Personally, the way Cain took Kongo down, I don't think Mir will have that problem either.

I still underrate his performance against Kongo because it wasn't that impressive. He could KO the next 10 guys he faces...his performance against Kongo won't change.

i think kongo is a live doggie here....if he realizes that he NEVER(not even once) follows mir to the mat......

if they stay on their feet(as good as mir`s stand-up was vs nogueira)kongo still has him outgunned....and by a wide margin,imo...hands and kicks...

he can beat mir down in a stand-up war of attrition....

i don`t recall mir being some great takedown artist like velasquez....

i tell ya though....you just have to shake your head at how stupidly some of these mma fighters gameplan for fights...kongo will probably willingly go to the mat....

his corner should tell him,"no matter what happens, get the hell off the mat"....

and of course,he won`t listen...

goes back to what i was saying....kongo,according to fight finder, has around a 3" height advantage.....he`s a physical beast....probably as physically strong a heavy this isde of lesnar/carwin...

he was a kickboxer...so,if his "people" have a collective brain between them, they spend their entire training camp working on the sprawl....and keeping distance....unless they slept through the velasquez disaster...

but of course,they won`t......

the cognitive dissonance of some in mma is downright stultifying...that`s where ,imo, mma and boxing part company.....

you have guys in mma that specialize in one particular aspect...but few that really gameplan effectively.....

i think alot of gameplanning goes to their backgrounds, comfort level in certain areas, and most importantly, coaching...

however, you can coach all you want, but if the guy isn't listening...what goods it do? not like team sports where you can sub him out lol

Wish I could do that with Sherk vs Edgar :142smilie

good example....chael sonnen is another stupid fighter...kampmann.....

joe stevenson standing with sanchez....couture thinks he`s a boxer....

they should take a cue from guida...he`s a ridiculously limited, one dimensional fighter...yet he stays around and picks off some top guys because he knows what his bread and butter is.... and goes to it,particularly when things go south...

Can't believe anyone compares Cains threat to Kongo as the same as Mir. I wouldn't touch Mir in this one. Should be a good one. I don't see Mir with the skills if in trouble, to get the easy take down. Mir is more crafty but i see him having a hard time taking down Kongo without getting hammered in the face. I'll pass.

As for Penn/Sanchez. Anytime i see a guy who tries to overwelm a guy who can actually fight, the guy who can fight makes an example out of him. As Roach says BJ is the closest thing to a pro boxer there is in MMA. Bj knows how to slide to the side and with his hands Sanchez tries that shit he did with Guida this will be a very quick knockout. But here we go again. Did BJ train? This looks like another pass or spending a lot of time on BJ Penn .com. to see what BJ is up to.
Who is this guy Palhras is fighting? Has a cute little name. Looks like he knows how to fight and this is gonna be a JU jit clinic with these two. Got to see some of Johnny Hendricks opponent. Was very impressed with Hendricks. Seems like he has the whole package.

I actually believe Diego at +265 has a very good chance.

He has stamina for day's and will force BJ to work.

I have never seen him hurt.

He is the only guy at 155 that I think is capable of surviving on the ground with BJ.
His ADCC match with a prime Marcelo Garcia was a real eye opener for me. He gave Marcelo a really good go for 10 minutes.

I think this will be a cracking fight as unlike Kenflo, Diego "The Nutcase" Sanchez will go balls to the wall and leave it all in the cage.

and as opposed to kenflo,he`s big at the weight....

remember that sanchez blew through florian when they fought...it was more one-sided than penn/florian.....

he`s a threat,imo....i was sitting back hoping the odds would go up even farther...

btw...i think condit`s recent struggles in the ufc give him incredible value vs short/one dimensional paul daley at ufc 108........

-115?....love that line...condit`s never been k.o.`ed and i doubt that daley can submit or out-wrestle him....

i`d be shocked if condit had a kampmann`esqe brainfart and just stood in front of daley....

think daley`s recent fight with nick thompson...i see something similar unless condit can sub him......

Wee, the only problem that I see with this line of thinking is that I don't think Diego can get BJ to the ground. I'm not a big BJ fan but I think he will destroy Diego standing. Hopefully I'm wrong because I wouldn't mind seeing BJ lose but I haven't been impressed with Diego enough at 155. IMO he's lost too much of his strength.

Just looking at the interview with BJ and Sanchez i see a very focused BJ. LOOks like Sanchez talked some shit and BJ was ready to pounce on him in the interview. when Sanchez didn't want to respond u could see a very irratated BJ. If i bet im all over BJ. Lines got to come down tho. Give me something under two to one and im in. Maybe up to 225 but hat is about it.

I'm not saying Deigo should try and take it to the ground as BJ is still a machine on the ground.

Don't get me wrong. I believe BJ is the better fighter everywhere BUT I can see a scenario playing out in a 5 rounder.

I have never seen Diego hurt and although BJ will outstrike him at the start, Diego will not allow BJ to fight at a comfortable pace as Kenny and Sherk did.

Deigo will throw knees, kicks, wrestle and scramble at a high pace.

BJ will start to feel the pace after a couple of rounds and his striking will not be as slick.

Diego starts to take over in the later rounds.

If this was a 3 rounder, I would say BJ but I think 5 rounds hurts him in this fight.
I don't think BJ's stamina has improved, I just don't think it has been tested and Diego IS going to test it.

I LOVE this line!!!

It will be my first big bet of 2010.

Kampmann did so well against Condit because he is also very good on the ground and then he tosses it all out the window against Daley.

I think Condit smokes Daley, big time :toast:

Ummm...Kenny tried to wear BJ down by leaning on him and clinching up with him the entire time. It didn't work.

I don't care about either fighters cardio in this fight because, IMO, it doesn't go that far.

Diego, IMO, has never fought strategicly the most smart. He's just been more talented, and gotten through it. Diego fights to prove a point. BJ fights to win. Diego hasn't really fought anyone besides Koscheck and Fitch, and he lost both. He barely beat Guida, and his fight against Stevenson was far from impressive. TBQH...I really don't even know why the hell he's getting a title shot.

I think BJ wins via some sort of stoppage.

Ummm...If Diego tried this same strategy, I doubt it would work either.

That's why I believe he will try to wear out BJ using different methods than leaning on him.

Maybe BJ wins quick and easy but I don't think so.
