I really hate how they 'hold' the boxing wagers like that when fights get cancelled/rescheduled. Why? What is the problem with returning the wager so we can reinvest? Other sports are not like this either, so I really don't get the incentive to do this.

Lopez vs. Luevano Under 9.5 +125 - Large (pick made 1/15/10)
First, let me say I watched more fight film than most fights on this one (~3hrs). Luevano hasn't fought a lot of southpaws. Luevano's defence is set up to protect from a orthodox's power right hand. When he single or double jabs, he brings his right hand back slow and never to his chin always to his body. This leaves him wide open for Lopez's power left hand to the chin. Also, Luevano does not take body shots well and Lopez throws some nasty ones. Another thing to consider is that Luevano has been knocked down in 3 of his last 4 fights (yes the last fight was an after the bell knockdown). Also, Lopez is at 126 now which should give him more stamina. Lopez gets him out in rounds 7-9.

Good Luck Guys! :box2:

How much of a power left does Lopez have? Seems to be one of those right handers, converted to southpaw with a tremendous right hook that Luevano is well aware of. Agreed, Luevano is going to have to put together a masterpiece and sit down on enough punches to get Lopez's respect. I haven't gone over Lopez's record, but I'm sure 115-118 pound Penalosa is by far the most skilled opponent so far for JuanMa, many overmatched Mexicanos on the resume. Look forward to it.

How do people like Beibut Shu? I liked the plus odds....but are now moving. Many had him winning the VERY close 1st fight. I didn't see the fight but looks like he simply faded against a guy that has a ton of heart but doesn't really have a load of talent. Shu dominated the early going. I think the Kazak fighter comes in better prepared this time. I took the plus odds while they lasted.

LOL

Actually maxed him like 5 hours ago on 5dimes .

Beibut's Kazakh guys signed with Golden Boy I believe so he will be the '' home fighter '' in this one . Last round changed the outcome from UD Beibut to him losing the fight from what I hear . Cant afford to lose this one , doesn't mean he cant lose but I think his guys are confident he will win this time hunting for the revenge fight since the first loss . Could be another Bute vs Andrade type of 2nd fight maybe . I think Beibut and his guys are aware of what was the problem , which seems to be his cardio as he is pretty well schooled boxer with decent power so this cant be the issue .
I think this time there will be another winner , as I was pretty surprised he has lost a close decision like that at home in the first fight .

So you are the one who moved the line

I should have known
:toast:

Still thinking about this fight
I wish there was footage of the first bout
I don't think it exists

The shot that put Beibut down in the 12th was a body shot apparently
http://www.boxingnews24.com/2009/08/campillo-defeats-shumenov/

"In the 9th round, looking very tired, Shumenov somehow dug deep enough to score a knockdown with a left to the head of Campillo. However, Campillo paid Shumenov back by dropping him with a left to the body in the 12th that put him down."

:mj07: :mj07:

From what I've read it was more the case of Beibut being dropped from gassing combined with this body shot than seriously being hurt from a single punch to the body .
This is the most important fight in his life and he gets a great opportunity to show his skills on a big network finally from being totally unknown . Skillwise I think he has it and if he has fixed his cardio issues atleast to a level where he doesn't tire out in the first 9 rounds he should be able to win this one .

I was stunned that Campillo beat Garay. But I think Hugo had to lose like 30 pounds in a week, and the Spaniard was able to take advantage and snag the title.

I was even more stunned when I heard Campillo went to Borat land and kept the title against Beibut.

A lot of people are down on Shumenov. The dude built his record picking on faded former champs like Griffin and Mitchell.

But Beibut was a very solid amateur. If he can get rid of those stamina problems (it wasnt just last fight), I think he can take a close decision here.

But I want to watch more footage this week.

I made a big stink about this in a thread last year Quanah. I have tried to avoid the books that have that hold rule. 5dimes is one of the few that releases the money the minute it is cancelled.

Oddessa wrote a really fair response on this from the book's perspective. A lot of players who jump on early lines don't want to lose the price they got and would rather hold on to the ticket until it is rescheduled. The rule, I think, is 60 days. I see both sides now, but I think there are certain cases we get screwed.

For example, there are certain cases where a fight is GUARANTEED cancelled and NO RESCHEDULE will ever occur. I have had a wager held, in the past, even AFTER the fighter completes another fight against a completely different fighter. Very aggravating.

I will try to find it on the old thread and post it.

The early line wagers make sense. Maybe they could adjust the rule. Hold the wagers, but if they receive a request for refund, honor it. That would seems a happy medium.

So, at this point it appears that we ain't gettin' any new lines for this week. I saw some new odds for future fights on Sportsbook, but nothing new for this week.

I was hoping to see lines on some of these:

Wolak vs. Arvin
McCall vs. Bisbal
Nietes vs. Silvestre
Rios vs. Melo
Sexton vs. Ahmed
Duddy vs. Astorga
Airich vs. Mazikin
Lundy vs. Abril

Some parlayables would have been nice...

I like Mads Larsen on next week. I remember, Brian Magee vs Tony Oakey and I thought Oakey won clearly but result was surprising draw in hometown Magee. I think next week, Larsen will outpoint Magee by wide decision. Anyone disagree or have any thoughts on this fight?

Regarding 60 day rule:

Here is the thread from a few months back (the argument at the time was regarding, funny enough, a Shumenov fight. He was scheduled to face Berrio, and Byron Mitchell stepped in last minute:

Hey, thanks for retrieving the post Ghost.

I thought that was a thorough and well-written explanation by Oddessa. Certainly helps me see the other side of it. What he said about books potentially putting out false feeler lines was interesting. Also, it is true...you played the wager, so you liked the odds and think it will win. Some players though, can't afford to have a big wager tied up for too long. Good post.

Weekend Plays

Weekend Plays

Viloria-Tamara OVER 11.5 - good size
The probable best puncher in the division, G.Segura, couldn't budge Tamara. Neither could O.Navarez or lesser known sluggers J.Esquer and G.Verde. Tamara has never been ko'd, and to my knowledge has never been down or even much hurt as a pro. All of this leads me to believe that Tamara has got a great chin.

Viloria can punch, mostly in accumulation style, but he also has no problem settling down into a boxing match if he feels his opponent isn't going anywhere. He has done this numerous times, and it is, I think, precisely what he will do here... Also, Viloria has Calderon on the horizon - so he will not take chances and may even want to get some rounds in.

11.5 is a long way to go, and the fight being in the Philippines offers some uncertainty... Although he's got it goin on now, Viloria tends to fight to the level of his competition. I think that Tamara will be in this fight - something like 116-112 for Viloria.

Juan Manuel Lopez - straight - large
Lopez-Luevano UNDER 9.5 - good size

I got a big chunk on Juanma at -365, which I considered a gift.

Luevano is a good fighter...but not a great one. I think Ghost was right when he said that Luevano gets the most out of his ability. If this were the good old days of boxing, when there was 1 champ, Luevano would be a top 10 guy but never win THE title.

Lopez is, I think, on his way to being a great one. The Mtagwa test will have made him more resiliant. A lot of knowledgeable pundits are seeing this as a long, even close fight, but I disagree. I think Lopez does everything better than Luevano. Luevano has been down numerous times as of late, and when he goes down he seems genuinely hurt. Juanma can really crack, and where other guys have not followed up, he will. I don't see Luevano as being very strong, and I'm not sure he even hits hard enough to keep Juanma off for very long. Further, Juanma will want to be impressive after the first ? of his career.

I've also noticed that Luevano comes into fights cold - no sweat and not ready. If he does this here, I think we could see an ending much earlier than most suspect.

Good luck madmen!! :SIB

Bet365 is offering a line on the McCall fight. McCall at -2500. Geez...at that price I'd have to joke around with Bisbal.

How the hell old is the Atomic Bull anyway? Never mind boxing, he's gonna be past the legal working age soon. Gotta hand it to the guy, he's a rock.

From watching his fights, it seems JuanMa has power in both hands. If Luevano sits down on his punches and tries to throw power, that would be a big mistake. He doesn't want to punch with a puncher. If he is going to win, he is going to have to outbox JuanMa with fast, precision combos and quick feet to keep JuanMa from setting his feet and throwing his bombs. You're right about JuanMa's record being pretty soft, but he hasn't lost many rounds in his career. It could be agrued he has only lost a few rounds to Mtagwa when he got tired from hitting him flush too many times. I'm looking forward to the fight as well. :)
