Mel is a fanatical religious coo coo. His ex wife is "going to hell because she isn't a traditionalist catholic". Good thing he has his own production company because putting down Jews in Hollywood is a career NO NO :nono:. These are just a coupkle things he did besides what he said on the tape the girlfriend made. Nothing 30 days of rehab and some damage control can't mend. The guy has made a mess of his life but he sure can make a movie.

i posted this in general......lol

isn`t it about time fernando montiel got some pfp mention?....somewhere in the top 10?....

these are the records of the last 14 guys he`s been in with...28-1..14-0..21-2...24-0...28-3...35-2......33-1...25-1...22-6..26-0...32-3...29-0...21-1...20-0....

i know records can be deceiving, but,
he was 12-1-1 in those bouts...only 5 were in his home country mexico...and 2 of the wins were over extremely talented fighters in very difficult fights on the road(hasegawa/gorres)... and the loss was in the jhonny gonzales fight in which he was moving up in weight to bantam(to fight a guy who is now a full fledged featherweight).......

he flat out destroyed martin castillo in what was a "superfight" which was basically considered a toss-up at the time....the draw was a technical draw that ended before it could be scored...

now he`s fighting rafael concepcion, who gave donaire one of his absolute toughest fights...very dangerous, loseable fight for montiel...

i remember him stepping up to fight mark "too sharp" johnson as a young guy when nobody wanted anything to do with the guy...

this guy gets absolutely no love,whatsoever......

Yeah, Montiel is a bit special. Well rounded, can box and punch. Had overcome adversity, fought away from home and mixed with a slew of good fighters.

He's now a grizzled vet yet still young enough, and in prime. He will fight the best fights in thenext year and probably fare very well. I like the Daisy Duked Montiel. :142smilie :mj07:

He's the real deal.

Speaking of Montel, in 2005 he fought fighter Ivan Hernandez and incredibly he was underdog. I think he was +130. This was a great bet, many knowledgeable guys back then placed bets on Montel.

""well, that just shows you how differently people see fights...i don`t recall johnson pressing montiel...i remember 2 guys that were way to tentative...of course,it`s been awhile since i watched the fight....that`s what i remember...and i remember montiel going after johnson in the later rounds...when johnson tired..the konockdown was a flash..montiel wasn`t hurt...

i believe part of that was johnson`s lefty stance...as montiel`s draw was also vs a lefty...

montiel is very quick...he`s still very young....he`s used to fighting the mexican style fighter...it`s what he does best..counter...and use angles...

i haven`t seen hernandez...but,i`ve been hearing good things about him.....he may be the next morales....or chavez...or ricardo lopez....

no,he won`t be the next ricardo lopez...lol

but,i`m taking the shot with the experienced montiel...who i always thought was an extremely talented fighter...well rounded...with an excellent resume...

wins over cruz carbajal(t.k.o.4)..pedro alcazar(t.k.o 6...who died shortly after the fight)...heavy punching jose carita lopez(by ud..nobody stops lopez)...he retired unbeaten zoltan lunka in germany(tko 7).....tough isidro garcia(tko 7)...all stoppages other than lopez...

and he has wins over solid peripheral guys like sam lopez and juan domingo cordoba...both stoppages..

look at the resumes of these fighters..excellent..

montiel isn`t just a boxer...he can punch...

maybe hernandez is all that......he`s probably going to be the naturally bigger guy....

.but, beating an old mark johnson just isn`t enough to sway me from not taking the +145 with montiel when it opened...a montiel that was being considered maybe one of the next great mexiacn fighters prior to johnson....

several respected guys think hernandez is very good..maybe he`s to big...

i`ve seen montiel...he`s very good...i can`t explain the johnson loss...some think montiel doesn`t have the stones....

i find that hard to buy considering his resume...

i took the +145....if hernandez is a potential super fighter,maybe i`ll lose..maybe he`s to big.....

.his record other than the johnson win is dubious,at best...and i believe that johnson was close to being shot at this point in his career..i think his people saw hernandez as safe with a big money fight vs luis hernandez in the wings...maybe he overlooked hernandez..

again,i can`t understand what happened to montiel vs johnson...unless it`s just lefties that trouble him...

i couldn`t turn down those odds with a proven champion...a very young, but experienced fighter.....a very well rounded fighter..that`s fighting a guy with a very typical mexiacn style that he`s seen and beaten before....that i`ve seen with my own eyes several times...

going against the odds makers...and some solid cappers...we`ll see...i had to take the shot...

hernandez proves to be a great fighter,so be it....

i can take it....lol""

forgive me for tooting my own horn,guys...i don`t post many big plays any more....i just couldn`t resist...

.humor the old dog...

Welcome Shawn, thanks for the video.

Just read that Top Rank is trying to put together Pavlik/JCC Jr at Cowboys stadium. Really? Chavez only drew 8,000 for his fight against Duddy and I read the ppv numbers were dismal.

Graham revamping the Fightwriter website. I think it's good Graham. You've got enough knowledge, and deserve to make some money for all the work you put in! You certainly help my capping process! :toast:

Thank you Quanah. This will be a work in progress for a while, with various wrinkles to be ironed out. There is new technology that I will have to master (this is a much more complicated site to work with, for me, than the previous one).

The subscription side of the site will not start until July 21. If it all works out, great. If not, at least I will have tried, right?

Graham, you have proven time and time again to be the best in the biz. I look forward to checking out the new version of the site!

As Quanah stated, the vast knowledge you bring to the table, the detail and research you put into your articles, your long time dedication and love for the fight game - I have no doubt this new fightwriter venture will be worth it for you and your readers.

Cheers.

Does anyone else like Lanard Lane over Dallas Jr? Lane just seems like the more agressive, busier fighter. I also like Porter all the way!

i know i`m taking a flyer with ishe smith at those odds...

this kid guerrero has fought mostly out of maryland, missisppi and other southen sites...not exactly hotbeds of boxing....and ishe has a slight height advantage..

ishe`s awfully tough to get out of there....he just needs to up his activity level a bit...not sold that guerrero is as good as that record indicates....

worth a shot...
