BEST BET
PHOENIX over *L.A. LAKERS by 9

Both teams are ready and eager to resume a heated rivalry that has built up to a steady
boil over the past few seasons. Kobe and his Lakers have had their way with Phoenix this
season ? in L.A. and Arizona ? which should give the Suns plenty of motivation going into
the second game of tonight?s TNT doubleheader. Phoenix has been in L.A. since Monday,
playing both Clippers and Lakers in a three-day span, and that type of stability will help
them bring their ?A? game tonight. PHOENIX 122-113

BEST BET
*LOUISVILLE over MARQUETTE by 15

As if you didn?t know that Rick Pitino teams tend to develop favorably as seasons wear on!
Slaughter of Kentucky was indeed the buy signal, followed up by dismemberment of West
Virginia. Off roll of the Irish, Golden Eagles are fresh from some Sweeney Todd action of
their own, but catching Dame away from Joyce is one thing, and this figures to flow along
the same vein. LOUISVILLE, 81-66

BEST BET
*STANFORD over ARIZONA by 18

Wildcat wunderkind Jerryd Bayless was allllllmost ready for ASU a little more than a week
ago, but Zona braintrust exercised prudent patience, and waited for Saturday date in
Houston, at which point Bayless was half-past ready, and went off for ?six, the hard way?
against the Coogs, powering a handy Cat win. Even with five days off, Arizona may not quite
be over themselves after that gallop, and while ever-dangerous, they?re going to be outsized
at Maples. STANFORD, 85-67.

***BEST BET
Arizona State over California* by 5

Smokin? Herb?s kids were off last weekend and might have watched Cal flounder
around and win at Oregon State, a game that probably dulled whatever sharpness the
Bears were trying to hone. Defending against Beaver-slop is easier to do than defending
against Smokin? Herb?s system, as was proven when Cal could only sneak past the
Sun Devils by 4 points and 1 point when the Herbivores were merely being seeded in
pods from which they are now beginning to sprout. ARIZONA STATE, 70-65

Marc Lawrence

Marquette Warriors at Louisville Cardinals
Thursday, January 17th, 7:30 PM ET

The Warriors are true road warriors as evidenced by their 30-14-1 ATS mark as conference road dogs when facing a .680 or better opponent. They're also 4-0 ATS against foes off a SUATS win this season. Look for more of the same from Dominic James and the Warriors this evening. Good luck - Marc Lawrence

Play on: Marquette

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Karl Garrett

Arizona (+5) at STANFORD

Tonight I like the points with Arizona at Stanford. Just can't trust the Cardinal laying points this season, as they are 9-1 straight up at home, but just 4-5 against the spread in those lined home games.

Into town comes an Arizona team that is off a confidence-boosting romp at Houston as the one point underdog, and the Wildcats do bring a 5-game series winning streak into this contest with covers in 3 of the last 4.

The G-Man can easily see Stanford clawing out the win in this spot, but I am not so sure the Cardinal is going to put this Wildcats team away like the linesmakers think they should.

With Arizona owning the last pair of wins - outright - in games played on Stanford hardwood, I will look for any victory the Tree can muster to come by a slim margin.

G-Man says to take the points in Palo Alto this evening.

2♦ ARIZONA

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Bobby Maxwell

Vanderbilt (+10) at TENNESSEE

A pair of natural rivals square off for the first time this season when Vandy heads to Tennessee to take on the Vols. With both teams off to incredible starts, we're going to play the Commodores in this one to hang with Tennessee. It's just way too many points to pass up in a rivalry between two good teams.

Vanderbilt suffered its first loss of the season Saturday, falling in Kentucky 79-73 in OT as one-point underdogs. But it had been a perfect season up to then and they were able to open the SEC with an 80-73 win over South Carolina, just missing the cash as 8 1/2-point favorites.

Tennessee has taken three of the last four meetings with Vandy after the Commodores won three straight in 2004 and 2005. Vanderbilt hasn't been on the road much this season but they are 4-1 ATS on the highway and beat Depaul 91-85 as four-point chalk in mid-December.

The Vols haven't played many meaningful games at home this season, as they are just 4-1 ATS with the three other home games being non-lined games - meaning opponents not worthy of putting out a line.

I like the situation we're in here with Vandy coming of a loss, so you know they're angry, and playing a rival and getting this many points. Shan Foster and Alex Gordon are players that just didn't shoot well against Kentucky. Grab the points and play Vandy to hang close in this one.

(501) CLE Cavaliers
(502) SAN Spurs

Take "(501) CLE Cavaliers"

Tonight's Cavs-Spurs game is definitely big for Cleveland. It's their first meeting with San Antone since last season's title series, and they're finally playing well. I see this as a very important contest for the Cavaliers, and I think they're the right side tonight catching the substantial points.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Jim Feist

(503) UTH Jazz
(504) DEN Nuggets

Take "(504) DEN Nuggets"

A couple of power offensive teams meet in Denver. Utah is No. 1 in the NBA in shooting at 49% from the field. Denver is fourth in the league in points scored (106 ppg) while Utah is fifth (105 ppg). Utah doesn't play much defense on the road, allowing 105 ppg, which is why they are 12-7 over the total away from home. The last four times these teams have met the "over" is 3-1. Play the Jazz/Nuggets over the total!

Tonight we expect the Suns to break into the win column in the season series against the upstart Lakers. No one thought LA would be this good this year, including Kobe "Trade Me" Bryant, but the Lakers are a game ahead of the Suns in the Pacific standings, and they have won and covered both meetings with Phoenix this season after losing in the playoffs to the Suns last April.
The Lakers struggled to get by Seattle the other night in overtime, and even though that was win #7 in a row, we get the feeling the loss of Andrew Bynum is going to be felt tonight against the Suns.
Bynum went nuts in LA's Christmas Day win at home over Phoenix, scoring 28 in the 122-115 win. We just don't see where the Lakers are going to turn to replace that kind of production this evening, and beyond for that matter?
Look for Phoenix to take control of this one, and snap the Lakers winning streak at 7 straight.
Play on the Suns.

2 STAR: (540) MINNESOTA (+1.5) over Indiana
(Risking $220 to win $200)
8:00PM Central Time

Indiana is off to a great start this season, but you have to love the job that Tubby Smith is doing with the Gophers. Minnesota is undefeated at home this year and the home crowd will be fired up for this one. Indiana is just 1-5 against the spread in their last five trips to Minnesota and they are only 2-10 against the spread in their last tweleve conference games. The underdog is also 7-2 against the spread in the last nine meetings. I'll take the points with the live home dog!

1 STAR: (546) DENVER (-3) over Arkansas State
(Risking $110 to win $100)
8:30PM Central Time

This one is pretty simple. You have a Denver team that plays well at home against an Arkansas State team that is horrible on the road. The home team has won five straight in this series and eight out of the last ten and Denver is 7-3 against the spread in the last ten meetings. I'll lay the small number here!

WEDNESDAY'S RESULTS - We were 2-0 on Thursday. A $100 player won $700. A nice sweep of the board as Toledo took care of Central Michigan again and Iowa State pulled off the upset against Missouri!

IOWA STATE (+5.5) WON +$500
TOLEDO (-2) WON +$200

NBA

2 STAR: (505) PHOENIX (-2) over LA Lakers
(Risking $220 to win $200)
9:35PM Central Time

Okay the team with the best record in the Western Conference is a home underdog against a Phoenix team that they have already beaten twice this season? I think the public will be all over the Lakers, but I do think Phoenix is the play here. The lose of Bynum is going to hurt against the Suns. Lay the points!

WEDNESDAY'S RESULTS - We were 0-1 on Wednesday. A $100 player lost $110. New Jersey got off to a great start and looked like they were going to blow the Knicks out of the building. I don't know what the hell happened after that because they had no answer for Crawford and Randolph

San Antonio plays incredibly good at home. The Spurs are19-3 at the AT&T Center, holding opponents to an average 92 points per game, 89.5 points at home. Go with the Spurs in their house.
