GW,

didn't mean to offend you with my comments about Dirrell not being a man.. i like this board, dont want to start on the wrong foot here.. :)

All I said is that I would not consider Dirrell a man if he was acting. And that's fair, I think. Of course, I don't know if he was acting.. but just like Olddirty I get a feeling that he was..

The KO punch just didn't seem that hard to me. It didn't look like AA took a good aim and loaded up on it. Plus when you hit something that is below your waist the power is not the same (but of course if you don't see the punch it makes its effects worse, I agree). And the weird behaviour right after punch.. enough was said here already better that I can say..

By the way,I have no problem with D. outboxing AA for the first 8 rounds, that was pure class, but just like everyone I want to see the conclusive result. So hopefully we'll get a rematch at some point!

Yeah, Valero is crazy and a disgrace. I guess the rehab was the quick compromise so that they don't have to send him to jail. Collapsed lung definitely calls for a prison term.

Pity there will be no Manny / Valero fight now. I have to say, I would like to see it much more that Manny / Mayweather :)

About Dirrell:
I think Froch did a much better job of "roughing" Dirrell up than Arthur. I expected Abraham to follow the Froch gameplan and improve on it. But he did the same shit he always does. Abraham is a cocky guy and he just assumed he wouldn't eventually get to him. Had he started earlier, and really made it a dogfight, he would have scored the KO. And I do think you are right - Abraham is a bit of a nasty bastard. He enjoyed the KO - illegal or not.

These guys are KILLING each other in this Super Six. I remember when someone asked Pavlik about the Super Six, before it started, he said something like "Let those guys go kill each other for peanuts". It really is a lot to ask of these guys - they are fighting the cream of the crop one after the other. A guy like Ward, who has proven to be mentally above the rest, will probably be just fine. Froch also seems tough mentally. Very tough.

But guys like Kessler, Dirrell, Green. I don't know. These guys have shown glaring weaknesses in my opinion. Mentally. Dirrell is gifted with incredible speed and reflexes. Some of the shots he was landing and doubling up on early in that fight - wow ! Great stuff. But he does a lot of this, I believe on instinct and athleticism. Whereas Ward seems to be a thinking fighter - combining the speed and reflexes with smarts, craftiness, tempo control.

How bout Valero? What a disgusting guy. I love watching him in the ring, but I don't take too kindly to wife beaters. They sent him to alcohol rehab? Where I'm from, wife beaters don't belong in rehab. They belong in jail. Hitting a woman that pretty - he must be loco.

Yeah, AA got some pleasure out of that. Shit, I got some pleasure out of that - know that sounds bad - but truthfully I would have preferred a more natural conclusion one way or the other.

Pavlik has a point. It's a rough tourney. And even though Direll won, he was KO'd. He can be hurt. I wouldn't be surprised to see tall puncher Allen Green put Dirrell to sleep. Green can be inconsistent but he's fast and has real power.

Sounds like the laws in Venezuela are a bit archaic. That would have flown in the US 50 years ago but now with " a domestic" dude won't get that kind of latitude. Charges will be brought with or without the spouse.

Hey, if this happened in Iraq the women would have gotten 50 lashes for upsetting her husband.

But, seriously, Valero has issues and he needs help. Hope he finds it. It's amazing such a reckless guy with a poor lifestyle is still such a badass in the ring. Valero is a talented guy and I want to see him right without all this bullshit.

The POS has a tattoo of Hugo Chavez on his chest along with the flag of Ven. That alone gives him immunity in his country. Pretty disgraceful shit that went down and now the wife is claiming she fell down a flight of stairs. Valero and Chavez can go fvck themselves. I'm a forgiving guy but beating the shit out of a chick when you are a pro boxer...fvck em.

Can't really argue. Ugly situation and horrible thing to do. No way to justify it.

She was ringside for DeMarco fight. Beautiful woman, very gentle looking. Beauty and the beast.

Regarding AA, one more thing. All the tough fights he had he was fighting at home with all the little things on his side like referee who will give him a benefit of the doubt, crowd and promotor. Fighting like that all the time gives you comfort and you think you don't have to work on yourself and you don't evolve. That is why he looked like fish out of the water in first half of the fight and that's why he was looking at the referee every time he was punched close to belt. And this is probably why took a swing on the downed opponent. He was frustrated like spoiled kid and he thought that maybe he will get away with it.
He is a beast though and I don't think he is stupid so it will be interesting to see what approach he will use in his next fight. Froch is more suited for his stile though.

As for Pavlik, yeah it looks stupid to him watching guys having wars when you can defend against journymen time after time for good money. Questioning a real champions willing to challange themselves. Classy. To think I was a real fan of a guy couple years ago.

Yeah, Abraham will roll Froch. Froch will fight head on and King Arthur is stronger, hits harder and has a better chin. He'll eat him up.

You know what fight will be interesting, if it happens, is the battle of the Andre's. Ward may actually struggle with the fleet Dirrell and I don't think Ward hits as hard as Dirrell's last 2 opponents.

But Ward is athletic and got himself strong, which has really helped him, with the Victor Conte concoctions. Nice fights await in this tourney - it's good stuff.

badlefthhook's take on the Henry result:

"From this weekend, Chris Henry KO1 Hugo Garay. A nice little brawl while it lasted, though the ending was controversial. Not something I've seen much before, but Henry actually knocked Garay out from a punch while clinching. Garay stayed down, possibly because he was out, possibly because he thought it was a push, and possibly because he thought it was a rabbit punch. It really seemed to be a little of all three, and the ref easily could have ruled it not a knockdown for a number of reasons. The result created a bit of a skirmish, where Garay's corner nearly took the ref's head off after the fight. Henry is now the mandatory for the belt held by Beibut Shumenov, although it sounds like Shumenov may be required by the WBA to face Vyacheslav Uzelkov before the mandatory becomes due."

Pretty clever stuff from William Dettloff at ringtv.com. Made me chuckle (I was one of the dumb ones counting both Ward and Dirrell put):

"Who would have thought going into the Super Six tourney that betting favorites Mikkel Kessler and Arthur Abraham would get their heads handed to them by Andre Ward and Andre Dirrell, a pair of under-achieving Americans? So much for European dominance at 168 pounds. If Joe Calzaghe weren?t stoned, he?d be deeply embarrassed. ?

I was convinced Dirrell would run so much from Abraham that he?d need new shoes by the fifth round. Instead, he stayed put and took advantage of Abraham?s inexplicably abysmal work rate. Abraham made Josh Clottey look like Ray Oliveira. ?

Still, I?m not entirely convinced Dirrell was as hurt as it appeared. It?s relatively rare that guys convulse on the canvas and then walk out of the ring. I think Dirrell took the opportunity Abraham presented him, even though, on my card at least, Abraham would have had to score 137 knockdowns in the last two rounds to win the decision. ?"
