Angulo rehydrated to all of 159, whereas Cintron to 169. Perro was clearly not well with no energy. Showed up to the East Coast on the day of the weigh in... should have bagged the fight since there was a main event. Berto a little too cocky for my liking, plenty of holding while he chats with the HBO crew during the fight after bringing up a plodder from 140. Actually starting to build some respect for Cintron, he's got an angel overlooking him with the Draw against Martinez and catching a sick Perro. He did box well and landed some bombs. He was probably getting hammered with plastered hands from Margacheato so maybe he's getting a deserved break. Didn't he lose both parents by the time he was a young teen- good for Kermit.

Cintron fought a great fight - absolutely the best he could do, and it was just enough
But after the Martinez debacle, and now a sick Angulo - I gotta agree with you punch
This guy has some sort of guardian boxing angel guiding his career

Gotta give Cintron credit. It looked like he was showing some give in the last few rounds but he fought back and survived - and did enough to win. Solid effort. In a 15 rounder Angulo may have got him but we don't do those anymore. Angulo had trouble with Cintron's movement and was just a step slow for much of the fight. Judging by this, and other bouts in this division, I think James Kirkland would have rolled Perro and Cintron and probably everyone else.. I really hope he gets out. It's so unfair the Feds are making him rot in prison.

I like Andre Berto but I thought he stunk it out last night. Sure, he won but he fought in spurts and bided way too much time by holding. He kind of followed the Hatton blueprint and it was unsatisfying. I thought Berto would do better than that.

I'll second that. Bar none he's my favorite fighter. Not sure if he's the best in the division but without question the most exciting fighter in all of boxing. He'd steamroll Angulo and Kerm. I think the only guy that gives him trouble would be Williams and I'm not convinced PW could take those shots and pressure. I can't wait til he gets out and hopefully we're talking mnths and not yrs.

BTW did anybody catch the odds on Kerm by dec? That must have been a pretty good number.

As soon as I saw the fight-night weights I sensed a problem. Then, when the HBO guys were talking about Angulo possibly having trouble making weight, and feeling under the weather, the alarm bells REALLY started ringing. I guess that the Angulo people thought that their guy could, even if a bit below-par, suck it up and eventually break down Kermit. If so, they got it badly wrong. Angulo just couldn't seem to kick into the extra gear that he needed to take command; he couldn't seem to summon the extra energy and forward drive. (In Britain we'd call him "one-paced".) In the end Angulo needed the sort of break in the scoring that Kermit got in the draw with Martinez. A draw in this fight would not have been the worst decision I have ever seen, but the winner won. I give Cintron props. He boxed a good, smart, quite gutsy fight. This fight makes you wonder yet again about Margarito and those illegal hand wraps. Cintron got hit by some good punches to body and head last night and never seemed to be in that much trouble.

sick or not, angulo is a very limited fighter....he`s not margarito.....

he`s gonna take some severe beatings during his career....this weight class is is full of killers....cintron is one of the lesser evils...

he`s gonna have to be matched carefully...

Exactly.
Sick or not, he showed no ability to cut off the ring.
He followed Cintron in circles all night - he made Kermit look like Floyd, Jr. !
:mj07:

I kept waiting for him to throw a few elbows, push Kermit into a corner, unload a few body shots in a row. But it was simply one off balance punch after another, and then following, getting jabbed, following.

Cintron had a very good game plan. Which I expected he would try to impliment. What I did not expect is for him to be able to continue the gameplan successfully for 12. And he did.

I said before the fight there was no way Kermit could KO Angulo moving backwards all night. Well, he did move backwards all night and he couldn't KO Angulo.

But what he DID do was box circles around El Perro. He was much faster and smarter than Angulo. And the few times there were toe to toe exchanges, Cintron punched right back HARD and kept moving. He fought the best I have seen him fight.

It pains me to say this - I really can't stand the guy. But Kudos to Kermit Cintron. Earned himself some respect and another big pay day.

There seems no question, in my mind, that Margarito loaded his gloves for years. Let's see how Cotto responds to shots from Clottey.

I'm not ready to close the doors on Angulo just yet but before last night I would have wagered the farm on him over Spinks. That fight was talked about if Angulo won last nght. Now I'd have to favor Spinks. Perhaps he was sick and it would certainly explain his lackluster showing. It's a tough decision by the manager to cancel but when you are in there with a dangerous guy like kerm, they should have canceled the fight. Angulo is rather green with just 16 fights. There is still much room for improvement. I doubt if HBO is going to want him unless it's against someone like Kirkland. Back to the drawing board. He needs to get in there with guys that can box a little but aren't too dangerous. It's a learning experience for all us bettors as well. I wouldn't call Kermit exactly seasoned but he had a lot more experience than Angulo and I think NJ is the only one that really caught it.

There was hardly a word about Perro being sick... somebody kept his mouth shut very well, to the point of nobody being able to get hold of the weigh in pics....

sharks....
