fightnews is not the last word.
the guy in the ring said that the title is still vacant how is this possible if reyes was dq ? It isnt.

This is a pretty interesting case.

Maybe odessa comes around and clears things up.

It is def not over yet imo.

this case was a little different than the Lorenzo case
Lorenzo had taken quite the beating before the Cortez DQ

in this fight, the behind the head shot was clear, but they gave him 10 or 15 minutes to recover
nothing had happened on the fight at all

the ref and the doctor told Hinojosa it was time to continue...but that bastard and his cornerman got together...and next thing you know he is laying down on a stretcher

first class acting job....heath ledger got nothing on this clown

He was fine and refused to continue...it should be an NC

or give him a loss and the academy award

This is disgusting. Yes, Reyes was stupid to hit the guy on the back of the head, totally no need for it, but no way on God's earth should Hinojosa get a "win" like that. Hinojosa was looking for a DQ right from the start. He obviously went to the Luis Santana, Francisco Lorenzo school of acting. ... It is not automatic that a fighter gets a DQ win if he is apparently unable to continue due to a foul. It all depends whether the referee and commissioners feel the foul was truly disabling and/or whether they feel it was intentional. ... Mike Tyson hit Orlin Norris with a punch on the break that ALSO landed after the bell, but the Nevada commissioner Marc Ratner instructed the referee that it should be a no contest -- I think the commission view was that Norris was looking to cop a DQ win and Tyson was obviously on his way to knocking the guy out ... Robert Guerrero escaped with a technical draw under California rules when he hit a guy named Julian Rodriguez on the break and Rodriguez went down as if he had been hit by a falling Redwood. Then there was Riddick Bowe hitting Buster Mathis when Mathis was down in their Atlantic City fight. The ref wanted to DQ Bowe but was overruled by NJ commissioner Larry Hazzard, who saw it as an accidental foul but also almost certainly took into account the fact that Mathis was going to get knocked out anyway. ... It just isn't right that a boxer who seems on his way to losing can back into a so-called win like Hinojosa was trying to do. Sure, none of us know how badly Hinojosa was affected, but this smacked of a Santana/Lorenzo Oscar-winning job. What a travesty. Hinojosa should not be allowed to get the win, but right now the result seems to be up in the air.

Once again another great argument to have instant replay for the powers to be to review and come up with a just decision. At this point I'll be shocked if they give Hinajosa the win. It will be a huge slap in the face to boxing...not to mention my wallet:scared

Exactly Graham...it would be rewarding a guy for a con job

They simply can't do it....it would promote further behavior like this

that blow was:
illegal - yes
damaging to the point of calling the fight - hell no !

NO WAY !
How bout the corner guy rubbing his back, whispering to him, and the next thing you know he goes from his knee to his back

OH PLEASE....WHAT A JOKER...a disgrace to REAL FIGHTERS

If it wasnt intentional and Hinajosa turned his head as somebody mentioned, how can they rule a DQ???

You don't want instant replay for this one Romi as he was blatantly fouled BUT, he had complained about 3 non-existant fouls in less than 2 minutes before he actually got hit with a real foul and the ref was buying his shite.

They seemed to announce a no-contest due to an illegal blow with the title staying vacant.

It showed the faker being taken away on a stretcher and then went to commercial break.
When they came back, another fight was in progress.

I do not speak Spanish but I had the sense that the commission told the MC that the title is now vacant but that they were going to review the matter and issue a verdict at a later date. The commission chief, Don Hazelton, is a veteran fight guy who, I think, knows what's what. If Hazelton took the view that Hinojosa was faking, this will be a no decision. Maybe they are waiting to get the report from the hospital. The trouble is, it is like someone whose car was rear-ended at a stop sign. Of course, if they are of a cunning disposition, they are going to say that they are in agony from the neck down and try to get some sort of alleged whiplash-injury compensation. If someone says they are in agony and immobilized, and they are good actors, what is a doctor supposed to do? A doctor cannot get inside the alleged victim's body. I do think that the doctor at Miccosukee was trying to encourage Hinojosa to continue. I know a lot us had Reyes in parlays but the "under" props also took some action. I think that if it takes a while for a decision to come down, the books might just call this "no action". I would think that what the books gained on parlays might have been counter balanced by losses to the books on "under" plays, so it might be a no brainer just to void all wagers.

where we might have a problem here is NO OFFICIAL VERDICT was announced in the ring beyond "title vacant"

usually, for betting sites, the verdict in the ring is the final verdict, regardless of later reversals

but here we have a fight where no verdict was announced in the ring
bizarre cirmcumstances

Anyone rational person would see this as an NC

Boxing, at times, is far from rational....as we have seen

Hinajosa had tied Reyes left hand up with Reyes almost behind him. When Hinajosa would not let go, Reyes winged a right hand, Hinajosa seemed to know it was coming and turned his head. Instead of the punch hitting him behind the ear, it hit him at the base of the neck.

That was all the opportunity he needed.

Good info. Hope the commission does the right thing.

Very strange though that these circumstances always seem to happen with big favorites such as Soto and Reyes

It makes sense I guess...a severely overmatched opponent looking for a way out....better than getting KO'ed....
and Lorenzo and Hinojosa were both veterans who maybe knew "I don't have it tonight-this guy is going to beat my ass-let's pack it in"

agonizing for gamblers....never EVER a dull moment!
I was so proud of myself for staying away from the tough fights tonight

thought I would cruise with Reyes and just have to sweat tomorrow

but the gambling gods make you sweat every moment....literally EVERY moment

:scared

weepaul's key phrase
"when Hinojosa would not let go"

Reyes lose his temper, but Hinojosa created the whole situation...he was complaining endlessly the entire round...and it was the first freaking round !

just added up what I have on Reyes, and I will be one unhappy camper if this thing is scored a DQ

the other infuriating part of this is the money being held up either way

i would like to play some of it tomorrow - but if it means having to wait for an NC

I'll wait as long as it takes - behavior like that should be penalized, not rewarded

now fightnews has it
Reyes-Hinojosa: No Contest!

Friday night?s bout between Jose ?El Gallo? Reyes (23-5, 8 KOs) and Efren ?El Huracan? Hinojosa (29-5, 17 KOs) ended in a no contest at the Miccosukee Resort and Gaming in Miami. Reyes hit Hinojosa in the back of the head at the end of round one and Hinojosa went to the canvas for several minutes. He was eventually taken from the ring on a stretcher. Despite the fight-ending foul, the bout was ruled a no contest.
