Golden Boy really needs some help naming these PPV events.

First, for Mayweather-Mosley the best they came up with was "Who R U Picking?"

Now, they have "Fight of the Year: The Rematch"

Pretty creative stuff

Another funny thing I noticed during the preview show, is Juan Diaz commentating that he is "going to pick it up right where he left off in rnd 9"
:142smilie :142smilie :142smilie

I understand what the Baby Bull was trying to say, but usually guys say that after a controversial 12 rounder. You know, "let's start rnd 13 !"
But I've never heard anyone say they are going to pick up right where the left off - getting knocked cold.

I put this in the wrong thread earlier.

I'm on Marquez Big -330. Diaz fought him VERY tough in the 1st go. He overwhelmed Marqs defense in the early going but wasn't able to keep the pace with Marq getting his nice counters in. I don't think Diaz is the same fighter and don't believe that he can muster the same kind of offense. He said he won't be as careless this time but he NEEDS the volume to have a chance in this. He doesn't carry enough pop to make up for his lack of technique. His technique is to throw punches in bunches and keep his opponent from getting off. His chin is looking a bit unsturdy as well. If Mags can wobble him then he'll get buzzed by punches he doesn't see coming. He's also prone to cuts and he doesn't fight well under adversity. I would see it as a pretty big upset if Diaz pulled it off. I see Marq doing it in easier fashion this time.

I'm also taking a chance with Pirog. I've seen some footage and he's a very well schooled fighter. He's fought tougher comp than Jacobs and has been rather impressive. Jacobs had trouble with Smith and his power doesn't quite match his ko %. If Pirog gets out of the early going unfazed then I think he wins. Lrge +135.

I am on Diaz by 12 rd dec +670 (small) I think if Diaz will win it will be by dec. That being said, Marquez probably will win.
Diaz looked horrible last fight against Pauly, what disturbing is he tried to box and neglected his pressure style. This pressure style earn him everything in boxing and now from being A- pressure fighter he becomes C+ boxer. I don't like this change at all. If he tries to box Marquez it will be brutal punishment to Diaz. I am hoping he and his famous trainer come back to pressure fighting, if not Diaz has no chance.

What weight is this fight at?
Diaz fought Paulie at 140, right?

The fight is at 135, for the WBA and WBO titles. Someone correct me if I'm wrong. I think this is a better weight for both guys, although there may be some variables there.

Great, great weekend on tap. I'm excited to see all the lines.

I agree with you Romi!

I just rewatched Paulie vs. Diaz too. Diaz skills really seem to have deteriorated more than Marquez, even though he is like 10 years younger.
But stil, Marquez is old, he's moving down in weight and coming of a loss as well, so I wont go large on him.

I like Pirog as well. Better ring intelligence, better defence. He really impressed me against Jantuah. He started with the plan to end matters quickly, and when he saw that Kofii wouldnt go away, he changed strategies beatifully and proceeded to outbox his opponent.
There is an interesting article on boxingtalk, where both Pirog and Jacobs are interviewed. Pirog says that hte used to be a chess player and that he likes about boxing that he is the only one, who is responsible.
Tells you somthing about a fighters mental state!

Anyways, you got balls to play Pirog Large, the promotion is indeed a concern (I woulndt count on Pirog stopping Jacobs).

I'm thinking about taking the over as well....

I fully agree with your take on Marquez-Diaz Romi.
I was able to grab Marquez at -250 2 months ago.
Diaz isn't pressure fighter he once was and even if he is, his style is made for counter puncher like Marquez.
Guys fighting with pressure style grow old much fighter than counter punchers. Diaz is much younger but I even don't like the way he speaks now for a law degree.
It seems to me that odds are about right but some guys like Doug Fischer thinks this is a 50/50 fight.

3D Boxing

3D Boxing

First 3D boxing match

Another technology first for Universum. Some of the fights on Saturday?s card at the o2 World Arena in Hamburg will be presented in 3D. Special 3D cameras will beam the action into the 3D Lounge at the o2 World for a select group, however this will not be visible on the live ZDF telecast. ?Boxing is ideally suited for 3D,? said promoter Klaus-Peter Kohl. ?We had two trial runs during gym sparring sessions. It?s an incredible experience. It was like you were in the ring too. This wouldn?t work so well in other sports, in football and Formula 1 you?re too far away. This is the future! I am very pleased to present the first 3D fight on July 31st.? The bouts selected for 3D are the main event with Sebastian Zbik, as well as the bouts featuring Juan Carlos Gomez, Jack Culcay and Arthur Matern.

Why was Povetkin dropped?

Why was Povetkin dropped?

I'm curious as to WHY Alexander Povetkin was suddenly dropped from the IBF ratings, and the fight with Wlad was scrapped? I don't have any respect for any of the rating bodies and nothing they do surprises me, but he was the number 1 contender forever. Now, just a couple months away from a signed title fight, he is suddenly dropped from the ratings entirely, and now Wlad is facing Sam Peter.

I think Povetkin would have taken a beating anyhow, but I never heard anything about why this was done.
