AZ:

Don't drop by here on a timely manner, but you made my work on the NFL very trivial today.

You have Su and I's strong support. Su is going through some issues also. Won't know anything for 2-3 weeks. Really hard to stay focused, as you said.

Our thoughts are with you brother!

Thanks for the prayers and good wishes.

Talked to a doctor tonight while I was visiting Kathy. Doctor is a pulmonary specialist and he called me from Boswell ICU which is an affiliate of Dell Webb... Sun City-Sun City West Hospitals.

They postponed the transfusion last night but will probably do one tomorrow due to low RBC ie anemia. Also will definitely be doing a CAT scan of lungs and abdomen.. not sure why not an MRI instead?

May be doing a punch biopsy of hip to check out bone marrow. And will probably do an upper GI study tomorrow.

Kathy is absolutely THRILLED with all this attention! NOT

They did find occult blood in stool this evening for first time which may point to bleeding in upper GI tract.

The hospital food is absolutely awful! Do people go to school to learn how to cook that BAD??? Ran to Dairy Queen for a hot fudge sundae for her tonight.

Since Kathy works with me in the office (chiropractic) and will not be there. This week will be a bitch. No idea if she will be out by Thanksgiving.

A patient of ours works in the lab. He's a lab tech and has been doing her stuff. Saw that she was in last night since he works the 2nd shift. Nice guy. Brought her some flowers tonight and talked to us a bit. Of course wouldn't tell us what he thought about the lab results. Doctor has to or he's in big trouble which I understand and respect.

I'll keep you posted

Thanks

May God watch over both of you. I have loved ones on their death bed right now, so I can empathize with you. I hope for the best.

God Bless you both

Az, we men are wimps compared to woman and what they have to endure(physically)so it doesn't surprise me that your wife is so strong. I can here in your words how much you love her and worship the ground she walks on.

I will say a prayer for you and your wife and may god bless you both.

Well, when I heard the off-the-chart WBC count the other night I had a good idea of what might be going on. Asked the doctor the other night what he thought and got dead silence and a little laugh.....nervous.

Left work early today and met Kathy about 4:30 at the hospital. In walks a female Indian (from India) hematologist/oncologist.
Short and sweet.

They do a punch bone marrow biopsy tomorrow in her pelvis (ilium) to determine what type of cancer she has.

It's leukemia.

I think she can survive this. She may need a bone marrow transplant. Too early to tell.

Damn I hate being right.

After the doctor gave the presumptive diagnosis she wanted to do an exam so I excused myself and walked around the outside of the hospital. Had a cry ...then went back to Kathy's room and sucked it up. Took some of her things home to wash (7 minutes from the hospital) and brought her stuff back.

Damn I hate having to be strong. Like a damn rock... I did it for my Mom and I can do it for Kathy. But I don't really feel that strong tonight.

Kathy says she is going out of her mind with boredom in her room. I hope to pick her up a laptop computer tomorrow at Fry's. I'm thinking a Compaq. If anyone has any suggestions let me know please.

Thanks

They "installed" a portable catheter in Kathy's chest for adminstration of IV chemo in a few days.

Report not back on definite cell type but is leukemia. We remain positive and are determined to fight this.

Kathy called me in tears this morning saying she won't be out for Thanksgiving and will be in the hospital for five to six weeks in isolation once chemo starts. Only immediate family will be allowed to visit since her immune system will be shot. So I cancelled the rest of my day at noon and will just close down shop till Monday. I feel that it is more important to be with her than to work. Patients will just have to understand. Unfortunately my new associate has gone home to New York for Thanksgiving or he could pinch hit for me.

Kathy may need a bone marrow transplant from her daughter or one of her sisters. Fletcher has volunterred to be tested to see if he is a match! I sincerely appreciate the offer Fletcher. I too have volunteered. But since Kathy is Japanese and has close living relatives we will start there. I think you and I may be off the hook!

I bought her a new Sony laptop yesterday because she has been going out of her mind with boredom especially when she is up in middle of night. She tells me that a hospital is not the best place to rest and get caught up on your sleep.

They did a bone marrow biopsy in her hip yesterday. Five sticks and wiggling a needle around for five minutes or so with EACH stick. Doctor originally said to us.. many patients don't require anesthesia or pain medicatiion for this....

I only had one question for the doctor...
Are YOU FUC*ING CRAZY? Give her the damn.. drugs!

Kathy tolerated it well but said it was "unpleasant". NO CHIT

Once test results come back we will know more about prognosis.. there are seven types of acute myelogenous leukemia... some better than others. We just don't know which one yet.

I realize that this is a depressing and upsetting subject to anyone... my appologies to any that I am boring or sickening.

Just want my friends here to know how we are doing.

Lastly

HAPPY THANKSGIVING to all my friends

Enjoy time with your families, spouses, children and friends.

Love you all

AzRusty

Randy

Sorry to hear that was praying for better news. You and your wife have to be positive to beat this and I'm glad your are. I will be thinking and praying for your wife's recovery. As I said before my wife went through some health problems and we are still dealing with it but we stay positive and thing do get better.
