Non smoker charged for smoking in a room at Paris

Good friend has been at Paris for the last 2 nights.
He requested a non smoking room and was granted one.
This guy has never smoked ANYTHING and is a diehard antismoking person.
He went down for coffee at 8am and went back to his room to find his key not working.
Went to the front desk and was informed that they are charging him $560 for smoking in the room.
Supposedly their sensors detected it at 6:30 am.

He vehemently objected insisting he never smoked in the room or anywhere .He asked to speak to the manager and was told nothing could be done.
The $560 charge sticks.
He is contacting his credit card company but this is crazy.
Anyone ever hear of anything like this?

I'd do what he did, contact the credit card company. If he has any proof that he's not a smoker, I'd gather it (past physicals, or company healthcare questionnaires, I'd use those as proof).

hold up, they have non-smoking rooms in paris? paris france??

i'm pretty sure the french are REQUIRED to smoke, starting at the age of 6.

but, yeah, that's pretty fucked up. other than disputing it with the cc company and trying to involve management... about all he can do is threaten to report this to his million followers on social media.

they're probably doing this to all americans abroad now. can't really blame them.

i'm getting a maple leaf tattoo on my face and all my international travel will now be with kickserv.

Not surprised. Crooks.

Vegas ? I’m surprised. Fk mgm.!!
Yea. Cc company. Social media. And file a report with metro. Even tho the casinos own metro. Get it on file so you can take them to small claims court. I would do it out of principle. And for the Terrible customer service.

If the smoke detector went off and alarmed the front desk at 630a then there should be a recorded record of the alarm as well as hotel is supposed to dispatch someone to the room to verify there's no fire, the guest is okay, they smell smoke and reset the detector alarm.
Call the CC company and deny the charges. I imagine he did not sign the credit card receipt?

From what I have traveled in Europe, France has had the best quality and service in hotels, followed by Italy. A bit surprise if You think about other custom service situations.

UK&Germany... ziisus, like going to Turkey or Asia... no scamming like this though.

Did this friend sort this out ?
