Sex is great exercise and it's more fun than going to the gym. Sex is good for your circulation, improves aerobic fitness by increasing heart rate and respiration, and exercises many major muscle groups. Each time you have sex, you burn between 100 to 300 calories per hour,:s6: depending on how vigorously you go at it. If you can't find a partner, don't worry; masturbation burns calories too. :jerkit:

four years ago I was at my same height of 5'10" and weighed in at 270 at my largest. I do suffer from Hypothyroidism also. Got that under control and now have held steady at 190-193 for three years and running. It was all about meal portions and excesses. I can actually crack the hag in the can laying on our sides on the couch now.

Hope that helps,
FDC

I'll join the crew.

Last time I posted about weight, I was 7 weeks into P90X last summer without missing a day and weighing about 170lbs. I'm 6'0. Then after the unexpected loss of my father, I have since gotten up to 195lbs and stopped taking my hypertension meds. Amazing what sudden loss (death, divorce) can do to a person.

To lose the weight my advice is to keep it simple.

Breakfast is a MUST. Very important. Also very hard for me. It's the key to kick-starting your metabolism.

More dairy: ie low-fat or non-fat yogurt. Many, many studies show that people lose more weight when they incorporate dairy into their diet. I think it slows fat absorption.

Eat slower- My wife says I eat like a yellow lab. Eating slower is a big key to weight loss as is portion control.

Drink more water- your body can be thirsty but your brain can interpret that as being hungry. You know the old adage...drink until your pee is clear. Also helps ward off kidney stones.

At least 1 serving of fish a week and no more than 1 serving of red meat.

Allow one cheat meal a week. Pick a night.

Don't beat yourself up when you slip. We all do. They key is to get back up on the wagon quickly.

No food after 8pm (killer for me). Very important.

Less (no) beer...will be very hard for me but if we don't have it in the fridge i won't drink it.

Exercise at least 3x/week.

In the end it's a simple formula. Calories used > calories intake = weight loss.

Best of luck fellas.

Yep, as embarrassing as it may be, life deals you many curves. I have went from a muscular guy, to an NFL lineman sized individual. (Think Pat Williams!) A divorce (I realize my body is my fault) really through me out, and I had a 100lb weight gain in a little less than 3.5 months. (No thyroid or any other conditions, mystery wasn't solved then with rapid weight gain, so PC doc, and Internal Med doc chalked it up to stress, depression etc.)

So here is my catharsis, and another thing to hopefully keep my focus. But I have been eating correctly as I did make a committment to realize my potential to turn my body around. I did/do have a fear ofover working myself and having a heart related issue. Especially after having a 39 year old buddy suffer a heart attack after a hockey game, so that did put some fear into me. (He is a triathlon guy as well). So I took steps last week to get my blood test done, and then to meet with cardiologist for a stress test just for piece of mind. (I meet with them tomorrow.) But today, I got me blood test results, and will keep it on here in hopes if you are struggling to make changes this may motivate you as well, and by all means jump on in with your story, and we will track it here.

As of January 4th:

Height: 6' 3"
Weight: 363.4lbs

Blood Work: (Done after fasting for 16 hour fast)

LDL: 76 (Well below a medicated standard of 100 or less)
HDL: 33 (Should be over 45)
Tri's: 306 (Should be under 149)
C-RP: 5.5 (Should be less than 3, several causes but tracks as a marker for artery inflammation)
PSA and Thyroid: Normal

I am not doing anything out of the ordinary other than trying to exercise regularily, and watch the diet and portion control. Being in sales, lunches are a downfall, that I am sure has helped me maintain this weight. Interesting, the weight gain was rapid, but the depth of effort to get this off, is huge!

A huge apology to Jack, and other's I can easily tell you to stop smoking, but understand the effort is difficult so I applaud you for the efforts. Now to internalize that, and put forth my effort in weight loss.

Look to see other's join in, let's roll of some weight and make some positive changes!

I went through a 21 day cleans during the Holidays and lost 19 pounds, 2 more since. Had my first alcohol yesterday, 2 glasses of wine, after 23 days. Also had my first sugar today, small piece of lemon cake.

I'm inspired and learned a lot. I still have kept many of the restrictions of the diet in my day 2 day.

I wasn't suppose to smoke but did have 2 cigars during the diet. I will be having at least 2 during the Cowboy game.
