"the bunker"
tell you one thing...i just watched cantwell and cane put on an absolutely beautiful striking match.....

kicks..knees..combinations...angles...ebb and flow...

what a fight!....professional boxers should be so technically sound...

i don`t think stupid fricking dana white knew what he had in these two guys...imo,idiotic throwing such an excellent 22 year old with limited experience in with a beast like banha....

they were tired but the pace was consistent and neither guy got sloppy.....

these guys are legit and will give anybody at 205 a serious problem.(give cantwell another couple fights before throwing him in with another talent like cane).....

i just loved watching those combinations and straight punches and kicks flowing....thats what people mean when they say "clinic"...

3-4 punch combos always ending with kicks or knees...

that was a thing of beauty...

bravo to both guys...

IMO some people are just making excuses for Silva. He did enough to win but in MMA if you aren't entertaining the fans are going to boo the hell out of you. Silva had Leites back to the fence plenty and still did little. Also, how many knees did Silva throw this fight? The UFC wants us to believe this guy is better than Fedor?:mj07:

Silva's reputation is the lone reason why the fight is portrayed the way it was.

It's kind of hard to fight someone running the whole time.

Don't give me this engage on Leites back crap, because you have to first and foremost fight the smartest fight...that's what the elite fighters do.

Recap: 5-1 +5.95 units :00hour

Another great UFC $$$ card for me! My only loss was that terrible call on Loiseau. He really layed an egg..:nono: Time to retire i guess..:sadwave:

Silva was a f*** joke!!! I'm sure GSP was laughing his ass off. Sure Leites was awful and scared to death but c'mon... Silva deserves all the boos we gave him.. He should have put up a show instead of toying Leites... One of the worst main event i've seen in a long time...:nono: :(

Anderson deserved some of the boos, if you are the so called #1 pound for pound fighter and you can't finish Leites you should be ashamed of yourself. But I don't blame Anderson that much. But anybody who thinks Anderson is clear cut #1 pound for pound fighter needs their head examined. One thing is for damn sure we know GSP is number 1, I mean you think GSP would have finished Leites, ummmm yeah I'd say so. The fans chanting "GSP, GSP, GSP", knew this. GSP would have finished Leites with ease. I mean please. Anderson deserves the kudos he's been getting but he should have finished Leites it is as simple as that.

Now if you want to blame someone for that main event fight it is Joe Silva and the UFC, Leites should never had a shot at the title. That fight should never have happened, never.

Oh and if you think that fight was boring you do not want to see Maia vs Anderson, that would be horrible.

GSP versus Anderson, can't wait for that one.:scared

Well main event sucked but at least we now know who the best pound for pound fighter is.

Wonder what Nathan Marquardt, Gegard Mousasi, GSP and Dana White were thinking when they watched that fight:eek:

If GSP wasn't such a nice guy, I'd love to hear what he thought about Silva:142smilie

#1 - They were chanting "GSP" because they were in fucking Canada, genius.
#2- GSP would finish a guy a weight class ahead of him? GSP isn't exactly a fearful fighter on his feet.
#3- How is GSP the clear #1? Maybe you knee jerk reacting fans need to get a clue. I get tired of people just making a knee jerk reaction opinion after a fight and just going all to hell in a hand bag with their opinions...you're bad for the sport. Anderson Silva would destruct GSP...and I can't wait for that match to happen so you just shut the hell up.

The main event was as close to a fixed result I have ever seen in MMA

in boxing we call it "carrying a fighter"

Sure, it is OK to be cautious for the first couple rounds. But by round 3, Leites was ZERO threat and Silva had over a dozen opportunities to finish it. At one point, he was ground and pounding him-and literally just STOPPED. Very strange behavior.

Leites was so weak in there, yet Silva would just dance around and, every now and then, flick a hand out. There were minutes at a time where NOTHING happened. NOTHING. Not one knee from Silva the entire fight, and very few effective strikes. Just that slapping jab and that strange slapping kick to Leites knee.

Kickserv and Anderson Silva's family all had bets on the decision.

I saw GSP's losses to Serra and Hughes, does that mean that GSP would get destructed by fighter X? Seriously, you're love for GSP is ignorant. Even I know when to put my favorite fighters into context.

I've also seen Anderson Silva virtually UNTOUCHABLE in about every fight he's fought in the UFC...the same can't be said about your sex toy.

GSP won't be 1 legitimate top 10 MW fighter.

Well not sure how my arch rival weepaul did, but things went well for kickserv, profit of +3.56 Rogans on the night:SIB

Of course if Chuck would have won I would have won every parlay, but Chuck decided to get knocked out in round 1, that wasn't exactly what I envisioned. I picked almost every fight correctly but decided to parlay everything, not so smart:rolleyes:

Oh and my selection on Loiseau was horrible:nono:

Anyway..........updated record:

MMA Record (since UFC 58)
---------------------------------------------

Prop Bet 24-20
Fighter vs. Fighter 130-198

Some of these post are hilarious. Where in MMA does it say in order to win u must take tons of risks to sastisfy the fans? Please guys Silva won because the other guy fought like a scared man. Just because he didn't take risk and make guys happy who are sipping beers and watching the fight is almost laughable. he fought about as well as u could against a guy who was running for his life. Should he just barge in and see if he could catch one on the chin?
As for GSp? Biggest mistake in his life would be to fight this man. He will get killed. There is a reason Liettes fought scared. Sure GSP will be able to take him down and then what? These world class Ju jit guys can't even do anything with him. And lastly why is it before most Silva fights i have to hear the other fighter talk about how Silva is human and just a man? Then the opponent goes out and fights him like Silva isn't human.

I'm glad you won your prop bet. I thought you were in trouble for a while.

As you made money, I feel I can gloat.
I bet BIG money on 3 fights. 2 out of the 3 won and it was the Canadian boys "The Crow" and "The Athlete" getting beat down that made me a fortune :00hour :00hour :00hour

Scoring on Silva fight was about as bad as i ever saw a MMA fight scored. I might be able to give Liettes a half of a round at best.

As for Chuck i don't think he is finished. What has happen to Chuck is he can't beat anyone with any skills in their hands. He needs Dana to let him fight all those handless wonders who carried him threw his title rein. Coulture,Tito, Babloo. All guys with shitty hands. Oh and he has to have the glassiest of the glassy jaws.

I agree that Anderson didn't light the world on fire, but what can you do when your opponent is running and rolling on the floor like a school girl the whole fight.

We can't expect Anderson to make the fight interesting when Leites virtually pulled a(was it Starnes vs Quarry?) on his back!

I felt Anderson could have been a lot more aggressive considering he didnt get hit in the face the whole night..... Leites didn't pose any threat at all, yet Anderson showed no killer instinct. His punches were weak and way too many leg sweep kicks, effectively keeping Leites at a distance throughout the whole fight.

Still, i don't blame him so much.. I mostly meant 'it takes 2 to tango,' and wish Leites came out and fought like a man..

Just upsets me to see a title fight go down like that, in any organization.

I guess I saw it different then. Leites flopped but had to get up. What the funk was Silva doing in the 4th round. Side kick to the knee, behind the calf kick to the leg, punch to the knee... I don't think he threw a punch to the head the last 4 minutes of the round.

In my opinion Silva could have pressed the action

Did you see him try to hammer fist Leites' chin?!?! :mj07:

Also, at one point Silva tried to elbow the top of Leites' foot :mj07: :mj07:

Dana White embarrassed, apologizes

Dana White embarrassed, apologizes

?I can honestly tell you that I?ve never put on an event that I was embarrassed to be at until tonight. I want to publicly apologize to all the fans?. I apologize. I personally apologize for what happened tonight. You guys know, this isn?t what the UFC was built on and this isn?t the way the fights usually go. Listen, any night you can have an off-night. When a guy is that talented and can literally end a fight whenever he wants to, wow.?

? UFC President Dana White doesn?t mince any words in a Yahoo!Sports.com article when it comes to his thoughts on the UFC 97: ?Redemption? main event between 185-pound champion Anderson Silva and Thales Leites at the Bell Center in Montreal, Quebec, on April 18. The five-round snooze fest offered little in the way of entertainment because it appeared that Leites was reluctant to engage on the feet, opting instead to flop to the canvas anytime ?The Spider? got close enough to do damage. He did manage, however, to win a few rounds merely because Silva was unable to get going, but it wasn?t nearly enough ? Silva earned a unanimous decision win to a chorus of boo birds. So what do you think ? worst UFC main event in recent memory or was Tim Sylvia vs. Andrei Arlovski 3 far worse? Let us know your thoughts in the comments section below.
