Well MSU doesn't really have any contact with him other than what's happened recently... and after all this is over with, I doubt anyone sees or hears much from him anymore

Betone - There's a lot of question marks out there right now and it basically comes down to whether or not Cecil is telling the truth or comes clean...

Heard it from a unreliable source that what is in fact going on is that Cam Newton and Cecil Newton are involved with a sting operation, which was headed up by the FBI and with the involvement of the NCAA to catch agents/boosters trying to buy and sell players and Rogers was a small target in the investigation, the NCAA will use it to do something about agents paying players, and Rogers or maybe somebody up the chain will go down hard... Press conference sometime in the next week or so...

It will be the subject of a 40 for 40 on ESPN in 10 years and the TV ratings will sky rocket for Iron Bowl, SEC Championship and National Championship...Best ratings in 15 years, and a bunch of people in broadcasting will make an ass load of money....

He is unreliable though...:0corn

Cam Newton: Booster Voicemail Recording May Exist

Cam Newton: Booster Voicemail Recording May Exist

By younglefty

In the biggest story in college football today, there seems to be breaking news every few hours on the Cam Newton saga and the bizarre triangle between Starkville, MS, Auburn, AL, and Gainesville, FL. Now Sparty and Friends adds to the narrative. Sparty and Friends has learned that a Mississippi State booster is purportedly in possession of voicemails directly implicating the Newton family in a pay for play scheme, and that the booster in question is scheduled to meet with the NCAA. Why hasn?t this booster met with the NCAA yet? Apparently, said booster was out of the country last week, and it is not clear at this time whether they are back in the country yet. It is very possible (likely even) that the booster in question is one of the ?two sources? first mentioned in Joe Schad?s report, and since reiterated ad nauseum by every outlet reporting on this story.

Let?s now look at what this means. If this booster is actually in possession of incriminating voicemails originating from the Newton family, this is the end of the road for Cameron Newton at Auburn, and, by extension, Auburn?s quest for the national championship. This much is certain, and everyone can draw that conclusion on their own. One aspect that has gone largely ignored, however, is the fact that these voicemails represent improper contact between a booster and a recruit. Per NCAA rules, a booster is not allowed to contact a prospect in an attempt to recruit or encourage attendance at a certain school. This includes telephone contact, letters, emails, and faxes. These same restrictions for booster contact extend to families of recruits. If (and I must stress if) this Mississippi State booster is in possession of voicemails from the Newton family, then that, in and of itself, constitutes a NCAA recruiting violation for Mississippi State. Even if the booster (or anyone from the MSU program) refused to participate in a pay for play scheme, the contact itself is still impermissible.

Now that all of that is out of the way, let me say this. This new development does not directly implicate Auburn University in any pay for play scenario, and is certainly not a smoking gun. All this information tells us is that the Newton family was (purportedly) in contact with MSU boosters (which violates recruiting regulations), and that the Newton family (purportedly) solicited inducements in exchange for Cameron Newton?s attendance at Mississippi State University. Additionally, we now know that the NCAA is (purportedly) aware of these facts, and is actively seeking to speak with the booster in question.

In summation, this information does not bring this matter any closer to immediate resolution. This information does, however, serve to peel another layer off of the onion that is the Cameron Newton saga. If these purported voicemails are authentic, they will have a resonating effect not only for Cameron Newton and Auburn, but for Mississippi State as well.

The NCAA met with the Newton?s yesterday (and their lawyer) and they met with Chizik and Jacobs last night. Apparently Cecil Newton is not going to come out of this looking like a pillar of the community, but we?ll see. My understanding is that he didn?t do anything wrong, but there is an appearance issue.

As far as Auburn is concerned, look for the NCAA to completely exonerate Auburn from any problems. Newton should be cleared as well and will be eligible to play. There was a report on ITAT today that after the NCAA meeting last night Chizik was all smiles.

MSU and the SEC have a serious problem however, and it may not go away. The NCAA was really ticked about all the leaks from the SEC office, and apparently MSU was not as forthcoming with their reporting as may have been indicated. The relationship between MSU, Bond and Rogers is going to be a serious problem for them going forward though. Plus there may be an issue with MSU coaches doing a little creative recruiting. I?m not so sure about that though.
