some other differences from the cage and ring.....

-When fighting in the ring you can get "stood up" when you "fall out" of the ring. It can actually give a fighter a tiny breather and in some cases actually turn the tide of the fight. Cro Crop himself said this was a huge difference from the cage and the ring. No "breathers" in the octagon...I have never seen a guy "fall out" of the octagon before:142smilie

-Another aspect is in the octagon it is more difficult to "corner a guy off". Meaning if your in a ring you can cut a guy off (he trys to run away) much easier then in the octagon:SIB

Yes it may not be a HUGE difference fighting in the ring as opposed to the octagon, but I assure you of this, Rau will have a little bit of a wake up call when he steps into the octagon.

I've never seen anyone fall out of the UFC octagon, but Tank Abott almost threw Cal Worsham over the top :142smilie . I have however seen non-UFC events (for example, Strikeforce: Bobby Soutworth vs. James Irvin) where the cage door was not closed properly and both guys blew through the door on a takedown.

Rua will certainly require some adjustment, but he has faught in a cage before although the flooring wasn't fitted properly and you could see it bunch up, it was rediculous. It was several years ago at an IFC tournament, which interestingly enough Forrest participated in. Rua lost to Sobral by sub and Forrest got koed by Jeremy Horn with a head kick. Sobral beat Jeremy in the final.

I think Chuck is a bad match up for Keith. Keith is a come forward kickboxer, whereas Chuck is a counterpuncher. Also, in his UFC career Keith has had bad defense and been knocked down by Rashad, Stephan, Wilson and Houston. Add onto that Chuck koing 9 of his last 12 opponents and it looks bad. Moreover, Keith has only one punching ko in the UFC, that being against Forrest, despite hitting quite a few of his opponents liberally. And Chuck despite also having bad defense has only been knocked down by one guy in the last 6 or so years, that being Quinton.

Keith does have good leg kicks, but Chuck, despite taking many lately appears unfazed by them. On the other hand Chuck also has good leg kicks and although he doesn't throw them often anymore, he would hurt Keith bad if he did as evidenced by Keith's fight with Wilson.

I think a lot of people are inappropriately letting Chuck's loss to Quinton color their view of this fight. I didn?t think Quinton would beat Chuck so quickly, but he?s a bad match up for him nonetheless. Chuck's a good outside puncher and does what he can to keep his opponent outside. Quinton is a good outside puncher who does nothing to keep his opponent on the outside. Chuck is durable and has horrible defense. Quinton is durable and has good defense and it is all the better if the punch is coming from the outside.

With these fights anymore i just can't lay this high juice with guys that can punch. I think im just gonna sit this card out. You are probably right about Chuck.

I'm usually very tentative with MMA matches, but I really like Rua and Machida....

Griffin isnt anything special, and Rua might well be the best 205 fighter in the world.

I frankly cannot see him losing, Griffin is not a big puncher, Rua has really improved in grappling and with his crazy workrate he can hardly lose a dec either.

Machida is an unbeaten fighter and a great ring general, he is well versed in grappling and wrestling and his standup is clearly superior to Nakamura's.
Nak is a small 205er and everytime he really stepped up he lost, he wont be the judges favorite in America either.....

:)

Good Luck!!!

Sponge, I can't believe you've never seen Shogun fight. Get ready because it's a different style and very crowd pleasing. I believe without a doubt that he's the number 1 205er. If you get a chance look for his fight vs Rampage. It was total destruction. Rampage said that Shogun was by far the strongest fighter he's ever faced. I'm very anxious to see his weigh ins, he's looked a little on the heavy side latley but that could just be for strength gaining purposes.

Lay, sometimes i am afraid to mention a fighter because you come in and embarass me with your experience. :mj07: I didn't really watch much Pride but i have seen a lot of the shows with Trigg and Glazer. I might have saw one of his fights but i don't remember. By the way do you have a good site that shows a fighters fight results? The ufc one i have only shows UFC fights. I was big with mma in the beginning but then i faded away for other reasons. I got about a good solid year in now. I also think i remember the time Tank almost threw a guy out of the cage. (i think the other guy mention this) Been taping a lot of Tapout episodes. I like the show. Tough to get use to those goofy fukers but i think im passed that now. You know what i don't know why but for some reason i think Forrest Griffen is gay. I don't know what it is but i just have that suspicion.

Sponge, you can use sherdog.com and then click on stats on the top and to the right of that page. You can type in fighters names and it will pull them up. It pulls almost all of their mma fights no matter what org it was in. I have a site I go to that I can watch past fights. You can search by fighters names and it has almost all the pride and ufc fights in it. I'll email it to you if you want but I won't post it here because I don't want to take a chance of losing it because the word spreads too much.

Where the hell is GW? He usually has something to say but as much lately.

Sure send it to me. Do you still have my email address? I think i gave it to you once. By the way here is this guys picks for tomorrow night and remember they are just picks. I guess i just post this so we see others opinions. OH weasal i think he went back to church after taking numerous shots at me in another thread when i was on my leave of absent. It was uncharacteristic of my pal Weasal. He usually justs a hit and run type of guy, but he kept kicking me with his point. I guess weasal lives by the adage to always kick a man when he is down.:mj07: I do miss him in here tho. Maybe his air conditioner water line clogged again. You have to check those suckers every year.
UFC 76 - Knockout - Not alot of underdog $$ up for grabs.

Thiago Tavares (+135) vs Tyson Griffin (-165)
Guys, Thiago Tavares is a submissions friggin machine! Undefeated! Tyson Griffin LOOKED unbeatable at one point in time, but he that Clay Guida fight was not a win, so he's lost two in a row on my books. BUT...he's never been submitted of KO'd. This could turn out to be a repeat of the Alberto Crane drubbing at the hands of Roger Huerta from UFC 74. An unknown, undefeated grappler being overwhelmed by a better rounded fighter.
Prediction: Decision for Griffin.

Jon Fitch (-130) vs Diego Sanchez (+100)
How can you not like Jon Fitch? 13 wins in a row! And Diego, I really really want to watch the nightmare unleashed, but that fight against Koscheck was lethargic. Fitch is a straight up wrestler on a huge win streak...hmm...sound familiar? Could this be a repeat?
Prediction: not enough $$ for me to play, but if I HAD to I'd go Fitch decision.

Mauricio Shogun Rua (-350) vs Forrest Griffin (+270)
Dudes, have you seen Shogun fight??? Holy crap. He beat up Rampage like he stole his girlfriend. He has 2 losses, one because he broke his arm, and another in his 5th fight ever to Renato Sobral...when Sobral was good.
Prediction: Betting against Shogun would be like betting on a one-legged man in an ass-kicking competition.

Chuck Liddell (-350) vs Keith Jardine (+270)
Look at this, same line as the shogun fight. But the difference is that Chuck CAN be KO'd, its hard to bet against the punchers chance.
Prediction: Liddell KO, but if your CRAAAZYYY, you could make a crapload of $$ off of Jardine...remember, it only takes one punch.

I agree. I've been waiting for this since his loss to Din. -170 is a bit high. I'll put down a small amout and add to it if it keeps dropping.

SHOGUNNNNN -331 2unit
Omigawa +261 .5unit

(all they could say on the TUF show was that Wiman doesn't like to be hit. I'll take my chances against him then with these odds. And I'm a fan of good Judo fighters)

Sponge, sorry I can't help you. I have no clue about the guy Stephens is fighting. I'll take an unkown before I'll be against them now.

I am on machida at - 200.

and big on Chuck inside the distance at -167 and first round at plus 180. Jardin may look cool butin the ring he is pretty average and he doesnt have one punch power to take out chuck with one clean shot.

If i would play jardin would play him inside at plus425. He has to get very lucky to win this fight.

out of respect for 1837 (guy got a great record)

forrest small
