Westwood is the new Monty. :0corn

Thank you Goose for beating Fisher. I couldnt have afforded to go 0 - 3. Especially with Sned up like 5 with 10 to go and to lose by 2. Then Kelly to lose by 1 in the 3 ball, then beat Wagner the next 2 rounds

A 3-putt from 70 feet is a choke? Especially when he thought he would need a birdie to get into a playoff!(he was stillone behind Watson at that stage) And immediately prior he played an amazing bunker shot after being unlucky to get into the bunker in the first place!!

A little harsh I would suggest. Still, it wouldnt be the same if at least one person from the peanut gallery didnt accuse a player of choking.

The 3 putt might and i repeat might not have been a choke, but bogeying 3 out of the last 4 and 4 out of the last 9 coming in, WAS A CHOKE
Going 12 ,12, 10 and then hitting 4 fairways in the final round is a choke.. especially when the weather was calm
Hitting 10 greens, when you were leading the field all week in greens, is a choke.
Only having 1 3 putt all week, and that being on the 72nd hole could easily be looked at as a choke.
Only making 5 bogeys the first 3 rounds, then making 5 the final round.. could be looked as a choke.

As I said, at least one person from the peanut gallery, but perhaps more.

If he had hit 4 fairways in the first round and then 12,12 and 10, did he choke in the first round? Or perhaps it is just part of natural variation of performence. Did his 10 greens in the last round still rank him above the average? Perhaps, I could care less but frankly anyone with half a brain (or less it would seem) can put up figures to support some half baked proposition.

The fact is he shot 71 in the last round compared to 70 the previous 2 days. Hardly a choke on any scale and he was a touch unlucky to find the bunker on the last and was desparately unlucky to have shaved the edge for eagle on 17.

"Only having 1 3 putt all week, and that being on the 72nd hole could easily be looked at as a choke"

Only by someone completely ignorant of the situation he was in.

The older choker tag.......always a favourite of the herd.

I have never developed a tear watching golf, but watching Watson nearly pull off the greatest win in the history of golf brought a tear. Poor guy came so DAMN close and at 59, he'll never have another shot.

You're looking at the whole round as not choking, yes he shot a very very respectable score. But the fact remains when he see's his name on top of the leaderboard nearing the end of tournaments, he crumbles, which is a choke. He has done this over and over and over the past 3 years, which is why he has not won a tournament in ages. Two weeks ago he had every chance to win the tournament, then on the playoff hole he proceeded to dunk his approach into the water.

there you go pal, pull that pitching wedge out of your rear end sheesh, is he your cousin or something? :mj07: :toast: :toast:

You're looking at the whole round as not choking,...blah blah blah

You were looking at the putt in isolation. He was a shot down and thought he needed to hole it, so he couldnt leave it short (not sure you are aware, but putts that are short dont often drop).

Man are you serious? Let me go back and paste exactly what I wrote because you must be confused..... I stated "Westwood chokes again down the stretch, he isn't gonna sleep well missing that playoff after that 3 putt". Now where exactly in there was I putting 1 putt in 'isolation' there. I was stating he got tight and choked down the stretch. Look at his last 5 holes. If I was gonna put anything in isolation i'd go back to the 72nd hole at Torrey Pines when he couldn't birdie the easiest hole not to mention a Par 5 for a playoff.

Yes, I am but a humble, garden variety gambler without any experience of golf or deep insight in statistical analysis. Thankfully we have the wordly and sagely knowledge of your good self and others on here to guide me towards financial freedom.

Onto next week fellas..

I guess Joz and I are wrong, Westwood, didn't choke, nor did he choke in the US Open last year, or any other big event he has ever played in, when he got near the lead.
