You know, Romi, this was like Kirk Johnson vs Vitali Klitschko all over again. People were giving Johnson a decent shot at the upset and then he came in seriously over his best fighting weight, a bit like Mo Harris last night, and of course he was out of the fight early. Why do heavyweights do this? Harris was two fights away from a championship opportunity and he came in soft and just not ready to fight, like a man who was waiting to get knocked out. I mean, you would have expected Harris to be in the best possible shape and ready to put up the fight of his life in his last chance at glory. I guess the term "born loser" applies in a case like this.
I remember the fight well. Vit was not a huge favorite prior to the weigh in but he got slammed as soon as Johnson weighed in. Johnson never amounted to anything after that. I think it goes back to the mental aspect and the fear of success. Some guys simply don't prepare 100% because they have an inner fear that even at their physical best, they still may not be good enough. Then they can rationalize to themselves that they could have won, had they only been in shape. The sport is littered with a long long list of those kind of fighters.
Nice to see that Arreola thinks more of himself than that. Not too long ago he was being written of as one of these guys. He's still got some work and proving to do, but he deserves props for taking himself seriously.
Nice capping on an off week Romi. Two solid over plays with the Konecny and McDonnell fights. Steep fare but good sensible plays.
