I love Dana.....even Sponge has to give him props here.

No i fault him here. Its him isn't it that sets up these fights? Im so sick of these terrible match ups they make and it lies directly with him. If this is all about the fans then make matchups with styles instead of worrying about giving a guy a championship fight. I see a guy like Jeremy Stevens fighting all ju jit guys when no one wants to stand with him. So give him Stout. Stout wants to stand with everyone. That Kick, is a fight fans would love. I couldn't care less if Jeremy Stevens wins a title but i sure as hell would like to see someone who wants to stand with him. Stout gives u that. Nobody gave Liettes a shot and nobody should have and this is what we got. Now with Cote Silva, at least we knew Cote would bring it. That type of fight i can deal with. Cane Cantwell was a very good fight. Styles make fights. Stop putting two styles together where no fight will happen. He puts a guy out there that is scared of his opponent then this is what he is gonna get.

Another thing these guys are risking their lives in there and could get brain damage very easily. Maybe Dana should jump in the ring and just bull rush someone and see how he makes out. It is easier to sit there sipping a 40 ounce asking a fighter to take all kinds of risk. If he doesn't want technicians then go out and get a bunch of Wandy Silva who don't mind bull rushing and getting knockout. Looking at brain damage in his 50's. Again what was Silva suposed to do? He got in Leittes face many times. Its impossible to fight a guy who doesn't want to fight.

Those 3 punches that Silva threw while in guard were pretty devastating but I agree he didn't want to lay in Leites' guard this fight. That would be a bad game plan.

The wake up call should be the 48-47 scorecard. I think we all saw it 50-45 at worst 49-46 but when you leave it up to someone elses opinion you are susceptible to bullshit results. That why I think he should have pressed and tried to end the fight early.

Elbowing the shin - and shit like this
anderson-silva-backdoor-leg-kick.gif

The way he worked the leg in the 4th round I thought he was setting up the for figure 4 leg lock.

tell you one thing...i just watched cantwell and cane put on an absolutely beautiful striking match.....

kicks..knees..combinations...angles...ebb and flow...

what a fight!....professional boxers should be so technically sound...

i don`t think stupid fricking dana white knew what he had in these two guys...imo,idiotic throwing such an excellent 22 year old with limited experience in with a beast like banha....

they were tired but the pace was consistent and neither guy got sloppy.....

these guys are legit and will give anybody at 205 a serious problem.(give cantwell another couple fights before throwing him in with another talent like cane).....

i just loved watching those combinations and straight punches and kicks flowing....thats what people mean when they say "clinic"...

3-4 punch combos always ending with kicks or knees...

that was a thing of beauty...

bravo to both guys...

Had to make sure I was in the correct forum before agreeing with you. That was a great fight - Cantwell could have check it in after the first but I was very impressed with the way he fought in the 2nd. Very good fight from both guys.

josh...my dude...always remember ...even though we may disagree on sundry topics in other forums...even vehemently at times(and i don`t really remember us ever having any issues) .....we can always find common ground...

we can disagree on issues and still remain friends...don`t internalize or personalize political or social...or even sports discussuion..it`s never personal with me(except for maybe 2 or 3 guys that are absolutely classless and use death or hard core pornography to make a point because they aren`t intelligent enough to articulate a position)......

that`s what makes this forum like a chuck e. cheese for adults......this whole site.... freedom to express an opinion...maybe even kick one another shins on occasion(a little snarkiness..some good natured ball-busting is a good thing)......and be men about it...

cause most of us with wives or girlfriends don`t usually get to say to much...we do alot more listening than venting or expressing ourselves...

you`re a good dude...i totally respect you...as i do(and i say this without reservation)every other regular poster in this forum....

My thoughts:

Liddell is done. I was confident that the line on this fight was correct and Rua would get taken out, but I was way off.

Silva is getting a raw deal. His style is to counter-attack and everyone knows it...so what do they do???? They don't strike and we get a shitty fight because Silva has to start attacking and the other guy does nothing. Leites should be the one getting lambasted. You can adapt to a guys style, but you still need to fight. Thales Leites would be fighting undercards for 2 years against nobodys if I had a say. Ridiculous.

Cantwell and Cane looked solid. Stout rebounded and looked good against a guy that is on his way out. Kongo is going to be fun to watch against some top talent but probably won't be able to beat any of the top 5 heavyweights.

Joe Silva is the matchmaker, Spongy, not Dana. The dude who shakes the hand of both fighters after each weigh-in, and after EVERY fight in the UFC.

C'mon, dude...... gotta know Joe Silva.

I know it is Joe Silva but u know Dana has a big say in it. It is crazy not to think he doesn't. Liettes got a big gift win over Nate and should have fought someone else before he got this chance.

Updated record

2009 12-4 +27.01

Lost my two small plays(played for action but hey it makes it fun) but hit my big play on Shogun.

Shogun looked good but I'm not sure how good he looked. Chuck looked very bad so it's hard to judge. I think a good Shogun is the best in the division. I can't wait to see the potential matchups. I see Rampage fighting the winner of Machida vs Evans, Rua getting another big fight and if he wins that then he'll face the winner of Rampage vs either Evans or Machida.

my internet access has been bad lately so i haven't been able to post. unfortunately i managed to make a few bets, fucking liddell. i'm as aware as anybody about how much brain damage that guy has incurred and yet i bet on that guy again.

the deterioration in his chin has been crazy.

i can't imagine what sparring is like with a guy who has no defense and no chin. either he got koed a lot training for this fight or his sparring partners were throwing extremely weak punches.

if liddell fights again he's a goddamn idiot.

Agree with ya muhr, if Chuck goes back in the cage he's an idiot, his chin is gone:scared

Have this weird feeling though that he'll get in the cage one more time. Hope I am wrong.

Well at least he made Rua look good:shrug:

Why I picked Chuck is beyond me....what was I thinking:mad:

Did Lidell even have a chin to begin with? I think that title rein was built on guys that had no hands. I remember back then i always wondered how in the world hekept winning because i thought he was a sloppy boxer. Finally a few guys who could throw made their way up the ranks and he got what i thought he should have gotten three years ago. When i look at a lot of those names he beat a few years ago it only looked like Belfort had any hands. I just don't see the slippage. I thought he did very well against Rashard but got way to aggressive and then bang. His chin is just so fragile anything that comes close to it knocks him out.
