Play competitive hockey and then come back and tell me how much better the game is when the cheap shots are rendered with a stick instead of a fist. It is a different game when the players all have weapons in thier hands.

I have cooled off a little bit now but I would still be disappointed if Bertuzzi was not, at the very least, suspended for the rest of the season. The reason the nucks didn't go after Moore on March 3rd was because there was an NHL commissioner at the game watching for a retaliation. There was not a commissioner at the at the game where Bertuzzi took his cheap shot which is why they kept going after Moore. They thought they could get away with it. This what makes is obvious that it was planned.

Further, the statement that Bertuzzi just fell on Moore is totally invalid. Bertuzzi put his forearm on the back of Moore's neck as he was falling and slammed his head into the ice. That is what broke his neck. Had he just sucker punched him from behind Moore would only be recovering from concussion symptoms right now. Not fighting to not be paralyzed.

And yes for those of you who have not broken a bone. A fracture is the same thing as a break so yes Moore does in fact have a broken neck... had it been a compound fracture, Moore would be dead.

If I was Bertuzzi I wouldn't even want to play anymore. I would take what little pride and integrity I have left and leave. Everyone knows him as Mr. Cheapshot now. He will never be able to live that down. He lost all respect from all NHL players and fans...

so in boxing, when they fight, one guy is trying to severly hurt the other guy right? well he is punching him with a glove on so he must be trying to ruin his career, right?

Sam
When they punch each other they are following the rules of the sport.
If one boxer bites the ear off another boxer its against the rules and is dealt with accordingly
I'm afraid your argument doesn't hold water

Last time I stuck up for the "bad" guy in here I got reamed, but I'll do it again.

If Steve Moore had gotten up uninjured, Bertuzzi would have probably stayed in the game. Do you know how often sh*t like this and worse goes on and the refferees miss it. Unfortunately there is always a knee jerk reaction when someone gets severely hurt. That is truely a crime. But EVERY night in the NHL someone gets hit from behind, crosschecked in the neck etc., and it doesn't make the highlite reel, because the player is not severely hurt. As a matter of fact, they often are seeking revenge because of the cheap shot they receive. How would you like someone putting their stick between your legs, and pulling back hard with the blade up, trying to grab your nuts. THIS HAPPENS ALL THE TIME. If you are watching on TV you probably won't see it , but go to a game and watch the action in front of the net, don't watch the puck, watch the play in front of the net . The problem is, so much stuff is gotten away with.
Unlike most of you I have two kids playing hockey. I would love for them to play in a safe environment. The safest environment is to nip it in the bud. I think, it is severe penalties for infractions, regardless of the outcome, instead of severe penalties only when the victim is SEVERELY injured.

How come a high stick where it glances off a visor is unknown to everyone(except when the player goes to the bench, and sees the stick mark on his visor) Yet the very same high stick that takes out an eye would be on every sportsreel in the world. This is the very same high stick. This happens every day where players miss losing an eye by inches. The very same high stick, but which is worse.

Just remember you heard it here first. Someday down the road some guy will lose his nuts. There will be an outcry, suspend him for life, put him in jail, but this happens in almost every high level game, hundreds of times a night, but until someone on TV gets it good, nothing will happen.

also Shannhan(sp?) the red wings player said most of the leauge wanted Bertuzzi gone for the season so it would be easier to face them if the meet in the playoffs:eek:

This pretty much mirrors what I posted earlier. In regards to Dick McStiffin inquiring of my need for chap stick, I would think if anyone needs it by your reasoning it would be Sam, since I was typing the long arguments and he was the one agreeing with me.

In any case, I think some of you lost grasp of what people like myself, sam, poolguy were discussing. We weren't saying the hit was clean. We never said he should walk. I think that hit was as dirty as they come, and I agree he should have been suspended a significant amount of time. I was simply trying to spark discussion of intent to injure vs. actually injuring. This whole situation is annoying to me because mainstream media who is clueless about hockey is simply using this as another way to degrade this great sport. The unfortunate part is that he was injured, but this entire topic wouldn't have gotten any media had the injury not taken place. Dirty hits like that are common occurances. I bet you could take tape on an entire week of NHL games and find at least 10 instances at the least, where one player attempts to injure another, and the potential is there for a broken neck, cut cornea etc. The thing about this that annoyed me the most was that it gets all over PTI, etc with guys who know jack shit about hockey and then just ripping the NHL.

trade,
heard those comments from sakic and shanahan...shanny said it best...

and for the last time it wasn't a 'broken' neck...surprisingly, i never really knew CNN, Regis, The Today Show, and even Oprah were such hockey people and carried and wanted to carry this incident...puzzling...amazing what negativity brings out in everyone...

lets move on, and wish moore a quick recovery...

On the course!
No Sam.....I didn't see it. Like I said, I stopped watching the NHL when it stopped being a sport.

Stick up for these goons all you want.

Shouldn't dig up old dirt, but.........
last night a two handed baseball swing with a hockey stick to another players' head. Today a spear into the guts of another player with the blade . either play could have caused death. These two incidents combined will not be suspended half of what Bertuzzi received. Why not???
