Does it have anything to do with the books I recommended?

I purchased one of your books, but have yet to read it. I tend to read more early in the year, so will be getting to it soon.

I've actually done this for a few months at a time over the past few years for health purposes. I also cut our dairy, except for when I go out to dinner. My bad cholesterol trends extremely high. Basically, I am eating fatty fish 2-4 times weekly, plus daily portions of legumes, veggies, oatmeal, fruit, supplemented by flax seeds, fish oil(pharm grade), flash frozen wheat grass juice.

Sunday I had a salmon burger from whole foods. Pretty tasty:toast: I already have some paella pics to post, so next time I have one of the salmon burgers, I'll take some shots. I've ben too lazy to open an account with one of the these photo sites. Is there one that you recommend?

Broadway 5050, San Antonio. The excellent "El Jeffe" burger--their signature rectangular burger with blue cheese and pico de gallo. All the burgers on menu are named after moments from "from Pulp Fiction".

The meat was of the greasy "juicy" variety, they sure didn't squeeze and press down on the patty while cooking on the grill! Bun was nicely toasted but the blue cheese was too much, had to scrape off a bit to keep it from overpowering the meat flavor. Tater tots were good!

Macho Tostada Burger!!

Macho Tostada Burger!!

a2d0vqs.jpg

The famous Macho Tostada Burger at Chris Madrid's, San Antonio, Texas. Meat is regular (1/3rd pound) or "Macho" (1/2 pound). As you can see, the seasoned meat patty is bigger than the bun and sticks out all around the bun edge with it's cheddar cheese. Gotta like that! And the bun was perfect example of the soft pillow variety, warmed with grease that glistened and caused camera problems with the reflection.

a dissection photo of the eating delight displays the re-fried beans and nice crunch corn nacho chips that make up this burger.

for those don't know, Tostadas are a sort of flat tacos made by layering first refried beans (then other stuff on that) on top of a fried, crunchy and flat corn tortilla.

The Tostada Burger at Chris Madrid's (established 1977) is probably the most famous of the various "bean burgers" you find around the city....update 2018 - there was a fire at the place last year, it re-opened recently. Burgers are up to snuff like days of old, but locals complain the great fries are no more...

I never think to take my own pic but I'll try from now on.

I had this burger from Culvers last night for my night cap. It looked exactly like this and the taste was heaven :toast:

"Consumer Reports" surveyed 28,000 subscribers on "the best- and worst-tasting burgers around the U.S", published the results a few months ago.

The top two
(In-N-Out and Five Guys) came out in virtual tie for 1st. The McDonald's tested was the plain basic burger. No doubt the Quarter Pounder or Big Mac would have scored somewhat higher.

1. In-N-Out Burger
2. Five Guys Burgers and Fries
3. Fuddruckers
4. Burgerville
5. Back Yard Burgers
6. Culver's Frozen Custard
7. Whataburger
8. Hardee's
9. Carl's Jr.
10. Checkers Drive-In
11. White Castle
12. Wendy's
13. Sonic Drive-In
14. A&W Restaurant
15. Krystal
16. Burger King
17. Jack in the Box
18. McDonald's

Went to Epic Burger for the first time today. Only two locations (both here in Chicago), but I believe it is likely the best "fast food" burger I have ever had:

Boozie Burger, at Boozie's Bar and Grill, in Davenport, Iowa!

nzUQS5t.jpg

The Boozie Burger has Iowa ground beef--includes three cheeses and bacon and Boozie's original special smoky sauce. Along with pickles, tomato, onion, and mayo. They bottle and sell the sauce too. Just wish the meat patty was bigger. Shoulda ordered double. Sauce is good, but my favorite sauce is still Burgerville's.

at Wild Willy's (Rochester, New Hampshire) I recently ate "The Outlaw" for lunch: ground Porterhouse steak and Pineland Farms Cheddar cheese. I had them add grilled mushrooms. Meat is cooked medium, unless you request different--that's they way it should be! Real good!

Fries real fine too...Wild Willy's has 6 outlets in this part of New Hampshire, Maine and Mass.

My first pescatarian burger!

My first pescatarian burger!

Malibu Seafood's Ahi tuna burger is made up of ground up sashimi grade tuna with their own special blend of spices mixed in. Tasty with nice grill marks! But not as tasty as a nice slab of Ahi tuna steak. $9.95, fries included.

Nice view of PCH and ocean from patio seating! It was an early dinner for me in Malibu, California, tonight...

next time I'll try the Squid Steak burger...

the "El Caliente" burger (pepper jack cheese, avocado, chipotle sauce, lettuce, tomato, red onion, jalape?o) from the fancy "LBS: A Burger Joint" at Red Rock Station Casino also comes with excellent hand-cut fries, sprinkled with herb seasoning, and served with a terrific fry dipping sauce. Damn good this! And half off at happy hour!

[update Jan, 2018 - this place unfortunately closed in 2014. I've not found fry dipping sauce anywhere as good as LBS had!]
