Move over, hot dogs and deep dish: Chicago is beginning to enjoy a new reputation as home to some of the nation's most delectable doughnuts.
In a new ranking from The Daily Meal, the classic, plain glazed donut at Chicago's Doughnut Vault took top honors for being "surprisingly light and fresh" with a "simple, sugary glaze should be all you need to change your opinion of cake donuts forever."
Chicago was well represented in the list of 25 donuts, earning more nods than any other city as Do-Rite's chocolate glazed donut (13th), Dat Donuts' plain glazed donut (16th) and Dinkel's Bakery's chocolate cake donut (24th) also made the cut.
No other city earned more than two donuts on the list.
Rounding out the top three nationwide were Round Rock Doughnuts' plain glazed donut in Round Rock, Tex., and Dough's lemon poppy donut in Brooklyn.

The Doughnut Vault, 401 N. Franklin St. in the city's River North neighborhood, was also recently named among Forbes Travel Guide's picks for Chicago's best doughnut shops and has previously earned top accolades from Food + Wine and Thrillist -- which explains why they are constantly selling out of their signature product.

Do-rite's maple bacon donut should be on the list. What a limited view that you can have when you're life experience is behind a computer screen.
However, Peter Neuhaus, a research scientist and member of the Florida Institute for Human and Machine Cognition team, said that at the close of the current challenge next year, the vision of having a robot work in a disaster area will be much closer.
The event includes teams from NASA's Jet Propulsion Labs, MIT, Carnegie Mellon University, Drexel University and Virginia Tech. They are charged with having their robot complete eight different tasks.
The robots will have 30 minutes to complete each task in the challenge. They include climbing a ladder, removing debris, opening and walking through doors, cutting a hole into a wall, turning valves and driving a car.
The tasks are geared to test the robot's mobility, dexterity, perception, and operator control mechanisms.
"The robots are not at the level of task autonomy we would like to see," said Pratt. "We expect their human operators will play a big role. Ultimately, the robot will need to recognize its environment and plan its moves to accomplish its tasks."
The point of the challenge is to push robotics technology to become more autonomous, deciding themselves how best to move around obstacles and how to get to where they need to be.
"It's a robot approximating human capabilities," said Connor. "This is the most ambitious challenge to get all of the systems integrated into a robot acting outdoors. Each individual piece, such as the steering controller or obstacle avoidance, has been demonstrated. But taking that obstacle detection capability into a humanoid robot that is actually steering a car? That's new."

Doughnut Vault is good but not worth the price or wait. You are better off just going to one of the Glazed and Infused stores.

Looks like they still do-rites maple bacon doughnut. Is there no honor in the doughnut business anymore?
Cell phones, automobiles, bbq - pick an industry and there are plenty of people/companies that were the first that aren't necessarily the best.
