Beatdown. All that shit BJ talked and he got it handed to him. Not sure where GSP goes and at 170 nobody will beat him. Time for him to move up and potentially fight Silva.

He's fighting Thiago Alves next, that's what the post-fight hype was about.

i was disappointed in the guida/diaz fight...as well as the parisyan fight....and penn was done after one round....

a mixed bag...i lost some of my guida enthusiasm tonight....the guy is totally one dimensional...

and honestly,i thought he lost...he did nothing except hang on....while diaz was striking...trying submissions....and he threw guida around like a rag doll with judo throws...

if hanging onto your opponent like a leech without inflicting damage wins fights,then,o.k......he won...

You guys can't be serious. I paid for the pay per view and feel like I got more than my moneys worth.

You hink the Guiida fight was dreadful? WTF are you talking about. Clashing styles, lots of action....I don't know WTF you want, but that was an entertaining fight from my point of view.

Apparently, 1st round KOs are the difference maker for some of you guys. To me, that shit is booooooring.

How can you say the card was awful? Two champs, 2 undefeateds, an undefeated v. a proven vet. Please explain.

Ridiculous.

fuckin' new fans to the ufc is all I can think of dude...
One of the best cards I've seen in a LONG time. Distance fights in the UFC show me something; saw our share tonight...

I agree..... tonight turned out great, w/ the exception of GSP/Penn and Parisyan/Kim..... but I am a big Parisyan fan (unlike the rest of this forum/world) so he can do no wrong from my point of view.

I am a big fat sucker for a good judo throw, and Karo has thrown every single one of his MMA opponents. :)

gift for Karo bettors there. Could have easily gone to stun-gun.
Especially when the Cunt Blatantly grabbed the fence to prevent a SURE takedown with a couple of minutes left.

Changed the whole complection of the last round.

BULLSHIT!!!!!!!

ok all u machida is boring guys (sponge), that was a hell of a lot more entertaining than anything else tonite! :mj07:

this guy deserves the title shot!
I never said he was a bad fighter just a boring one. He got lucky tonight because he fought a retard. U might have thought that was exciting because the first few were so painfully boring.

BJ definately got betup. You could see the weight class difference. I think it's just so hard to move up a class and fight a super fight at a weight like LW and WW...big big difference IMO.

I definately think there are 170's out there who can give him a good fight, especially Thiago Alves...as much as I can't stand him. Whoever it is just has to have GOOD wrestling, but a very dangerous striker.

Also, I think Anderson would knock out GSP. He wouldn't be able to control Anderson like GSP is used to fighting guys. That's a big thing we gotta understand when talking about fighters moving up.

Okay believe it or not but i have hit ten fights in a row. Only problem was that only two were for over a 100 bucks :mj07: (Machida and Palahres) Now tonight i had Clay and i think i could have gotten a gift there. Clay wins round 1. 2nd round im not sure who u could give it to and the 3rd round i give it to Diaz. One thing tho about Diaz, he got away with a lot of fence grabbing. Also jumped on Machida. That was almost like a gift. Ihope i never see Karo fight again. Its like all his fights are all the same. Again u take away the cage and insert a ring and guys like him would be forced to fight. Somebody ought to teach the kid who fought Bonner to straighten out his punches a little and he may become something special. Boy i was wishing GSP would have walked over to Penn and wiped up a little of Penns blood and licked it like the classless Gesture Penn likes to use.

at least we agree there. gmrozz and redsfan think it was a great card  I did too until I watched the fights. yawn, and no, i'm not a new fan. I guess my roots are in boxing, and watching guys wrestle and lay on each other with no action is boring to me.

I've really enjoyed past Guida fights, but not tonight.

Lyoto is certainly not boring. he's just that good!

One of the best cards I've seen in a LONG time. Distance fights in the UFC show me something; saw our share tonight...

You have to be kidding me. We aren't "new ufc fans." First off, a collection of us have been avidly activating these forums with MMA such as Affliction, WEC, Dream, etc...

Secondly, I can speak for a couple of us who I know have been watching MMA for quite awhile. I started watching back in 97-98.

Finally, this card stunk really. The Guida/Diaz fight was pathetic. All Guida did was wrestle Diaz and basically play DEFENSE while being the OFFENSIVE guy. I don't understand what the fuck people see exciting about him other than his hair and him pushing the pace...but what good does pushing the pace do when you do nothing with it but just lay on someone?

The UFC isn't stupid. They put 2 good fights on the card with everyone else pretty much gatekeeper or mid-card status guys. People would've bought the PPV if there was only 1 fight..GSP/Penn...so the other fights didn't matter.

Look at the card as a whole. Other than Machida/Silva, Penn/GSP the other fights are typically UFN fights or...like tonight, MID-CARD/GATEKEEPER fights on "SUPER CARDS."

Also, the fights are all about the "new ufc fans" when it comes to the UFC. If the UFC is putting on big PPV's and getting new fans to watch, they cannot have a card full of decisions because that'll detract them. Newer fans aren't as educated about the sport so they're not interested in anything but finished until they learn more.

You can't honestly tell me you thought Karo/Kim...Diaz/Guida were good fights yet alone great....and without Jones throws, that fight was boring.

8 out of 10 fights were decisions..only the last 2 weren't. Pretty disapointing for the expectations of the card. I'm not really tickeled about any fights until April because of Rua/Liddell, but that card isn't even THAT GOOD....it'll be until May for a really good card.

!

To each their own, my friend. Boxing bores the shit outta me; give me two skilled MMA guys rolling any day over a couple of boxers that could take 3 days to knock the other one out...

Whoa...I'm impressed that you've been watching MMA since 97-98. You were, what? 12 then?
Did I call you out specifically Bucs, when I said there were UFC fans that disagreed with me? nope. I might not contribute very often in this thread( its because I actually have a life) but I know what the fuck I'm talking about when I do.

I started watching with an uncle when I was in the junior high school. That's how I got hooked on this sport...I think putting in 10+ years of watching the sport and fights from all over the world, I have a good grasp of what's a good card, and what isn't.

No, you didn't specificly call me out, but I often see people trying to throw around that "new ufc fans" comment on the MMA forums alot, and it's quite the fallacy and annoying.

As far as having a life, great, I'm happy for you. Does that mean we're any less than you? Doubtful...

Nobody said you didn't know what you were talking about. However, talking down to people doesn't make me listen or want to read what you have to say, any more. Also, whether you know what you're talking about or not, you're pretty dead wrong on the quality of this card. I will gurantee you that if you go to the MMA forums, the majority will agree that it was piss poor....Afterall, we are the fans, and our opinions are what matter, and quite frankly, the customer is always right.

i would suggest that everyone take a hard look at diego sanchez at -260 vs joe stevenson....if it`s to rich for your blood, you can parlay it...

.sanchez coming down in weight...maybe the cut will hurt him....but,i don`t think so...he wasn`t a huge 170 pounder...

he`s taller...just plain better, imo..a lefty....his 2 losses are by split to fitch and unan to koscheck at 170....and he has pleenty of nice wins on his resume...

stevenson may have been a big wheel in those old king of the cage shows, but when he moves up to fight the "elite" 155 pounders,he`s overmatched...

it`s guillotine or nothing here...and i`m sure sanchez is aware of the guillotine...

i`ll take the bigger, stronger quicker elite guy here......

I could care the fuck less if you thought it was a good card or not; I thought it was a great card. Talking down to people? Where did I talk down to people? I offered my opinion on the fights--feel free to disagree with me if you like. Like I care if a bunch of dorks like yourself at the "MMA forums" thought the card sucked; I thought it was highly entertaining.

B.J. Penn's camp has filed a formal complaint with the Nevada State Athletic Commission over Vaseline that was allegedly rubbed on Georges St. Pierre's back between rounds one and two. UFC president Dana White said at the post-fight press conference that he was aware of the complaint, and said he personally witnessed members of the commission take the Vaseline away from GSP's camp and rebuke them in the Octagon between rounds.

"I saw the commission jump up there and flipping out," said Dana White. They said one of the guys was rubbing Vaseline on Georges' back in between rounds. It was one and two, I think."

"The guys from the athletic commission went up there and started screaming at them. Knocked the Vaseline and kicked the Vaseline out of the Octagon."

White added that "some Vaseline on a guy's back didn't change the outcome of that fight, but you don't do it," and said the blame should fall on the cornerman responsible and not GSP.

"If a guy was intentionally putting Vaseline on a guy's back, he should never corner a mixed martial arts fight again."

As for what becomes of the complaint now, White said it's out of his hands.

"Who knows. That's up to the commission."

i agree, i'll probably make a large bet on diego.

one good thing coming out of bj's thrashing tonight might be better odds against florian. hope so anyway.

2009 MMA record 3-0 +8 units

GSP -177 3units
Tavares -121 2units
Silva +226 .5unit

Parlay
Karyo -299
Fitch -566 1unit to win .57unit(not sure if it's even worth it)

3-1 + 5.07 units on the night wooo hooo. I got lucky on my parlay, I didn't think Karo won. I thought it was a good night for the UFC. They needed Machida to do what he did, now they can market him big time for a title bout. I think he wins vs Rashad. I'm not sure who can beat him, I would say Rampage if he would be willing to take Machida down but I can see him trying to stand and get picked apart.
