Quick Weekend Review:
Bailey was just too much for Figueroa, who can talk and promote a great game, but just can't cut it at world class level. A brutal one punch KO. I thought Figueroa might have been exposed against Augustus, and it was proven to be true.
Hurtado is definitely fade material from here on out, as he squeaked by Morua by doing his best "Maliginaggi imitation" (as weasel stated). The decision could have easily gone the other way, but for those who grabbed the plus odds early on Hurtado, this was a bit of a steal.
Pianeta vs. Sos, I thought, was the best fight of the weekend. Great give and take from both guys. A very competitive heavyweight bout. The announcers who were screaming Sos got robbed (and in the next breath saying they scored it a 1 point difference) were doing both guys a bit of an injustice. A draw seemed very reasonable. I thought Pianeta took it by a point, but I was happy to get my money back.
Povetkin and the OVER bet in his fight had to be the lock of the weekend. Congrats those who were smart enough to grab that OVER or Povetkin by decision. There was just no way the Russian was losing this. Not with all the money on the line in the future. Estrada, I thought, was very disappointing. Lacking condition, punch output, NO POWER, and even that chin gave way at the end. I will bet against again next time.
Reluctant Rolando Reyes ! Finally lets his hands go and cashes the +500 odds for those who took the kid from Oxnard, CA. I have been betting against Julio Diaz the last few fights, and it finally paid off. You can't fix a glass jaw. Reyes was WAY TOO PASSIVE early on, but he got the job done and pulled off the upset of the weekend.
Now we know why the oddsmakers made Escobedo, Katsidis, and Valero such heavy favorites. Escobedo made his fight WAY tougher than it needed to be, but parlaying these 3 favs was an easy cash. I'm annoyed with Escobedo for dropping the old man twice and not finishing the deal, but what can you say. Famoso is one tough bastard. I just think now he needs to be one tough retired bastard.
Katsidis is still extremely limited, but Chavez was tailor made for his style. He just willed his way through and punched the heart and guts out of Chavez.
and Valero - what can you say. The guy is an absolute ANIMAL.
Andrade and Sosa also proved to be easy picks - however those who took the Andrade UNDER were extremely unlucky. He just couldn't finish the deal. A shame really, as it looked to be hitting several times.
Finally, Tim Bradley. MY MAN ! What determination. Desire. Grit. What a WARRIOR. What this guy likes in punch and size, he makes up for in technique, brain power, and BALLS. HUGE BALLS. That first round knockdown would have stopped 90 percent of the fighters in the world. I loved it when he took that knee (to further gather himself). Round 2 he fought back hard. And by the end of 3 he was in control of the fight. What a performance. Simply outfighting and outsmarting Holt. As most of us thought, the sturdier, steadier guy won out.
Congrats guys ! Great week !
Regrets - NONE !
