I still think Carly fails. In the end the fact she is a plant and not even AMerican will catch up.

I have liked Cook from Day 1 - problem is one of these weeks he will badlly fall on his ass.

If I thought the voting was on the up and up I'd agree with you. She's a plant the same as Archuleta who won star search, or Kristy Lee Cook with a failed album, etc. You may be right, she might not win, but I can't see her not making the finals and I can hedge whatever then. But that's jusy my opinion.

I like Cook as well, but listening to Cornells version, its clear Cooks isn't the best. Its just Americas first time hearing that version for most people and it sounded cool albeit he sang it well, myself included.

The problem with Cook much like Ramiele, is it seems the hairstylists and fashion people of American Idol are forgetting them each week. They need fashion help bad.

Also agree when they do opera week or showtunes or Diana Ross or whatever dumb theme they come up with, he might struggle a bit.

Well, I did pair up two people with songs...not bad for picking several options for each person...:mj07:

My observations on the night:

Cook's performance was again an incredible selection and Idol performance. Have not listened to Cornell's but will. The thing is, America will think it was the shiznit, and it was. This kid is the best (even better than Daughtry) at picking the right song/arrangement, and nailing the performance. He's even looking appropriate at judge talk time, which he didn't used to be. I liked him early on as a favorite, and he has gotten better. His knack for arrangement on surprising songs should carry him through a tough subject week, I think.

Carly was uninspiring this week. Totally predictable song choice, overdone, and not worthy of a winner. She's top two talent wise, but uninspiring if the song isn't really good.

Brooke did a bad rendition of the Police song. Way too poppy...the song is perfect as originally done, and shouldn't even be an option for this - no way to positively change the arrangement, IMO. This one knocks her down a couple notches.

Castro's selection was interesting (I'm a Sting apologist, tho), and it probably kept him alive again. His video minutes before his songs will keep him alive week after week...the chicks dig him. Not as good as Sting's version, but how many are when doing a rendition, on any of the artists?

Thought Johns was really good - another one I kind of predicted. He is the most ambitious along with Cook, but his voice will not carry him through to the end. Two Queen songs have him pigeonholed, I think.

Archuleta was not in the top 3 or 4 for me tonight. He has shown weakness in two weeks now, not such a favorite now.

I think Cook lives another week. Simon was right - how can you argue with a purely American anthem for American Idol? Finally she locked in on America with her sweetness and the purity of song and countryness. A good performance, one from the heart. But soon gone...

Bottom two from tonight should be Malubay and Chickeeze. I still think Syesha is bottom three material, even after a good performance for her.

I would predict Ramiele to go home, I guess. Hers was bad, and she can't be too strong overall at this point. But Syesha has to be close, doesn't she?

agree with alot of what you said...

I hate Castro, he comes across as very fake and he annoys the hell out of me. His facial expressions when singing make me want to punch something.

archuletta annoys me more than any previous years contestants.

disagree with malubay going home. Even though she went first, I find it very unlikely that she ever goes home before the chikeezester.

Castro is an Aggie- that says it all.

BDB-do you believ e that Tatto skank was in bottom 3 last week or was that the ruse to get her more votes?

I'd be real interested to know how many people completely missed carly smithson and david archuleta sing. Here in new york my tv went black for about 10 minutes and they weren't shown. I think she is the best female singer and has a real shot to come in second to david cook, who will win it all. maybe you know bdb, or have heard how many people were affected by this...

I wouldn't mind the show this year as muc if the judges had some inkling of truth in what they were saying. That kid archuletta is a disgrace and his last few songs have been a total mess. To hear Randy and Paula you would think he was the second coming of Elvis or something. The kid sucks or isn't ready. Tell the truth. And when they don't like somebody they trash them even if they hit every note. Let's be somewhat fair about this thing.

Dolly Parton songs this week.

Another gem from the idol producers. Who fcking cares. I'm sure there are song spoilers out there but since I know zero songs except 9-5 I could care less and probably won't watch.

Other news:

David Cook in hot water

In a statement issued to the press on Saturday, lead vocalist Luke McPherson contends, ?When given the opportunity to speak up and reveal where the arrangement came from, David Cook did not. His silence on the issue implies that the arrangement is his own. It is not.? The band is careful to note that they are fans of the show and they are not seeking royalties (which they would have earned off of iTunes sales had their name been mentioned on air). Their impetus: ?We just want David Cook and American Idol to do the right thing and acknowledge these facts. It?s that simple.? Whether Cook was actually aware of their version is still unclear as representatives for Fox could not be reached for comment over the weekend.

The compensation we are asking for is the easiest and least expensive around ? we, at minimum, want David Cook and/or American Idol to admit that the arrangement he performed on March 11th, and then went into the studio and recorded for immediate sale, was not only inspired by, but almost completely carbon copied from our arrangement.

They want David Cook to admit that he ripped off their song note for note. I don?t think that?s going to happen. I also don?t think TPTB are going to allot Idol airtime to the discussion of an obscure band. Blake Lewis has said in interviews that David Cook told him that his acknowledgement to the band was cut out of his package.

David himself has not spoken on the issue. We?ll see what happens.

Apparently he ripped off a Seattle band doxology on Eleanor Rigby or something.

I guess this is only internet type news as 99 percent of the voters will never hear of it and those who do won't care.

Actually, that song by David Cook is dark enough to let him look introspective and smart again, and I'll bet he does it well. I listened to the songs on I-tunes, and though Cook and Johns could make something out of those - maybe Castro.

Carly singing hers is weird to me, if she does it well, could be good for her in bad songs. Brooke is again predictable in that choice, and probably will get praise for the pairing.

Malubay's song is really boring and I think will kill her. Don't see it working at all. Didn't hear Archuleta's song, so can't say. Should be a decent category for him to survive. Syesha probably matches up pretty well with her song.

I think David Cook's song seems like a good choice again. I am worried about liking his choices so much, and seeing all of the copying claims being posted here. Definitely would change my opinion about his "smarts", but not his performances. Everybody could have picked a lot better than they have - and he is nailing it. Interesting - thanks for posting the stuff.

I guess I'm the only schmuck that enjoys this stuff so much. Sad, really.

I used to Chadman, but the themes the last two years have killed it for me. I don't mind broad spectrum themes like Elton John, Billy Joel, Beatles, decades, etc.....at least you can have an artist with huge songbooks and such.

But I though Dionne Warwick last year was the last straw, but Dolly Parton might put me over the edge.

Feel free to give a recap because I'm 100 percent not watching. There will be 38 million viewers minus 1 tonight.

as for your favorite Cook, don't worry about the stealing stuff. It's not the reason Daughtry went out 4th or Blake Lewis didn't win...It didn't effect them at all. Onlly internet geeks read that stuff. It'll never hit mainstream media or be on the show.

Only peeked at his pre-song interview (Tivo'ing it to watch with the wife later) - he addressed it all quickly, specifically, and mentioned all of the "found" versions on the Web - so Idol will I suppose take care of all of them. Seemed like a quick disposal, and some serious damage control at a good time by the Idol folks.

They are smart, no doubt - but the Dolly and Dionne stuff, as you point out, are horrible nights. Don't know what they'll do about it - as long as people keep watching, they won't have to worry, I guess.

I thought Johns was the best of the night, really good performance. Also thought Archuletta was very good, David Cook's song was good, Carly's rendition was good. Other than that, nothing that good, for me, on a tough night.

Raymielle is just outclassed at this point, did not like her again tonight, and can't see anyone else going home before her out of the bunch. Brooke was not very good, but she is well liked. Christy did not do too well in her specialty week, and will leave very soon.

All IMO...but I thought Johns was terrific, and is still alive in this.

Still three clear cut favorites for me, in David Cook, Carly and Archuletta.
