Wow Angel Cabrera vs Phil should be a classic. Both guys will make a ton of birdies.

Tough draw for DL3 to play Stenson..Paul Casey vs Badds should be a battle of 2 guys who play well in the desert. Would not be surprised at all to see Padraig and Vijay go home in the first round.

I like the Hansen brothers, goofy glasses and all, to take out Els and Furyk. A little high sticking with a 7 iron ought to do it.

13 Soren Hansen over 4 Els
13 Anders Hansen over 4 Furyk
10 McDowell over 7 Z. Johnson

I don't think Olgilvy has ever lost in the first, second, or third round. He'll be a big fav. I would think.

Yea this is a new course, which I think will skew some of the statistics from previous years.

I said one thing and I did another. Round 1 plays are---

R1 Goggin over Perry +150
R1 OHair over Scott +125
R1 O Wilson over Choi +150

I've been on Goggin twice already this year and he hasn't let me down. Perry has been great over the last two years, and he should win. I just can't convince myself that's true. This is an odds play, Matt is not this much of a dog.

Two years ago OHair was on my permanent fade list. Now he's back in my good graces with some pretty good play, mostly end of last year. Scott drops into journeyman class and doesn't deserve to be the favorite here.

I sorta like Choi all the time, I really like Wilson most of the time. Understand that? Badly written. Youth over age. Match-play expert over not a match-play expert. Plus odds over minus odds.

At first I liiked the Hansens, I still do, not enough to wager on though.

Yes, this is a new course this year. It was a new course last year too. Course history is out the window, and match-play history is in the window, so to speak. I gave up tickets to this event, I did last year also. I already had my winter holiday, Tulsa, one week. Froze my nads off. How does anything grow there?

European versus American is a good capping. I lean toward the continentals. Modern golfer physique, tall -thin, is another angle I use here. In this situation, I like intensity, I think it's a good thing in h2h competitions.

I like this tournament. I like the fact you can play great and lose, or play crappy and win.

Olgilvy to win 23.00 SIA

Gotta go with Geoff here. He already thinks he won it. I love that kind of arttitude.

Q. You have a great record in this tournament and it is clearly a format you enjoy playing?
HENRIK STENSON: Match play seems to bring out the best in my game and from myself. It is fun to come back to a tournament where I have played well in the past and in a format I have done well in so I hope this will be another one in the making.
Only thing is that I had three weeks off. Got sick with a stomach bug and a cold in the middle so I was flat out for ten days or so and it is only the last couple of days I feel I have regained full strength again. The golf might be a little rusty but it is one of those tournaments where hopefully I can play my way into it and keep on building as we go along. But then you can play great and get knocked out or play so-so and win a couple. You never know what is heading your way.

Q. Different course this time?
HENRIK STENSON: It wasn't on my request that they changed! It is the same for everyone as nobody has played round here. The biggest change is the greens and the undulations on the greens. It will be a harder course to score and not as many birdies. It is a tricky course and you have to be in the right spot. You have to be very careful on some of the greens. You can get it to a couple of feet away and then all of a sudden you are 30 feet away so you have to be careful. If the shot doesn't quite come off the course can bite you back.

Q. Is the course significantly different to the Gallery over the road?
HENRIK STENSON: The look and feel is the same tee to green but the greens are the big difference. There are some reachable par fives and short par fours. I have only played the back nine so far and will leave the front nine to tomorrow. It is the greens that is the main difference. The long par threes are also tough. The reachable par four 15th could be a key hole. But it is a desert golf course and if you are not on the grass you are in trouble.

Round 1:

S. Stricker over D. Johnson - Laying 1.3 units to win 1 unit

:toast: Sounds reasonable although Dustin does have some match play history. Tough beat last week with Fred. :( Will be interesting with Dustins length advantage and the course being 7800 yards. He should be 40 yards longer off the tee on every shot.

Derrick,

Here is my rational - May be worth fading heavily, as I have sucked mightly so far this year:

D. Johnson - First time in this format on the PGA Tour
-Playing for the 6th time in 6 weeks. The only cut he didn't make this year was in Arizona.
-Dustin started the season 143rd in the world golf rankings. He has been hot the last three weeks. I think he cools off quickly this week.

S. Stricker - Only playing his second tournanment in a row during his recent outings (9-4 lifetime in this tournament).
-Last tournament (last week) finished 2nd, although it was a choke job.
- Also finished 3rd in Hope 1 month ago
- Most importantly, Stricker is a fighter, he is not afraid of anyone. In matchplay, which is what I have the most experience in personally, you have to have a football players mentality. Stricker fits this bill better.

Once again, only 1 man's opinion, who has the started the season aweful. So be careful backing my plays!

As far as Funk, who would have thought a 6 under the last day was possible. Also Bean tripled bogeyed the 9th, how often does that happen for a push!

It's been one of those years!

Derrick,

As far as length goes, I listened to the J. Nicklaus radio interview on PGAtour.com. He says with the elevation above sea level difference, the course actually plays at 7300 to 7400 yards. In addition, he designed this course with matchplay in mind, along with consultation of the PGA.

He says there is 4 to 5 holes that can favor the shorter hitter over the longer hitter. In addition, he says they tricked up the greens to make it more of a putting contest.

It should be interesting.

Ian Poulter

Ian Poulter

To win:
Poulter 65-1

Poulter -130 ov Singh -- Poulter 4-1 in opening round matches, going pretty big on this matchup.

I hope I don't jinx you but I've noticed we seem to think alot alike lately on many of our picks. I loved Ian Poulter as this Match play tourney approached based on his intensity, his success last year as one of the two captains choices in the Cup, and his opening round record as you brought up.

Then when Derrick posted the bracket earlier this week, I kind of like his path to extend it some distance. I'll be on him but still looking at others. Hope you don't consider this a jinx though.
