Undecided on the main event

Evans:

For: Quicker, better striker, probably better MMA takedowns, more big fight experience - 7 UFC main events to Davis's 1

Against: Long layoff, changed camps - moved to a inferior camp, could be thinking of Jones and overlooking Davis, may fade in the second half of the fight

Davis:

For: Bigger, stronger, better wrestler, probably better submissions, 4 inch reach advantage, home advantage

Against: Poor striking, best win against 35 year old lil nog

Evans is the one guy who has cost me tons of money. I just can't get a good read on him. He won't use his wrestling, he doesn't throw and high number of strikes and just doesn't do a lot to impress me. His big wins have mainly come from one strike KOs and I don't like betting on someone to keep doing that.

Davis has piss poor striking but I don't think he will be able to get Evans down. I could be wrong there and if I am it's his fight to lose.

This card could have some boring fights but fights that mean a lot based on the outcome but it also should have some real quality ones. IMO this is one of the best "looking" cards in a long time. I can't wait to see Belfort and Akiyama. I also want to see how Hendricks progresses with his striking.

it`s very strange.....prior to the lil nog bout, phil davis was thought of as the only guy capable of potentially beating jones....

after beating nog in a snoozer,he`s pretty much been forgotten....

i`ll wait for the odds to move and take a chance that the judges won`t reward evans for what they penalize every other fighter for(running like a thief)....not controlling the octagon......

I wonder with the reach advantage and threat of take downs will Davis be able to out point Evans by using a jab. IMO that would be my game plan. Basically take GSPs plan vs Kos and go with it. I know he doesn't have the hands of GSP but a jab is something he should be able to do in this fight.

This card sucked when it started out but has shaped into a nice one. Any card with Rory Macdonald on it is a winner for me. I absolutely love watching this kid fight. Kid has everything but a lot of experience. Can't see how Evans can possible lose but want to see the weigh ins first. To lazy to run over to Sherdog to see how much bigger Davis is if anything. Belfort should kill Akiyama but who knows with Vitor. Aki does have a solid chin. Can't believe Georgie Rivera is on the main card. So overrated.

what i was thinking was how ortiz basically controlled evans with his wrestling.....he only got the draw because of a point deduction...

as you said(spot on,btw)evans` wrestling hasn`t really translated into an mma weapon like some other wrestlers(unless he`s fighting a striker like thiago silva)...he`s a smallish 205...and that may be why.....

i think that davis has many more tools than ortiz does....he`s the better athlete(may well be the best pure athlete evans has faced)....he`s long.....he has very serviceable submissions....and effective kicks(very long legs)....

we`ll have to see how evans gets inside to score...but i`m guessing that davis is the better grappler of the two....maybe by a good bit...

it`s the experience/mental aspects where evans probably has an edge(ala tito/bader)...that`s the thing that worries me...but i believe that davis may have a bit of a homecourt advantage...i`m not sure whether davis has lost a round in the ufc yet...

we`ll see...lots of evans love out there...

btw...i like the card...how the hell did hendricks/pierce get bumped off the main card by perenial gatekeepers sakara/rivera?....

head scratcher...:mj03:

GW, I think the one BIG advantage Evans has and always has is his speed. I think he's quicker than most other LHWs. I guess the question is will he be in this one. I personally think he can out box Davis is Davis tries to get pretty with him. Davis' hands don't impress me at all but with his length he could be ok. I don't think if he gets Evans down he can keep him there. Not sure how Evans wins this one unless Davis tries to just have a boxing match with him. Maybe the speed of Evans will help him get some cheap take downs and points. I haven't been impressed with Davis but he has potential and this is a good test for him and there's just not much to lose for him.

I'm ready to see if Rory has advanced much. The kid has electric written all over him. Just depends on if he "gets it" in time to make a long run of it.
