Foligno, Bobrovsky lead Blue Jackets past Rangers 7-5

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) Nick Foligno scored twice, Sergei Bobrovsky returned from a team suspension and stopped 22 shots and the Columbus Blue Jackets held off a late surge and defeated the New York Rangers 7-5 Sunday night.

Cam Atkinson and Artemi Panarin each had a goal and an assist, Ryan Murray had two assists and nine other players picked up points in the offensive explosion for Columbus. But, two goals by the Rangers late in the third period turned it into a closer game.

The Blue Jackets have won four of the last five, despite being terrible on the power play. They managed the wild victory over the Rangers despite coming up empty on five power plays.

Mats Zuccarello had two goals, and Ryan Stome, Chris Kreider and Jimmy Vesey also scored for the Rangers. Alexandar Georgiev, spelling starter Henrik Lungqvist on the second night of a back-to-back, had 33 saves. New York has lost six of its last seven games.

Anthony Duclair, Lukas Sedlak and David Savard also scored for the Blue Jackets, and Bobrovsky - who had been benched for Thursday's game for violating a team policy and didn't play in Saturday's overtime win over Washington - wasn't terrific, but held off the Rangers after they pulled the goalie for a sixth skater late in the game.

ISLANDERS 5, LIGHTNING 1

NEW YORK (AP) - Casey Cizikas and Cal Clutterbuck each had a goal and an assist, Thomas Greiss stopped 38 shots, and New York beat league-leading Tampa Bay.

Brock Nelson, rookie Devon Toews and Josh Bailey also scored as New York had three goals in the opening five minutes and went on to get their 11th win in 14 games. Matt Martin had two assists to give each player on the Islanders' fourth line two points.

Ryan McDonagh had a goal and Andrei Vasilevskiy finished with 23 saves for Tampa Bay, which was 18-1-1 in its previous 20. The Lightning - the NHL leaders in wins (35), points (72) and road wins (16) - lost in regulation for just the ninth time this season, but second in the last five games.

JETS 4, DUCKS 3, OT

WINNIPEG, Manitoba (AP) - Bryan Little scored at 4:49 of overtime as Winnipeg beat Anaheim and extended the Ducks' losing streak to a franchise-record 11 games.

Blake Wheeler, Patrik Laine and Ben Chiarot also scored and Connor Hellebuyck made 28 saves to help the Jets improve to 5-2-0 in their last seven games. They have won four straight at home.

Brian Gibbons, Rickard Rakell and Andrew Cogliano scored and John Gibson stopped 30 shots for the Ducks. They are 0-7-4 during the skid.

HURRICANES 6, PREDATORS 3

Sunday?s game was 38-7 at one point, so final score is misleading; Nantz/Romo emptied their bag of filler material, talking about everything except the PGA Tour, which might?ve been more interesting than some of the stuff they did talk about.

2) Saints 20, Eagles 14? Philly led 14-0 early, but Saints scored on a drive extended by a fake punt, and they controlled the game from that point on. New Orleans outgained the Eagles 420-250; Philly has a very interesting offseason ahead of it. What to do about Nick Foles?

Saints? WR Michael Thomas is really good; he was the 6th WR taken (47th player overall) in the 2016 NFL Draft, which is why the draft is so damn interesting. Inexact science.

The Pittsburgh Penguins and the San Jose Sharks are two of the highest scoring teams in the NHL but the Under is 7-2-1 in the last 10 meetings between these sides.

The Colorado Avalanche are going through their worst stretch of the season ? but past trends suggest the Avs might be able to turn things around as they visit Toronto to kick off an interesting week of hockey action. There are plenty of great matchups on the early-week schedule, including a showdown between two of the league's hottest teams in San Jose, and an Eastern Conference series that has been one-sided lately. Here are the top games and betting tips to monitor over the next few days.

No home team advantage here

A midseason swoon has the Colorado Avalanche scrambling to remain in the Western Conference playoff picture entering Monday's showdown with the powerhouse Maple Leafs. The Avs are a miserable 3-10-3 SU over their past 16 games to tumble all the way down to 28th in overall money earned at -10.30 units. But the road team has dominated this matchup in the post-lockout era, winning 11 of the previous 15 encounters. The teams have combined for six or more goals in six of their past seven meetings, as well, so bettors should consider the Over.

Good Luck, Goalies

Two of the highest-scoring clubs in the NHL will do battle Tuesday night at SAP Center as the Pittsburgh Penguins visit the San Jose Sharks. The Penguins rank fourth in the league in goals per game at 3.56, a fraction ahead of fifth-place San Jose (3.55). And both sides have been even more prolific in January, ranking first (4.67) and third (4.50), respectively, entering the week. That being said, the Pens and Sharks have scored more than five combined goals just twice in their previous eight meetings ? but can you really ignore the video-game numbers these teams are putting up?

Jekyll and Habs

The Montreal Canadiens have been truly consistent in their inconsistency when matching up against the Florida Panthers, making it difficult to predict which version will show up for Tuesday's encounter between the two teams at Bell Centre. The Canadiens have won four of the previous seven meetings with the Panthers, and scored a whopping 20 goals in those victories. But Montreal was a completely different team in the three defeats, failing to score in any of them. We like the latter iteration to show up Tuesday night, with the Canadiens entering the week with a league-low 10 goals so far this month.

Philly Chilly vs. Bruins

The Philadelphia Flyers have sunk to the bottom of the Eastern Conference standings ? and things likely won't get any better for them Wednesday night as they host the surging Boston Bruins. Philadelphia has been the worst value play in the league to date (more on that later), and has lost five of its previous six encounters with the Bruins, who come into the week having won nine of their previous 12 games overall. Goal scoring has been a major problem for the Flyers in that span, as they've finished with two or fewer goals on four occasions while being shut out twice.

Goalie Profile: Henrik Lundqvist, New York Rangers

One of the greatest goaltenders of the 21st Century might be nearing the end of his sensational career ? at least if his recent struggles are any indication. Henrik Lundqvist has been unspeakably bad for the better part of a month, allowing four or more goals in eight of his previous 11 games. Things are so bad for the Swedish superstar that the Rangers opted to give him a "mental break" over the weekend.

The Lightning have been fortunate from a health perspective this season ? but they're holding their breath after losing star defenseman Victor Hedman to injury over the weekend. Hedman left Sunday's 5-1 loss to the New York Islanders after colliding with an official; he didn't return, but head coach Jon Cooper said after the game that Hedman didn't go through the league's concussion protocol. Hedman has 29 points in 39 games this season with the Lightning, who are 5-2-0 SU and 4-2-1 O/U in the seven games Hedman has missed in 2018-19.

Is it better goaltending or wasted offensive chances? Whatever the case, non-overtime games have been a boon for Under bettors of late, cashing at nearly a 60-percent clip over the previous seven days (25 of 42). The Under has been converted in 57.4 percent of non-OT contests over the past month.

If you do want to take your chance on an Over play, you can't do much better than choosing games featuring Chris Rooney. The veteran referee has 24-13 O/U record in the 37 games he has officiated this season, good for a massive +10.72-unit surplus. Teams are averaging nearly 6 1/2 goals per game in Rooney's assignments.

There's quite a battle going on for the worst value team in the NHL. And while the Flyers (-15.16) own top spot entering the week, they're facing a significant challenge from the Panthers, who sit at -15.10. Four other teams are also at -10 or worse on the season: New Jersey (-10.05), Chicago (-10.22), Colorado (-10.30) and Los Angeles (-10.46).

Flyers top Wild 7-4 for 2nd victory in last 11 games

PHILADELPHIA (AP) James van Riemsdyk recorded a hat trick, and Nolan Patrick had two goals and two assists to lead the Philadelphia Flyers to a 7-4 victory over the Minnesota Wild on Monday night.

Wayne Simmonds also had two goals for the Flyers. Carter Hart had 34 saves.

It was just the second win in the last 11 games for Philadelphia, which began Monday with the fewest points in the league.

Jason Zucker, Marcus Foligno, Joel Eriksson Ek and Ryan Suter scored for Minnesota.

The Wild dropped to 0-5-1 against Metropolitan Division teams.

AVALANCHE 6, MAPLE LEAFS 3

TORONTO (AP) - Carl Soderberg had his first career hat trick and Colorado topped Toronto.

Gabriel Landeskog, Mikko Rantanen and Matt Calvert also scored for Colorado, which had lost nine of its last 10 games overall (1-7-2), and seven straight in regulation on the road. Semyon Varlamov stopped 17 shots.

Igor Ozhiganov, Kasperi Kapanen and Mitch Marner scored for Toronto. Frederik Andersen made 32 saves in his return to the starting lineup after missing eight games with a groin injury. Auston Matthews added two assists.

Toronto has lost five of its last seven games and four of five at home.

CANADIENS 3, BRUINS 2, OT

BOSTON (AP) - Jeff Petry scored 15 seconds into overtime, batting the puck out of the air and past Tuukka Rask to lead Montreal to a win over Boston.

Carey Price stopped 41 shots for the Canadiens. Paul Byron scored a short-handed goal, and Brendan Gallagher also scored to help Montreal earn its third victory in four tries.

Rask made 19 saves but lost for the first time in his last six starts. David Krejci scored a power-play goal - with Rask pulled for a 6-on-4 - with just 38 seconds left in regulation to send the game into overtime.

Brad Marchand also scored for Boston, giving the Bruins a 1-0 lead about six minutes into the game.

DEVILS 8, BLACKHAWKS 5

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - Kyle Palmieri and Blake Coleman each scored twice, and New Jersey had its biggest offensive game of the season in beating Chicago.

Travis Zajac, Sami Vatanen, Kevin Rooney and Brett Seney also scored as the Devils won consecutive games for only the third time since opening the season with four straight wins. Rookie goaltender Mackenzie Blackwood won for the fifth time in seven decisions.

Patrick Kane scored twice and set up two others for the Blackhawks. Brent Seabrook, Dominik Kahun and Brandon Saad also scored for Chicago, which left goaltenders Cam Ward and Collin Delia defenseless most of the game in giving up at least seven goals for the fifth time this season. The eight goals against tied the most given up by the Blackhawks this season.

BLUES 4, CAPITALS 1

WASHINGTON (AP) - Vince Dunn scored his first goal since October, David Perron extended his point streak and St. Louis scored three goals in a five-minute span to beat Washington for its first three-game winning streak of the season.

Dunn banked the puck in on a double deflection for his first goal in 33 games and assisted on Perron's goal with a no-look backhanded pass. Ivan Barbashev and Vladimir Tarasenko also scored.

Perron, who rejoined St. Louis as a free agent in the offseason, has five goals and nine assists during his career-best 11-game point streak.

Jake Allen made 28 saves.

Alex Ovechkin scored his league-leading 33rd goal of the season for Washington, which dropped its second in a row. Ovechkin took over sole possession of sixth in NHL history with his 238th career power-play goal and tied Dave Andreychuk at 14th on the all-time list with the 640th goal of his career.

Capitals backup Pheonix Copley allowed four goals on 37 shots.
