Here are my thoughts:
BJ Penn-Frankie Edgar was a close fight.
I had a huge bet on Penn-Joe Warren-Phil Davis
and another one on Penn-Hughes-Davis
I thought BJ took rounds 1 and 2.
I thought Edgar took 3 and 5.
4 was really close but I edged it to Penn.
Going to the cards, I thought Edgar would get it.
The decision was fair, but all 5 rounds to Edgar is way off.
The right guy won the fight - people like me who saw "no plausible path to victory" for Frankie were, clearly, dead wrong.
He mixed up his striking beautifully. His cardio was phenomenal and he fought a very smart fight. The takedown he got in rnd 5 astonished me. I would have bet a lot of money Frankie couldn't get BJ down.
I do think though, that a rematch would go quite differently. BJ was clearly gassed after a few rounds and something may have been up with his knee.
This was a painful loss for me, but I think the score of 3 to 2 either way is fair. It's hard for me to see all 5 rounds for Edgar. That's a bit nuts.
