I liked Dolly week. I thought they all did pretty good. On the whole I thought they handled it better than they did the Beatles. I hate to say it but I thought Kriste may have been the worst of the bunch. Whats with the floor length dress? Oh well. I enjoy this stuff. Of course I come from a time when music had a melody.

Idol Gives Back Week. I remember enjoying last year's show - if you can get past all the predictability, there were some good performances by the people on the show. I guess they are going to also have the Elite Eight perform, at some point this week and the elimination show is Thursday? Don't know. But the topic is, Inspirational songs. I posted this from one of the Spoiler sites, the person put some possible songs on the list - no idea what they will actually do, but this week should allow some personal choices and responsibility to come to the forefront.

Idol Season 7 Top 8 IGB Week - What Should the Idols Sing?
Published April 7th, 2008 in American Idol,

In celebration of Idol Gives Back, the Top 8 will be singing ?Inspirational? songs Tuesday night. Yes, amidst all of the IGB hype, there is still a competition going on!

This week?s theme is the broadest yet, and can mean just about anything, really. I put together a list of the songs I?d like the Idols to sing. What songs ?inspire? you? Post your thoughts in comments!

PS: Next week?Mariah Carey mentors.

My picks (the author, not me) are after the Jump?

Brooke White - ?Let the River Run? by Carly Simon
Jason Castro - ?Shelter? by Ray LaMontagne
Syesha Mercado - ?Ooh Child? by the 5 Stairsteps
Michael Johns - ?Heroes? by David Bowie
David Cook - ?What?s So Funny ?bout Peace
Love and Understanding? by Elvis Costello (thanks for the suggestion, cheese!)
David Archuleta - ?He Ain?t Heavy, He?s My Brother? by the Hollies
Kristy Lee Cook - ?You Light Up My Life? by LeAnn Rimes
Carly Smithson - ?Beautiful Day? by U2

Another quick rumor...

Tuesday
Song Spoilers for American Idol's Top 8
As I say every time song spoilers are circulating around the internet, take 'em with a grain of salt. Heck, last week Entertainment Weekly posted a list that was completely wrong, so we won't know for sure what the American Idol Top 8 will be singing until tonight's show.

Having said that, here are a few rumors floating around...

David Cook -- "Innocent" by Our Lady Peace
David Archuleta -- "Angels" by Robbie Williams

more to come...

If I remember correctly, last year the big surprise on elimination night was nobody was eliminated. They said it wasn't right to eliminate someone on Idol Gives Back week, I wonder if they will do the same this year?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but if I remember correctly they eliminated 2 the following week and counted the votes from both weeks...

You sound like you have a wide range of music knowledge.
What did you think about michael johns performance ?
Sounded to me like the song was to big for him or he just didn't hit it tonight.

and is it me or is Paula useless as a judge

on tivo, so will let you know in a bit

i can assure you it will be about a 1/3 as good as steven tyler at best though

theres only 4 people that have really made an absolute mark on the music world from this show and that's if you lump in clay aiken with underwood, clarkson, and daughtry. i don't think theres a contestant this year that will do much.

and yes, paula is useless as a judge, so is randy, and so is seacrest as a host. simon cowell is the only one who has any clue about whats going on.
