When I saw the line come out on McCall-Hoppa I jumped on McCall forthwith. Impulse/hunch type of thing. Also, it's at the Orleans; $25 tickets so I just may go. Hoppa has been beating up tomatoe cans. Mc Call, as we all know, sees the same therapist as Cintron, so who knows what can happen.

I'm on it frankie. IMO the 44 yr McCall takes the Samoan to school. Hopa may have good power (Brewster commented on fightnewS) but hE is out of his league. I feel he needs to ko McCall and that aint happening. I thought the line was too good to be true.

I'm also building up on Floyd and Berto. Berto has good speed and he can box pretty well when he wants to. Berto is stronger and more durable than Hatton and Hatton handled Urango fairly well. If floyd loses to an aging and blown up Marquez then I'm giving this sht up...not really but you get my drift. Is anybody taking Marquez? No question JMM is an all time great but not at 143 and not even at 135. 2 tough fights with a somewhat shot Casa and a limited Juan Diaz is enough for me to lay the wood on this one. Floyd is just in another league.

I wasnt going to touch the seniors tour tourney but maybe I'll bet against the white guy on the far left, blue trunks. Who is that??? I don't like to put down fighters but the guy does a mean impression of the Pillsbury Dough Boy.

I've got a feeling that is Neil Simpson, Romi, though I cannot be 100 % sure.

I wasn't too sure about Berto-Uranus(sic), but I just want to parlay something with Angulo, so maybe Berto is the ticket. Urango looks like a stone killer, but his boxing skills are lacking. Also, as I mentioned, the extra weight does NOTHING to help Marquez as far as I can see. It is a benefit to FM, though. I think a nice 4 teamer might be Berto/Angulo/Klitschko/Mayweather.

looks like a winner....the only one that i`m stone cold sure about is mayweather, strangely enough...my concern would be that the other 3 opponents all have the proverbial "puncher`s chance"...

only takes one...but i think you might hit it...

Is anybody taking Marquez?
Hey Romi, only guy I run into that is on Marquez is Doug Fischer of TheRingOnline. Well, he is not really on Marquez but sees that as a 50/50 fight. Check out his recent mailbags and see his take. He was initially on Floyd but 2 of his friends who are Maquez brothers biggest fans in the world got him thinking with a question "How exactly Floyd wins this fight?".

BTW I'm on Floyd also. :)

I managed to find it:

"Regarding Mayweather-Marquez, when I heard the fight was taking place over 140 pounds, I had the same thought you did, that it?s no longer a fight. It?s just Marquez and his people cashing out. But then I had dinner with Kirk and Darryl -- you?ve read their names in my mailbags and Steve Kim?s frontline diaries; they?re the Marquez brothers? biggest gringo fans -- Friday night, before news of the Saturday press conference broke. I told them what I thought about the ?potential? matchup and Kirk told me not count out Marquez. I said ?Come on, Marquez was pushing it at 135 pounds.? Darryl asked me to explain in detail HOW Mayweather beats Marquez.

I thought about it and thought about it, and the more I did, the more I realized that Mayweather isn?t going to impose himself physically on Marquez or put forth a sustained attack (he never does that, at least not to an intelligent world-class fighter), so the weight isn?t that much of a factor. The best I could come up with was that ?Mayweather will be faster at 144 pounds and he?ll beat Marquez to the jab and then avoid getting hit for the rest of the round; he?ll repeats this every round.?

Darryl reminded me that Marquez doesn?t have to weigh-in at 143 or 144 pounds; he could come in at 138, or whereever he felt comfortable. Kirk asked me if Mayweather basically stinking it out was enough to win the fight. Truth be told, even if it is (and it could be), Mayweather is not going to dominate Marquez boxing like that. And I think if Floyd gets a little too froggy, he could get clipped like Joel Casamayor did.

Last year I was all set to pick Casamayor to outpoint Marquez because I figured he was just as experienced and ring savvy, but naturally bigger; plus I thought his chin could take anything Marquez could dish out. Kirk talked me out of picking the Cuban vet and I?m glad he did.

Both Kirk and Darryl talked me out of assuming a Mayweather victory on July 18. Let?s see if you can reason me back to giving Marquez no shot. Tell me how Mayweather beats Marquez. Seriously. I?m curious to hear some detailed reasons from anyone beyond Mayweather?s size and undefeated record."

Ghost, regarding this prizefighter tournament I'm in the dark and don't really like anything.
So many old inactive guys.
I took only Steeds because I like the odds and his activity. Having sad that he opened as a bigger favorite than he is now, so people are putting money on Corbett.
I don't get it, McKenzie is +200 and I would favor him based on boxrec. His opponent Dunstain had 1 fight in last 10 years.

Dunstan was quite good back in the day
he went to jail for 4 years, and is trying to rebuild his career
He is a big puncher, but he was stopped pretty brutally by Carl Thompson years ago
He has been sparring with Rogan and Kevin Johnson recently
He may be too old, but a lot of people are giving Dunstan a good shot today
I am going to parlay Francis and Dunstan
other than that, I'm not quite sure
we had a lot of success last prizefighter tourney old dirty, but the odds are not very nice today

Good luck bro. I'm not touching those two because there is question about both of them. On one forum it's been said that Francis has a bad hand and lack of drive and nobody knows where Dunstan is right know.
It was fun turney last time. Good luck.

Both these insights were proven true
Dunstan too old and old, and the chin cracked
Francis fought with no passion - got knocked down and quit
Huge outside shot Ovill McKenzie wins the cruiserweight prizefighter tourney

ESCOBEDO RETURNS HOME
PRESS RELEASE: Thursday, May 21, at 7:30 P.M., local Olympian and WBC rated #3 Lightweight Vicente Escobedo (20-1-0, 12 KOs) will take on former WBC Featherweight Champion Kevin Kelley (60-9-2, 39 KO) during the world-class Fight Night event at ARCO Arena presented by Maloof Sports & Entertainment, in association with Don Chargin Productions.

Escobedo is coming off an impressive victory over Carlos Hernandez by unanimous decision in Austin, Texas on April 4. He is currently riding an 11-fight win streak and has not lost since a split decision to then undefeated Daniel Jimenez at ARCO Arena in April 2006.

?I?ve been training with Vicente every day preparing for my fight against Floyd Mayweather,? said current Lightweight Champion Juan Manuel Marquez. ?Vicente could be fighting for the world lightweight title in less than a year.?

I will be at this fight tomorrow. Not a great card, but it is in my home town of Sacramento, California and you can't beat $20 ticket for lower level seats. I think Escobedo knocks out the 42 year old Flushing Flash in this one, but I hope it is an exciting fight while it lasts. :)

True, I think Escobedo might carry Kelly a few rounds to make it interesting, but Escobedo is not much of a finisher.
