why Mount St. Mary?s Will Win

The Mountaineers struggled, they were 8-10 and going nowhere in the NEC, and then it all came together.
They won their final four games including a shocking upset over Bryant to take the NEC with a defense that picked a great time to put together one of its best stretches of the season.
They have to rebound well to win. They dominated the class over the last few games, they generate a whole lot of points on the inside, and they?re great at stopping teams from three.
However ?

What?s Going To Happen
Mount St. Mary?s can?t move with the Tigers.
The Mountaineers thrive when they can stop teams from three and then grab the rebound, and Texas Southern doesn?t care about that ? it can?t shoot from three, anyway.
It?s about a massive a contrast in styles as there?s going to be in the early round of the tournament with Texas Southern hitting fast enough to go on a few nice runs, and it?ll end up making at least five more free throws ? it?ll get to the line a whole lot more.

Texas Southern vs Mount St. Mary?s Prediction

Texas Southern 74, Mount St. Mary?s 71

Wichita State vs Drake Game Preview

Why Wichita State Will Win

It?s not like the Shockers had a clunker.
The five losses were strong teams in mostly good fights. They play a low-scoring style that relies on terrific defense, decent three point shooting, and doing enough on the boards to hold up against the bangers. It might not be the good shooting team overall, but it makes up for it by forcing a ton of mistakes and by making teams play their game.
Drake?s a wee bit of an unknown schedule-wise ? it beat Kansas State, but it didn?t do anything that amazing ? with a defense and a style that fits the Shocker system. However ?

Why Drake Will Win
The Bulldogs know how to D up.
The schedule might not have been anything great, but there weren?t any real problems except against Loyola, the star of the Missouri Valley.
There are a whole of of steals, it?s a great rebounding team, and it?s not going to beat itself. No, this isn?t quite the three point team Wichita State is, but it?s great inside and out hitting 50% from the field on a regular basis. The Shockers only hit 50% once in a win at Ole Miss.
Great on the offensive boards ? to go along with its normal 49% shooting clip ? there aren?t a slew of wasted possessions.

What?s Going To Happen
Be stunned if this is crazy one way or another. These are two controlled, measured teams that will play the exact same game against each other. They?re both going to battle on the boards, they?ll both be defensively solid, and they?ll both push back whenever down ? also be stunned if either side gets out to a massive lead.
Drake shoots better, can hang on the boards, and it?s better on the line. In a close game, all those things will matter in a terrific, hard-nosed 40 minute battle.

Appalachian State vs Norfolk State Game Preview

Why Appalachian State Will Win
Awful throughout the second half of the season ? the Mountaineers finished seventh in the Sun Belt ? they were on a run of five straight losses and six in seven, and then a crazy thing happened ?
They started winning.
It wasn?t easy, but it rumbled through their final four games including a stunning win over Texas State ? the best team in the Sun Belt ? on the was to a conference tournament title to get into the fun.
It?s a three-and-free team, bombing away from the outside ? it doesn?t make a high percentage of them, but it takes them ? and it brilliant on the free throw line. Combine that with an aggressive defense that comes up with a. whole lot of steals, and it has an interesting style that can get hot enough to be a problem if the threes start falling.
However ?

Why Norfolk State Will Win

If Appalachian State isn?t hitting from the outside, there?s a problem.
This isn?t a great shooting team overall ? it somehow won in the Sun Belt Tournament over Coastal Carolina when shooting under 30% ? and Norfolk State is solid at defending the three.
The Spartans won their final six games ? three of them over Morgan State, including the MEAC Championship ? with an offense that?s great at getting to the rim and happy to crank up the tempo.
It?s okay from the outside, but it?s at its best when forcing the action, getting fouled, and then owning the game on the line.

What?s Going To Happen
Norfolk State has enough parts to its game and style to overcome adversity if something isn?t working. Appalachian State doesn?t.
It?s really this simple ? either the Mountaineers hit a ton of threes, or they don?t. They?re 7-0 in their last 15 games when they make ten or more three pointers, and 1-7 when they don?t.
And that?s where Coppin State comes in.
The Eagles led the MEAC in three point attempts and makes, and they went 3-1 against Norfolk State hitting double-digit threes in each of the four.
It won?t be pretty, but Appalachian State will get to ten made threes.

UCLA Bruins (17-9) at Michigan State Spartans (15-12)

The Michigan State Spartans come into the conference tournament as an at-large participant after finishing with a 15-12 overall record including their opening round loss to Maryland in the Big Ten tournament. Aaron Henry comes in as MSU?s lone double-digit scorer with 15.3 PPG while also sharing the lead in rebounding with Joey Hauser with 5.7 RPG and also leading Sparty with 3.5 APG and 1.3 steals pe game as well. Hauser has 9.7 PPG with 5.7 RPG and Joshua Langford has averaged 9.6 PPG for MSU this season. As a team, Michigan State is averaging 69.5 PPG on 42.5% shooting from the field and 32.2% from three while allowing 70.7 PPG on 42.6% shooting from the field and 31.6% from three this season.

The UCLA Bruins also come in as an at large bid, finishing with a 17-9 overall record including their 83-79 OT loss to eventual conference champion Oregon State in the quarterfinals of the Pac-12 tournament. Johnny Juzang leads the Bruins in scoring with 14 PPG along with 4.1 RPG while Jaime Jaquez Jr. has 11.7 PPG with a team-high 6 RPG and 1.2 steals per game. Tyger Campbell has 10.5 PPG with a team-high 5.6 APG to lead UCLA in assists while Jules Bernard and Cody Riley each have 10+ PPG as well for UCLA this season, round out the group of double-digit scorers for the Bruins. As a team, UCLA is averaging 72.6 PPG on 46.3% shooting from the field and 37.3% from three while allowing 67.9 PPG on 43.9% shooting from the field and 34.9% from three this season.

Michigan State is 7-17 ATS in their last 24 games overall and 2-10 ATS in their last 12 games as a favorite while the under is 4-0 in their last 4 NCAA tournament games. UCLA is 3-11 ATS in their last 14 games overall and 4-10 ATS in their last 14 neutral site games while the over is 7-2 in their last 9 games as an underdog. The underdog is 4-1-1 ATS in the last 6 meetings between these two teams.

This is a hard one to call as these are two teams that you don?t associate with being in a play in game so it?s tough. However, unpopular opinion time, as much as I love Tom Izzo as a coach, I don?t think this Michigan State team deserves to be in the tournament. I understand they have wins over all of the big boys in the Big Ten this year like Michigan, Illinois and Ohio State, but looking back, the road win at Duke isn?t as impressive as first thought and there were some frustrating losses mixed in there as well. UCLA is back and as much as Mick Cronin has the ability to let his teams choke under pressure, I just think that this is a spot where the Bruins can succeed as there?s just a lot more depth and talent within UCLA?s ranks. I?ll take the point with UCLA though I?m not sure we even need it.

Betting Preview for the Maryland Terrapins vs UConn Huskies NCAA College Basketball Game on March 20 2021

Record: 16-13 Overall / 9-11 Conference

There?s nothing about the Terrapins that jumps out of their resume, but it?s worth noting here that this is a team that had wins in the regular season over the Illinois Fighting Illini and the Wisconsin Badgers. Those wins tell you just how high the ceiling of this team finished with a sub-.500 record in the Big Ten, but that?s the Big Ten we are talking about. Maryland features a couple of big guards that can play the 1. Eric Ayala and Darryl Morsell both stand 6-5 and weigh 200 pounds. Maryland has the second-biggest set of point guards, so expect the Terps to use that size advantage in the backcourt to bully UConn?s defenders. Ayala (14.9 PPG) and Aaron Wiggins (14.0) are the top options on offense for the Terps, who are averaging 68.8 points per contest.

The under is 5-1 in Maryland?s last six games overall.

Record: 15-7 Overall / 11-6 Conference

If you need to know just one thing about the Huskies, it?s got to be James Bouknight. UConn?s star shooting guard is arguably the best player in the Big East this season. He is averaging 19.0 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. UConn is hoping that Bouknight will be able to carry the team against Maryland, but the Huskies are more than just about him. UConn can play tremendous defense. The Huskies have the best defensive efficiency among Big East teams this season, which can be largely credited to their offensive rebounding. UConn finished the regular season 10th in the nation with 11.4 offensive rebounds per game and sixth in offensive rebounding percentage (36%).

UConn is 4-1 against the spread in its last five games overall.

Betting Preview for the Iona Gaels vs Alabama Crimson Tide NCAA College Basketball Game on March 20 2021

Record: 12-5 Overall / 6-3 Conference

Say what you want to say about Rick Pitino, but the man can really coach, especially at a college level. Pitino has proven that once again by steering Iona into the March Madness via an automatic-bid, with the Gaels winning the Metro Atlantic Conference tournament. Iona paced its conference in offensive efficiency with 104.4 points per 100 possessions. The Gaels can get hot from deep, which they will look to establish early against Alabama. Iona shot 37.2 percent on their threes in conference play, while allowing MAAC rivals to shoot just 28.3 percent from downtown. Isaiah Ross is Iona?s go-to-guy, as he is scoring 18.4 points with 2.5 threes per game, so far this season.

Iona is 4-0-1 against the spread in its last five games overall.

Record: 24-6 Overall / 16-2 Conference

Alabama is slowly catching up to the dominance of its football team in the SEC, as the Crimson Tide just won the league?s tournament by beating the LSU Tigers in the finals. Alabama will not be short in artillery if the Crimson Tide decide to go in a shootout with the Gaels. Alabama averaged 81.9 points per game in conference play and shot 11.4 threes per contest. The Crimson Tide?s outside shooting is simply on a different level. They are fourth in the nation with 10.7 threes per game on 35.1 percent shooting. Alabama?s defense limits opponents to below 1.0 point per efficiency and lets teams shoot just 28.8 percent from deep against it. The Crimson Tide?s top-10 tempo should rattle Iona, which will have to contend with Alabama?s combination of speed and rebounding mastery.

Alabama is 4-1 against the spread in its last five games overall.

Betting Preview for the Wisconsin Badgers vs North Carolina Tar Heels NCAA College Basketball Game on March 19 2021

Record: 17-12 Overall / 10-10 Conference

Wisconsin doesn?t have much momentum going into the Big Dance, as the Badgers have lost six of their last eight games, but those losses were against some of the best in the nation like the Michigan Wolverines and the Iowa Hawkeyes. In a sense, Wisconsin has been sharpened by the tough competition in the Big Ten to the point that facing a team like North Carolina will not intimidate this Badgers unit that likes to slow down the game like it?s played on mud. Wisconsin is 326th in the nation in adjusted tempo, with only 64.9 possessions per 40 minutes. Wisconsin opponents are averaging just 64.3 points in large part because of that style of play that could frustrate the Tar Heels, who are accustomed to a much faster pace.

The under is 6-4 in Wisconsin?s last 10 games, but the over is 4-1 in the Badgers? last seven.

Record: 18-10 Overall / 10-6 Conference
