OK, fellas. I've placed my wagers for Day 3. Here is what I've decided on (following kickserv on the following three):

K. Beck at even for 2.5 units
S. Koubek at +350 for 1 unit
J. Craybas +400 for 1 unit

However, after reviewing some things, I can't get myself to wager on Tipsarevic over Fish. A little over a month ago Fish beat Tipsa on clay in Madrid. Not exactly Mardy's best surface, either. Of course, the altitude helped the American there, with his big service advantage. That advantage should only be magnified here on the grass courts of Wimbledon. I see no reason the Fish-erman doesn't move onto the third round (believe it, or not...). Just a good matchup for him, IMO. Won't go against kickserv, but I'm laying off this one, altogether.

In lieu of the Tipsa play, I am splitting the 1.5 units and taking a couple stabs at two other big dogs tomorrow. (Yes, I'm a sucker for the possible juicy returns).

K. Vliegen +450 for 0.75 units
M. Granollers +600 for 0.75 units

My thoughts on these two:

The Belgian, Vliegen has always been uber-talented, just you never know what you are going to get out of him. I think he could ride a wave of confidence from his first round victory and give Verdasco some problems here. Also, this is clearly not Verdasco's most comfortable playing surface.

While Granollers is a Spanish dirtballer, I think his game translates fairly well to the grass. Witness his 22 aces against a well-respected all-around and grass court player like A. Beck in the 1st round. That was a nice win, indeed. Granted, I loved Soderling in the French. I should only like him more on this surface, but...for some reason I find myself back-peddling on my earlier belief that he would somehow sustain his wicked play into future slam events. While his first round win over Muller didn't unearth any past "issues", it didn't impress a ton, either. IMO, this one is well worth the chance at this price.

Happy Wimbledon Day 3 To All,

-JC

Nice Koubek.
I leave home after him losing a 4th set tiebreak to win the match.
Arrive at work 15 minutes later and check to track it.
Koubek losses 6-1 in the 5th.
What could have been.
NEED CANAS to comeback and for Beck to step up today.

Adding to my frustration on the day. I left Granollers alone after looking at him hard as I just didn't see enough in him even at +600 over Soderling after Soderling's run in the French.
Granollers takes the 1st,but Soderling should still win this.

What kind of shape is Beck in?
Maybe he needs some more clenbuterol before the 3rd set starts.

The clenbuterol has kicked in. Beck breaks early in the 3rd. Comeback is underway.
Maybe he has some other things in his bag these days.

This has been ureal for me, the past couple days. Yesterday, I have Kimiko +1500 up a set and a break in the second...LOSS. Then later in the day, Hradecka +600 outplays Ivanovic most of the day, has two match points in the deciding set...LOSS.

Now on to the crap today, we all see the Koubek +350 meltdown after being up two sets, even had a couple of break points in the fourth set...LOSS. Add to that Vliegen +450 matching service holds with Verdasco all day then wins second set tie-break, and is up a mini-break in the third serving at 4-3. He hits a great serve that Verdasco can barely get to, a frame-shot that goes 50 feet in the air...lands on the baseline! Vliegen can't do anything with it and that was the turning point of the match...LOSS. And most recently, Granollers +600 wins the first set outplaying Soderling in the second set, they get to the breaker and Marcel saves a match-point, then quickly earns his own match-point, but to no avail. Now, Soderling has the set equalizer and I can already tell how this one is going to turn out. I've never felt so "right" about this many wagers only to lose them all...just ridiculous.

The dogs just aren't completing the task at Wimby so far this year. If Granollers and Beck both go down, it will be time for a sports wagering break for me. I'm not going to continue to lose back the good money I've gained from baseball and tennis over the last month. All these rough beats could be the sign that my run is over. We'll see how it plays out. I guess I'll hold out some hope.

Beck 5-2 on the 4th hopefully he can keep it up. Has been doing a lot better job on the returns this set. Has had triple break point twice.
