The week starts a bit early with Mundine in the wee hours Wednesday.
Interesting battle between Mabuza and Perez in South Africa Friday.
No ESPN FNF next week (they are taking a week off), but there is a SKY fight Friday.
Saturday is HUGE with Berto/Urango, Angulo/Cintron, and a massive card in Finland headlined by Chagaev/Valuev 2.

I've seen Mabuza fight a few times but I'm not real familiar with Perez. Will do some checking myself, but I'd appreciate any information or opinions from the rest of the crew

Looks like another action packed week ahaed of us!!! :0corn :)

Chagaev Valuev over looks like a lock here.

Unfortunately, the bookies agree...

I'm really looking forward to Berto vs. Urango.
This figures to be a competetive action packed fight.
Urango was a beast at 140 lbs, but sometimes those 7 lbs extra weight can make all the difference...

early shots:

I have some money on some dogs e.g. Daniel Geale, Juan Urango... (small maybe add more)

+ some money on a nice Parlay some dogs +
Alfredo Angulo and Nikolay Valuev/Ruslan Chagaev Over 10?

+ a BIG bet on Nikolay Valuev/Ruslan Chagaev Over 8,9,10?

Hope that those bets will work. :toast:

I like Chagaev straight to win, although I notice people have been betting that somewhat heavily and the odds are worsening.

Most rematchs end in the same result, and I don't think Valuev has improved enough (if at all) to beat Chagaev.

Ruslan Chagaev -110

seems to bet still ok

I thought Chagaev looked horrendous against the Caribbean fighter he recently met. I'm not certain he deserved that nod. But Valuev looked like he was in quicksand against the "old Deal." I need to examine this more closely.

Chagaev looked pretty bad against an amateur in Drummond. Chagaev was winning but he looked horrendous. We lucked out with the cut and hit the under. I could be wrong but I think it was the fight where the doctor overruled the ref and said the fight can continue. Without the cut, it was probably going the distance. Valuev looked equally bad if not moreso v Oldy.

These 2 are as evenly matched as it gets. I can't see giving either one an advant over the other. The over and perhaps a possible draw would be the only 2 value plays IMO.

Chagaev has looked horrible against Drummond , I don't believe this had anything to do with the cut either , maybe just rusty or maybe something else ?!
Valuev sucks and we all know that but I have a weird feeling that Chagaev just wants none of him for the second time . There has been a lot of talk about Chagaev trying to duck Valuev who looked pretty bad against Holyfield but atleast it was the former champ and not a guy like Drummond .
With a gun to the head I would say Valuev is the safer choice because he always does his thing and it works most of the time . I am not really sure about Chagaev , he only had 2 fights in the last 2 years and didn't look in good shape against Drummond . Also winning a decision over Matt Skelton doesn't impress these days either since he has been stopped in the next two fights after Chagaev by freaking Paolo Vidoz and Martin Rogan ...

Maybe you guys are right about Chagaev...I never saw the Drummond fight. Then again...maybe these guys just phone it in when they have a soft opponent...are these fights really indicative of their full ability at present? I expect both Chagaev and Valuev will look better against each other than they did against Drummond/old man Holyfield. I just think Chagaev has the tools to beat Valuev if he puts any kind of effort into it. Or maybe his medical shit/ring rust will prevent him from doing so?

I think Chagaev looked bad against Drummond because of his injury and his long break.

But I dont see any excuses for Valuev, he just sucked against Holyfield.

I expect Chagaev to up his game, but I'm not sure that Valuev can do the same (he's 35).

The one thing that concerns me is Valuevs marketability and Vitaly's desire to fight him.

One thing that really worries me about Chagaev is the so-called mystery illness he had a while back. This is believed to have been hepatitis, which I am told stays in the system for a long time. Kramden was spot-on about Chagaev against Drummond: this was a life and death fight for Chagaev, and one he looked like losing. Chagaev's first fight with Valuev was very close, and I had Chagaev ahead only by 115-113. While Valuev looked terrible against Holyfield, I have been told that Valuev never really wanted that fight and was concerned about a negative reaction if he hurt the great old warrior. The might be a grain of truth in this, because Valuev certainly fought like someone who didn't want to hurt his opponent. I am with Kramden in that this fight needs a very close look before any triggers are pulled on a wager but I am starting to lean Valuev's way.

@Fightwriter
When was he supposed to have had hepatitis?!
It's true, he hasnt looked as impressive in his last two fights, but he hasnt been very active lately, and both fighers were easy to look past.

But quite frankly, when was the last time that Valuev looked impressive, I thought he looked worse in the second Ruiz fight than in the first, and against Holyfield he was horrible, maybe he didnt train the way he used to (he was very light, whatever that means), but I dont think he carried Holy, he just couldt deliver....

there is an interview on www.boxing.de
(its in german)
Chagaev said, that he feels a lot better than last time and that he had a great preperation with guys like Donald and Julius Long, his heel is fine and he feels disrespected that they (the WBA) made Valuev the champion even though he beat him.

BTW, I pick Chagaev to win by decision, but I agree with you, this fight is very hard to predict.
