You the man Ghost. Me thinks it will be 2 good weeks in a row. Ortiz/Maidana is going to be a barnburner. Let's hope sportsbetting gets back in the game.

What's up w/the HBO cards on Sat? Boxrec is showing they have a show on reg HBO and a PPV on the same night? They couldn't possibly be aired at the same time can they?

The pay per view show isn't HBO PPV, Romi, it's Top Rank putting on one of its independent PPV shows geared to the Hispanic market. That's why the events clash. Isn't it always the way with boxing? No TV fights on Saturday night on two of the last three Saturdays, then two on the same night.

Thx for the clarification Graham. Boxrec has it listed as HBO PPV. Hard to imagine HBO competing w/itself. On a side note, what a STUNNER last night in Arg. That must have been a +1000 dog. After Garay dominated the German last year, I thought this would be easy pickins.

Hi Romi

The Garay result was a stunner. All I can assume is that Garay put on loads of weight after the Braehmer win, got involved in the good life, thought he was in with an overmatched opponent and came into the ring ill-prepared mentally and physically. Meanwhile, Campillo was probably in the best shape of his life and ready to give everything he had.

On paper, there was only one winner here and I didn't bother to preview the bout. I saw Campillo against Karo Murat, and took note that Campillo is a shifty southpaw, clever and smart, and he can be a handful, but Murat edged him out (admittedly in a very close fight) by chasing him and bullying him for long enough moments to make a case for getting the verdict. Even an aging Lolenga Mock was able to pin Campillo on the ropes for long portions of almost every round, and although Mock wasn't hitting much (Campillo blocks punches very well) the old guy was at least making some of the rounds very close and giving the judges in Denmark a reason to give him some rounds.

So, I figured that at the very least Garay, even if he wasn't totally up for the fight, would be able to hustle his way to a decision based on pressure. True, he was meeting a southpaw, but he had beaten southpaws in his last two fights (Barashian and Braehmer), and he practically toyed with Barashian, while he was sharp and fought with great energy against Braehmer --- and I know who I would pick between Braehmer and Campillo. To cap it all, Campillo was moving up from 168 pounds and he had been stopped in Ukraine as a light-heavy by a fighter not known for being a very hard hitter, and the fight was on Garay's home turf.

I can only think that Garay was woefully out of fighting shape last night, and just not into it mentally, either.

Had I previewed the fight I would have gone for Garay by stoppage, not quickly but a wearing-down stoppage in about nine rounds, give or take a round, because Garay is not really a big puncher and I know that Campillo can be elusive and has a tight defence when under fire.

This result came as a major surprise to me, Romi, I have to admit it.

ANOTHER FIGHT POSTPONED!!! According to boxingscene John is ill and his fight with Juarez will be postponed. I hope this doesn't interfere with the Ortiz/Maidana fight but it more than likely will.

:(

seems like with all the pullouts and postponements, fighters dont really have think twice about pulling out

not a big detriment at this time to their careers

John is sick again?!
He was sick last time they fought....what's up with this guy.
My guess is they cancel the card. I heard it is not selling well.
John was supposed to move a lot of tickets due to the Indonesian support in Los Angeles.
Victor Ortiz is going to be a star one day, but nobody knows who he is right now.
Golden Boy should have known this....absolutely stupid to put this fight at Staples Center. This is a smaller card. If they had scheduled it at Home Depot or Nokia Theater, they MIGHT have sold out. Now they risk being completely embarrassed with the turn out. I would be surprised if this goes on.

Fightnews says in a quick blurb that they are looking for Chris John replacement, so perhaps the card can be saved. And it's on free HBO so perhaps they will want to go with it anyway.

It looks like they are looking for a new opponent for Juarez!

Would be a shame if the cancel the whole card!

So Rocky Juarez is out for Saturday... no undercard fight....he turned down Mario Santiago. Can't blame Rocky for turning Santiago down. That's a dangerous opponent short notice.

HBO will still broadcast Ortiz vs. Maidana.
