Thx for the link Ghostman :0074 :0074.:0074
All I can say is shocking. Kirk looked a bit soft and those shots didnt really look like anything special, especially the 1st one. I don't like the way Blow Cortez mugged him as he was trying to get up but I do feel he would have gone down again. He was clear headed though. Didn't look as though Kirk could even touch his taller foe. A very astute poster @ boxrec said prior to the fight that if anybody goes down early, that it would be Kirkland. I don't recall a week where so many shocking events occurred.

Totally agree Romi. We were all in shock as the punches looked light indeed. But what does that say? Kirk DID go down from them, did he not? As the weasel stated, this chap Kirkland may have whisker issues, I don't know. It's so easy to second guess a ref, but he is right on top of the action. Sour grapes from Kirkland.

Well, Kirkland got knocked down 3 times, not only once! IMO, if you get knocked down 3 times in a round, its hard to argue the stoppage...

Also in attendance last nite were Holyfield, Juan Diaz and Zab Judah, in case HBO did'nt mention it. There may be some others, but my gray matter is in decline.

Sure am glad Cortez didn't stop it when the great JMM went down 3 times in the first round against Paq... Not sure how much time was left in that first round, but if Kirkland survived and got the minute to clear his head it wouldn't have been a suprise if he turned it around. Not really arguing the stoppage its lying on a guy and pinning him down when he's trying to get up. Didn't like it , didn't look right but Cortez has been irritating for years with of course his DQ of Soto after he destroyed Lorenzo being the worst.

Jose Miguel Cotto/Paul Malignaggi Under 9? +500

I know most of you are going to giggle at this play for obvious reasons but here is my rationale.

I think Cotto is awful and Paulie is actually the bigger man here. I can see him applying enough speed and pressure where the lesser Cotto's corner throws in the towel. Also Paulie was actually sitting on his punches last out so who know, maybe he is a new man.

Paulie has been violently KTFO twice recently and if Cotto has a great night, then Paulie can get Yuri Foreman'd here (yes I had the Yuri Foreman under as well).

Paulie used to have a lot of problems breaking his hand. If it happens again, and at age 30 and as the non-main event maybe his corner stops it.

Butts

Too many maybes in my mind to not take a stab here

Paulie's hands after the fight, as always were a mess, his left may even have been broken.. I'll never argue someone taking a stab at (high) plus odds under with headbutts, DQ' etc. Frank had the nads to hit under 11.5 Stieglitz at a plus number and he was rewarded for a smart, gutsy play. I only thought about it..

Hey punchy, I mean it was a D.Q. win!!! Shows ya how much luck I need to hit a freakin bet, but I'll take it. My main bet was Guerrero of course. We met his aunt and uncle at the fight. We met them bout 6-7 years at Green Valley Ranch and took some pics with Guerrero, supposedly they are posted on his website.

Not much luck on that under Frank, didn't see it but heard Stieglitz dominated/frustrated his smaller foe who couldn't deal and lost it - excellent play at the plus number. Very cool meeting the boxers & their families. Many perks to being in America's major fight town if your a boxing fanatic.

I was considering the over 9 1/2 -250. Didn't see 11 1/2. Steig was getting to Gevor and it was obvious to me that Gevor didn't want to be in there. I think he was looking for the dq to save face from getting stopped. I believe an 11th or 12 rd tko was a good possibility. He raised a big stink to make it appear like he got jobbed but the dq was a good call.

The sexy Sergio Martinez was there and it's funny to see Nonito Donaire up on the ring apron taking pictures all fight long as if he's a 30K per year boxing photographer.

I think Martinez was there, in part, to begin to hype a Martinez-Kirkland matchup. So much for that.

It's true those shots didn't look like much at all. Ishida had always been a light puncher too? The strangest thing in it all was that Kirkland never showed any signs of a chin problem before, then he's like Glass Joe in there. Can't make sense of it???

In his last fight with some journeymen he did a brief Zab/chicken dance after taking a jab I believe.

I saw that and thought WOW.

Couple weeks later I put that motherf... in parlay.

Kirkland - chin issues. Myself - brain issues.

Actually now that I think about it. I'll take this one for Ann Wolf. Feel much better now.
