Last round won it for Groves

Last round won it for Groves

Just read that one judge had RJ by a pt and The other 2 had lebed by 11 and 3 respectively. I didnt see the fight but was this actually close? Like Morales I think RJ probably was getting pts for simply being who he is.

Moot pt now but would be curuious to see how the judges scored the Degale/Groves fight...especially the last rd which saw both fighters having moments but Groves, imo perphaps stole it in final 10 seconds.

I received the Groves vs DeGale scorecards from the BBB of C today. After 11 rounds, Richie Davies had DeGale up 106-105, Dave Parris had Groves in front 105-104 and John Keane had it dead-level, 105-105.

Both Davies and Keane gave the last round to Groves while Parris had the last round 10-10.

Groves, IMO, won the fight with that flashy burst of punches with about 25 seconds left in the fight; he stole the decision "at the death" as they used to say in the UK.

Thx Graham! I had Degale winning the rd up to that point myself. He actually had Groves hurt about mid way with some very good body shots. Groves hung in tough and battled back. I still thought Degale was winning the rd until that last little burst which made it even on my card. I had Groves by 2 pts but fully realized either guy could have won but by no more than 2 pts either way. Degale allowed Groves to steal the fight. I said about mid way that Groves had to work much harder than degale to win rds. Degale clearly the better fighter, let this one slip through his hands by not being busier.

This is my opinion to the letter.

This is as good as GG gets. DeGale can improve 100% from the last fight if he just lets his hands fly.

I HATE watching someone hardly breathing hard after 12 rounds. It tells me you didn't give EVERYTHING you had to win.

Sorry about your loss bro :toast:

Thanks weepaul.

Bad bad beat - but a long way to go this year ! Patience.

Thanks bro! Jeez; Ibarra is a punching machine, that's for sure. Would have been a terrific fight to have seen live. I have to say, Ibarra did look exhausted though. The filipino, is an elusive target to say the least. That Ibarra has dynamite in his gloves. We need to watch for his next outing and see if more $$$ is to be had. Thanks again for the heads up.

My opinion:

Roy probably stole a few early rounds, moving, shucking and jiving. Lebedev just followed him around the entire fight.

Lucky for the Russian, Roy was exhausted after 6 minutes - beginning his usual rope a dope, high gloves routine. Lebedev was pounding on him every round from round 4 on. I can't imagine having RJJ up on the cards. That is just dead wrong.

Regarding Degale-Groves. The more I read, the more I see scores in favor of Degale. Just gutted to lose a bet by those margins.

Degale's behavior all week created an incredible environment in the arena - they despised him ! The support for Groves was overwhelming. Judges are only human - I'm sure the crowd had a bit of an influence on the result.

The crowd was booing JG like crazy, and cheering every little pitter patter GG landed. I was very nervous going to the scorecards (sweating in fact). I knew my bet was in big trouble.

Degale, to me, seems the better fighter. I just wish he had proven it clearly on the night.

Those who backed Groves deserve praise. He put on a performance that was unexpectedly smart and technical. I don't think he won the fight, but I certainly can't argue with the result when my guy simply didn't put a clear stamp (after running his mouth all week about KOs).

Excellent post!

Damn it DeGale!!!! I'm still smarting a bit about it. This result turned my whole weekend upside down. Just another lesson to not spread myself too thin.

My assessment is that DeGale won the fight, but Groves deserved it, if that makes any sense.... Not really to me either, but Groves certainly had the crowd and energy behind him, and that does make a difference. He overachieved when DeGale underachieved. I had DeGale 7-5, and there was even 1 round I gave to Groves that I thought DeGale won - but I knew the judges would give it to Groves based on crowd noise alone. Too many close rounds.

I read on a couple forums that DeGale had agreed to give his entire purse - for real - to Groves if he lost. Anyone know if that's true?

I think they should have more 'winner take all' fights. It is 'prizefighting'. Maybe pay each guy a certain amount but reserve a good chunk of cash for the winner. That would create some effort incentive.

Well, it seems to me that this fight proves your premise wrong.

I just rewatched the Groves vs. Degale fight.

My 2 cents!
I pretty much agree with what was said before.
As somebody who had money on DeGale it was kind of frustrating to watch. I would say that it was DeGales fight to lose! Groves fought the perfect fight, and DeGale...he should have just been a little more agressive! I had DeGale by one point, but I certainly cant argue with the scores. Not a good attitude from DeGale! He really has to rethink his approach!!!

hmm...what do you guys think about Harrias @+600!?

Thompson is pretty slow and pretty old as well...Harris on a decent comeback....and he defeated the Tiger before in an exhibition!

I havent watched Harris last few fights! I assume he looked pretty decent! Any input would be much apreciated!

I'm glad that I already put some money on Harris!

Next time "I don't like getting hit hard" Mosley "appears" in the squared circle, that would be quite appropriate.
