guys, just because it's the ufc and it's real doesn't mean they don't build fighters. boxing does it, so does mma. mir is shot, and he's being brought in as cannon fodder, simple cut and dried. he could win, but it's not what the ufc wants and they wouldn't be hyping lesnar like they are if they thought mir was dangerous, and they certainly wouldn't be making it brock's debut fight.

Amhil i have to disagree with you here. Normally i would be right with you on your theory but they hyped Shogun and he lost. Nog almost lost after the hype. Liddel scrap the last hype machice in Silva.
Until i see one of these go suspicious i got to go with the guy i think will win. I could be wrong but when i see Mir bringing in an Olympic wrestler to train with, it looks like he is serious.could i be wrong? Sure but i got to see it first. Now if this was any other sport in the world i diff be right with ya. Im just talking about the UFC here and not the ones Kimbo or bob Sapp fight in. That last Kimbo fight is exactly what you are saying.

i saw the weigh-in pictures and its hard to get my head(my head, not horn`s head) around the fact that lesnar is only 10 pounds heavier than mir.....

in the "fight-pose" photo i looked at lesnar`s hands compared to mir`s and it looked like a man vs a boy....he`s huge....

it`s hard to read....the fact that mir is a very good submission guy vs a relatively one-dimensional inexperienced fighter makes him dangerous...

and the fact that i`ve seen mir ground and pounded pretty severely in the recent past makes a lesnar win look like a distinct possibility....

standing up?...who knows.... if they stay on their feet i`ll be shocked...thats neither guy`s forte...

but i gotts say, mir`s mma record is full of pretty mediocre opponents...aside from sylvia(who`s much improved) and pete williams(a one dimensional striker for the most part),theres not a whole lot on his resume...

anybody have any feelings on tibau vs griffin...i see that this is at 155 and tibau fights mostly at 170.....griiffin does have a win over duane ludwig, though, and h`s a naturally bigger guy....

anybody know anything about tibau?

GW, the reason he looks so much bigger is because he is. I could be wrong but I believe Lesnar had to cut down to 265, that's the highest weight you can be and fight in the UFC. So come fight time he'll probably be 20 pounds heavier. He's a beast, the only way he loses the fight is if he gets sloppy and Mir gets a sub on him.

i think "beast',in this case,is absolutely the proper terminology....the guy also has a nasty attitude....

and how does an old, fat, shot tank abbott beat this kimbo slice character?...maybe he can catch him cold in the first 45 seconds, but, after that, abbott`s tank will be empty...and this slice guy looks in excellent shape...and can whack...

i know wagering on abbott/slice feels like we`re slummin`,but, abbott`s just in it for a payday...and thats a fact...he has no career (to speak of) left....

anybody in a reasonable price range vs abbott is worth a look-see,imo....i`ll be parlaying slice with something......maybe lesnar...

Marquart (-221) over Horn-large

I don't think I'd even pick a prime Horn over Marquart and now that Horn is shopworn, I definitely won't be doing so. I think he's just too physically weak and worn out to threaten Marquart.

Sylvia (+169) over Nogueira-medium

Tim will likely prove too difficult to take down and standing he should be able to either smother Nogueira in the clinch or box him on the outside.

Eastman (+199) over Martin-small

Martin will probably win, but they're both chinny punchers, so it's worth a small bet.

Tibau (+321) over Griffin-small

Again Griffin will likely win, but his fights are usually close and Tibau will be close to 185 come fight time, so it's worth a shot.

Nakamura (-241) over Emerson-small

Emerson has looked bad on the occasions that I've seen him. Nakamura will be debuting at 155, so I'm only going small on him.

I don't know what to make of Mir vs. Lesnar. I've never thought much of Mir even before his accident. His biggest win was over a mentally absent Sylvia. Instead of keeping the fight standing, Tim takes it to the ground and then watches as Mir blatantly and not quickly repositions himself for an armbar. His 2nd biggest win was probably over Dan Christensen or Wes Sims. His endurance has always been bad, which leads me to believe that he simply has poor endurance. If this fight goes past a couple of minutes, Mir is likely in trouble. However, with Lesnar's inexperience I'll be staying away.

U think this will put a chip on Mir's shoulder?
Fame Worth More Than Experience For The UFC

* By: Eric Shapiro | Feb 2, 2008

A lot of sites are blogging about the recent Dave Meltzer Yahoo! Sports article, which reports the payouts that Frank Mir and Brock Lesnar will receive for their fight later this evening at UFC 81. After reviewing the numbers, it?s not hard to see why this is causing some commotion. According to Meltzer?s article, Brock Lesnar will receive $250,000 to fight, and an additional $200,000 if he wins. So Lesnar could potentially walk away with nearly half a million dollars for fifteen minutes (or less) of work. Not too shabby for a guy who amasses a 1-0 MMA record. On the other hand, UFC veteran Frank Mir will receive $40,000 to step into the cage, and another $40,000 if he emerges victorious over Lesnar. While $80,000 is certainly nothing to sneeze at, it pales in comparison to Lesnar?s earnings for the night. However according to MMAJunkie, Frank Mir still has the opportunity to walk away with more than just his paycheck:

thanks,kick......

think about silvia/nogueira....what if silvia actually beats nogueira?....

wtf happened to all those great pride fighters?...other than rampage, they`ve pretty much sucked outside pride...particularly the heavies...

cro cop was a total bust..herring lost to an unknown.....werdum was beaten by arlovski......

actually, herring SHOULD have beaten nogueira in his first fight in ufc....

and below hvy, we saw the great shogun rua get beaten by forrest griffin...

clay guida beat marcus aurelio...

chuck basically dominated vanderlei silva...

and in an absolutely great fight...one of the greatest i`ve ever seen, nick diaz beat takanori gomi in the states(even though it was a pride fight)....

if sylvia beats nogueira,(i think for a long time universally recognized as the 2nd best hvywt in the world),does this mean that pride was way overrated?....

i always thought pride....particularly the heavies and lt heavies, was better than ufc....

maybe i was wrong...

I typically do round by round, but don't have time tonight.

I'm just gonna pick my predictions:

MAIN CARD (TELEVISED)

Brock Lesnar vs. Frank Mir - Brock Lesnar....I think Mir is gonna get stopped by TKO, not a KO.
Antonio Rodrigo Nogueira vs. Tim Sylvia (for interim heavyweight title) - "Big Nog'"
Ricardo Almeida vs. Rob Yundt - Ricardo Almeida
Jeremy Horn vs. Nate Marquardt - Nate Marquardt
PRELIMINARY CARD (NOT TELEVISED)

Tyson Griffin vs. Gleison Tibau- Tyson Griffin
Kyle Bradley vs. Chris Lytle - Chris Lytle
Marvin Eastman vs. Terry Martin- Martin
Tim Boetsch VS. David Heath - David Heath
Rob Emerson vs. Keita Nakamura- Rob Emerson

you know, rob emerson appears to be getting better as his career has progressed..but,isn`t there a big size difference in favor of the japanese feller?......otherwise,i could see taking him at +265 and possibly eastman at+200....in the eastman fight,i`d lean martin, but, either guy can get whacked....

and i`d be surprised if gumby beats marquardt....
