Only watched last night's episode and was suprised to see a thread on it..
The plusses....... Well the setting and the theme seem to fit but sadly that was the only plus.. This episode was extremely boring. I too like Steve Buscemi but he does not appear to be the actor to fit his character. Don't know why.. He just doesn't fit the role of a hard ass monster at his age.
I will probably watch one more episode just to check but I am not expecting too much.

Boardwalk Empire is not fiction. It is based on true events and a timeline of events that are to be known as actual occurrences.
This is why I think it is a pretty slow moving story line. They seem to be following the timeline of events, you would think that they would "embellish" a little to keep up the pace, but then again - that might completely fuck it up.
So far I am into it, hoping for a big payoff.

I think the writing has been extremely weak. Almost forced to a point. I can see them sitting there "How can we make Rothstein appear cunning and ballsy". Sit him at a poker table and have him win with a big bluff. "How can we make Jimmy's home situation fucked up" Fabricate a possibility of his wife banging a married photographer". It's almost too obvious what they are trying to bring out in the characters. It's been disappointing thus far IMO.
