Tuesday's Tip Sheet
Brian Edwards

**Louisiana State at Kentucky**

-- A crucial conference battle will go down night at Rupp Arena. Kentucky (20-3 straight up, 14-9 against the spread) will play host to LSU in a showdown of 9-1 teams who are looking to keep pace with 10-0 Tennessee at the top of the SEC standings. As of early this morning, most books had Kentucky installed as an 8.5-point favorite after most books opened the Wildcats at nine. The total was 149 and LSU was +350 on the money line.

-- Since losing at Alabama in its SEC opener, John Calipari?s team has won 10 consecutive games and has covered the number in eight straight. Kentucky went into Starkville on Saturday and won by a 71-67 count as a 3.5-point road favorite. UK led 40-25 at intermission, only to see that deficit cut to two by the eight-minute mark. But the Wildcats promptly went on a 12-4 run to extend the lead back to 10 and held off a late charge from the Bulldogs. P.J. Washington was the catalyst with 23 points on 9-of-13 shooting from the field. Washington had game-high scoring honors despite fouling out after playing for only 24 minutes. Keldon Johnson added 13 points and seven rebounds, while Tyler Herro finished with 12 points.

-- UK is undefeated in 13 home games with a 7-6 spread record. The ?Cats get four of their next five games at home, including a trip to Lexington from top-ranked Tennessee this Saturday. Does that qualify the ?Cats for a letdown scenario tonight? We shall see.

-- Kentucky is 2-0 ATS in a pair of games as a single-digit favorite.

-- UK is No. 7 at KenPom.com, compiling a 7-2 record against K-Pom Top-50 opponents. The other L?s for the Wildcats have come against Duke (118-84) and Seton Hall (84-83 in overtime) on neutral courts. They have quality home wins over Kansas and Mississippi St., in addition to road scalps at MSU, at Florida, at Auburn and at Louisville. UK also has a neutral-court victory over North Carolina.

-- Washington leads UK in scoring (14.2 points per game), rebounding (8.1 RPG) and 3-point accuracy (44.9%). Johnson is averaging 14.0 points and 5.3 RPG while hitting 40.5 percent of his 3-pointers. Herro (13.3 PPG) is draining 91.8 percent of his free-throw attempts, while Stanford grad transfer Reid Travis is averaging 11.7 points and 7.0 RPG.

-- LSU (19-4 SU, 13-9 ATS) owns a 5-1 record both SU and ATS in six road assignments. The Tigers are 3-1-1 ATS with three outright win in five games as underdogs.

-- Will Wade?s club has won 12 of its past 13 games while going 10-3 ATS. The only loss during this span came two Saturday?s ago in Baton Rouge, where Arkansas came in and pulled a 90-89 upset as a 10-point road underdog. LSU bounced back nicely last week, however, winning 92-88 in overtime at Mississippi St. on Wednesday as a three-point underdog. Then on Saturday, the Tigers held off Auburn 83-78 as 2.5-point home ?chalk.?

-- Naz Reid scored 29 points and grabbed nine rebounds in the win over the Bulldogs at The Hump in Starkville. Tremont Waters produced 26 points, five steals, five assists and four rebounds. Skylar Mays led the way Saturday against Auburn, scoring a team-high 20 points to go with three rebounds, three steals and a pair of assists without a turnover. Waters finished with 19 points, three steals, three boards and 10 assists compared to two turnovers. Reid added 13 points and 10 rebounds.

-- Waters, a sophomore point guard, isn?t as prolific a scorer as LSU legend Chris Jackson, but he can get buckets in bunches and is a better distributor. Waters is averaging team-highs in scoring (15.7 points per game), assists (6.1 APG) and steals (3.0 SPG). He ranks tops in the SEC and third in the nation in steals and is third in the SEC in assists.

-- Reid, the 5-star freshman out of New Jersey, has been ?as advertised.? He is currently listed as the No. 26 overall picks in the latest 2019 mock draft at NBADraft.net. The 6?10? 250-pounder is averaging 13.9 points, 6.2 rebounds and 1.0 blocked shots per game. Mays is scoring at a 13.4 PPG clip, is second on the team in steals with 47 and has a 52/30 assist-to-turnover ratio.

-- LSU is No. 21 at K-Pom, producing a 5-2 record against Top-50 foes. The Tigers are 11-4 versus the Top 100. They?ve lost at Houston and on a neutral court vs. FSU (in OT) and vs. Oklahoma St. LSU?s best wins have come at Misissippi St., at Ole Miss, at Arkansas, vs. Saint Mary?s (neutral court), vs. Auburn, vs. Alabama and vs. Furman.

-- The ?under? is on a 7-2 run for the ?Cats to improve to 14-9 overall and 9-4 in their home games.

-- The ?over? is on an 11-3 roll for LSU to improve to 14-8 overall and 4-2 in its road assignments.

-- ESPN will have the broadcast at 7:00 p.m. Eastern.

**Duke at Louisville**

-- As of early this morning, most books had Duke (21-2 SU, 15-8 ATS) listed as an eight-point favorites with a total of 151.5. U of L was +280 to win outright (risk $100 to win $280).

-- Duke is atop the ACC standings with a 9-1 record in league play. The Blue Devils lead UNC and Virginia bye one-half game, while Louisville and Syracuse are 1.5 games back with 8-3 ACC ledgers.

-- Duke is unbeaten in five road games with a 4-1 spread record. The Blue Devils went into Charlottesville on Saturday night and won 81-71 as 2.5-point underdogs. R.J. Barrett buried 6-of-10 launches from 3-point land and finished with 26 points and seven rebounds. Zion Williamson added 18 points, five rebounds, five assists, three steals and three blocked shots. Cam Reddish went 5-of-8 from downtown in a 17-point effort. Reddish also had three assists, three steals, two blocked shots and two rebounds, while Tre Jones contributed 13 points, seven assists, six boards and two steals.

-- Since dropping a home game to Syracuse in overtime, Duke has won seven games in a row and it has covered in four straight contests. The Blue Devils are No. 1 at K-Pom, going 8-2 versus Top 50 foes. Their only other loss of the year came against Gonzaga in finals of the Maui Classic out in Hawaii. Duke?s best wins have come at Virginia, at FSU (on a Reddish buzzer beater) and vs. Kentucky, Texas Tech and Auburn on neutral floors. The Blue Devils also own home triumphs over Virginia, Indiana, Clemson and St. John?s.

-- Williamson (21.8 PPG) leads Duke in rebounding (9.2 RPG), field-goal percentage (68.4%), steals (2.2 SPG) and blocked shots (2.0 BPG). Barrett is averaging a team-best 23.1 PPG and averages 7.2 rebounds and 3.7 APG. Reddish (13.6) has 47 steals in 22 games played, while Jones (8.7 PPG) has an incredible 117/26 assist-to-turnover ratio.

-- Louisville (17-7 SU, 13-9-2 ATS) has won 12 of its 14 home games while posting a 6-6-2 ATS record. The Cardinals are 1-2 both SU and ATS in three games as home underdogs.

-- Chris Mack had done a remarkable job in his first season as head coach at U of L. He re-tooled the roster with several impact transfers and has seen sophomore Jordan Nwora make a big leap in his sophomore campaign. Nwora averages team-highs in scoring (17.6 PPG) and rebounding (7.6 RPG). Dwayne Sutton is averaging 11.0 points, 7.0 rebounds and 1.1 steals per game, while Samford transfer Christen Cunningham (10.7 PPG) has a 108/42 assist-to-turnover ratio and has hit 39.3 percent of his 3-balls. Steven Enoch, a transfer from UConn, is averaging 9.2 points and 5.0 RPG while draining 42.9 percent his launches from downtown. Ryan McMahon is a deadly 3-point shooter with big-time range. He?s hit 37.9 percent from beyond the arc and made 94.4 percent of his FTAs.

-- Louisville has dropped two of its past three games both SU and ATS, including an 80-75 overtime loss Saturday at FSU as a three-point underdog. U of L led by as many as eight in the first half, by six at halftime and by 10 with less than 10 minutes remaining. However, the Seminoles forced the extra session with a late rally and then put the clamps on the Cardinals defensively in the first three-plus minutes of OT. Cunningham scored 20 points, grabbed seven rebounds and dished out six assists in the losing effort. Sutton added 14 points, six boards and four assists, making 4-of-7 attempts from 3-point territory. Nwora had 13 points and five boards.

-- Louisville is ranked No. 13 at K-Pom, producing a 5-6 record against the Top 50 and a 9-7 mark versus the Top 100. The Cardinals own wins at Va. Tech, at North Carolina and at Seton Hall, in addition to home victories over Pitt, N.C. St., Miami, Michigan St., Vermont and Lipscomb.

-- When these teams met last season in Durham, Duke coasted to an 82-56 win as a 10.5-point home ?chalk?.

-- Totals have been an overall was for the Cards (12-12-2) with the ?over? going 8-6 in their home outings.

-- The ?under? is 15-6-2 overall for the Blue Devils, 3-1-1 in its their road assignments.

-- Tip-off is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPN.

**B.E.?s Bonus Nuggets**

-- Anthony Edwards committed to Georgia over Kentucky on Monday morning. This is a huge recruiting coup for Tom Crean and the Bulldogs. NBADraft.net?s latest 2020 mock has Edwards listed as the No. 1 overall pick.

-- West Virginia?s nightmare campaign got even worse on Monday when Bob Huggins dismissed a pair of starters, Esa Ahmad and Wesley Harris, from the program ?for a violation of athletic department policies.? The Mountaineers, who are 10-14, have already been playing without their best player, Sagaba Konate, since early Decembrer. Konate was averaging 13.6 points, 8.0 rebounds and 2.8 blocked shots per game in the team?s first eight contests. Ahmad was averaging 12.0 points and 5.8 RPG, while Harris was averaging 7.9 points and 4.5 RPG.

-- Wisconsin will host Michigan St. on ESPN at 7:00 p.m. Eastern tonight. As of early this morning, most spots had this game as a pick ?em with the total in the 131-132 range. The Badgers are 9-2 SU and 6-5 ATS at home, while the Spartans are 6-3 both SU and ATS in nine road assignments. Wisconsin had its six-game winning streak both SU and ATS snapped in Saturday?s 61-52 loss at Michigan. The Spartans snapped their three-game losing streak both SU and ATS with Saturday?s 79-55 win over Minnesota as 13.5-point home ?chalk.? The ?under? is on a 7-2 run for Tom Izzo?s squad. The ?under? has cashed at a 7-1 clip for the Badgers in their past eight contests.

-- Bettors should take note of tonight?s early 6:30 p.m. Eastern tip on the Big Ten Network between Maryland and Purdue in College Park. As of early this morning, the Boilermakers were one-point road favorites with the total at 141. The Terrapins are 12-2 SU and 5-8 ATS at home, while Purdue is 3-4 SU and 4-3 ATS on the road. Maryland was in a 1-3 slump both SU and ATS until going to Nebraska last Wednesday and winning 60-45 as a 2.5-point underdog.

TOP 25 THIS WEEK: Big matchups abound in SEC, Big Ten
February 12, 2019
By The Associated Press

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. (AP) It's going to be a big week for the top teams in both the Southeastern and Big Ten conferences.

Eight of the nine ranked teams in the SEC and Big Ten have at least one matchup against a ranked league mate in the week ahead. The list includes top-ranked Tennessee's trip to fifth-ranked Kentucky on Saturday, which is the headlining game on this week's AP Top 25schedule filled with measuring-stick matchups for those conferences' top teams.

''The next two, you have games that are Elite Eight games, Final Four games,'' said Kentucky coach John Calipari, whose surging Wildcats face against No. 19 LSU on Tuesday before hosting the Volunteers. ''That is where we are playing now. Let's see where we are.''

Tennessee (22-1, 10-0 SEC) has spent four straight weeks at No. 1 and hasn't lost since Nov. 23, rolling to a school-record 18 straight wins in a streak that also stands as the longest of Rick Barnes' head coaching career. The Vols host South Carolina (12-11, 7-3) on Wednesday before Saturday's trip to Rupp Arena.

Kentucky (20-3, 9-1) has won 10 straight games entering the matchup with LSU, while the Tigers (19-4, 9-1) have won 12 of 13.

As for the Big Ten, the league has three ranked matchups this week.

On Tuesday, No. 11 Michigan State (19-5, 10-3) visits No. 20 Wisconsin (17-7, 9-4) while No. 12 Purdue (17-6, 10-2) travels to No. 24 Maryland (18-6, 9-4). Then the Terrapins get another challenge when they visit sixth-ranked and league-leading Michigan (22-2, 11-2) on Saturday.

By Sunday, those leagues could have some significant movement atop the standings.

ACC DEVELOPMENTS

Second-ranked Duke now sits alone atop the Atlantic Coast Conference after an eventful few days entering Tuesday's trip to No. 16 Louisville.

That's because the Blue Devils beat No. 4 Virginia on the road Saturday night to secure a season sweep, then the Cavaliers regrouped to stop No. 8 North Carolina's seven-game win streak Monday night. That win allowed Virginia to avoid its first losing streak of any kind in two years as they host Notre Dame on Saturday.

''I think our guys just understood that it was going to take a high-level performance to come away with it,'' Cavaliers coach Tony Bennett said. ''They were ready and they were locked in. I liked how they responded.''

As for the Tar Heels, they had been tied with Duke with its first 9-1 ACC start under Roy Williams before the loss. They were already without sophomore reserve big man Sterling Manley and freshman reserve Leaky Black for the Virginia game, and now head to Wake Forest on Saturday with two new injuries to monitor: freshman Nassir Little left early Monday after rolling his right ankle, while No. 2 scorer Cameron Johnson (15.8 points) missed key minutes late after rolling his left ankle.

''You can't let one game dictate the ones that are to come,'' Johnson said of regrouping from UNC's first loss in nearly a month.

IN THE BIG 12

The Big 12 has one matchup between ranked teams this week: No. 23 Iowa State at No. 18 Kansas State on Saturday.

The Wildcats (18-5, 8-2) are alone atop the Big 12 with a chance to snap Kansas' 14-season run of winning at least a share of the Big 12's regular-season title. They have won eight of nine games entering Tuesday's trip to Texas.

The game will pair an Iowa State attack that ranks 14th nationally in KenPom's adjusted offensive efficiency (117.1 points per 100 possessions) against a defense that ranks sixth in KenPom's adjusted defensive efficiency (88.2).

WATCH LIST

Cincinnati (20-4, 9-2 American Athletic Conference) fell out of Monday's latest poll from No. 25 after a loss to league-leading and ninth-ranked Houston. The Bearcats are the leading vote-getters among unranked teams and could climb back in by beating Wichita State at home Sunday.

Auburn (16-7, 5-5 SEC) peaked at No. 7 in December but has lost four of seven games entering Wednesday's visit from Mississippi, which spent two weeks in the AP Top 25 last month.

Wofford (21-4, 13-0 Southern Conference) hasn't lost since mid-December and can all but wrap up the league's regular-season crown by beating VMI on Thursday, then UNC Greensboro (22-3, 11-1) on Saturday.

LSU beats Kentucky on last-second tip-in
February 12, 2019
By The Associated Press

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) Cam Reddish made a tying 3-pointer with 1:28 left and the go-ahead free throws with 14 seconds remaining, helping No. 2 Duke overcome a 23-point second-half deficit to beat No. 16 Louisville 71-69 on Tuesday night.

After making 2 of 17 shots to open the second half, the Blue Devils (22-2, 10-1 Atlantic Coast Conference) got hot and shut down the Cardinals over the final 9:54. Zion Williamson (27 points, 12 rebounds) ignored foul trouble and instead drew whistles in his favor, making 8 of 9 from the line before Reddish added a couple of 3s in between free throws - the last two of which followed an official review of a play under Duke's basket.

Christen Cunningham tried to tie it for Louisville (17-8, 8-4), but his jumper in the lane bounced off the rim and into Williamson's hands as the final seconds ticked off. The Blue Devils celebrated as they left the court after completing the second-biggest second-half comeback in program history.

No. 19 LSU 73, No. 5 KENTUCKY 71

LEXINGTON, Ky. (AP) - Kavell Bigby-Williams's tip-in at the buzzer lifted LSU to a win over Kentucky.

With the game tied after Keldon Johnson made two free throws with 6 seconds left, Skylar Mays drove the length of the court. His shot missed but Bigby-Williams got the offensive rebound and scored to give the Tigers their first win over the Wildcats since 2009. It was just the sixth time ever that LSU (20-4, 10-1 Southeastern Conference) has beaten Kentucky (20-4, 10-2).

Tremont Waters, who finished with 15 points to lead the Tigers, hit two free throws with 20 seconds left to give LSU a two-point lead before Johnson's free throws tied it.

Naz Reid and Emmitt Williams scored 12 each and Mays had 11 for the Tigers.

PENN STATE 75, No. 6 MICHIGAN 69

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) - Lamar Stevens scored 15 of his 26 points in the first half and grabbed 12 rebounds to lead Penn State to an upset of Michigan.

Penn State pulled away in the first half as its star heated up and Michigan played the second without its coach.

Michigan coach John Beilein received back-to-back technical fouls and was ejected for arguing with officials as the teams entered the locker rooms after the first half.

The usually mild-mannered Beilein appeared to be upset after Penn State guard Jamari Wheeler barreled over Zavier Simpson to free up Rasir Bolton's buzzer-beating layup. Beilein needed to be calmed down by assistants DeAndre Haynes and Saddi Washington as he approached the scorer's table to argue, then again after he was assessed another violation as he was walking away.

Myles Dread chipped in 17 points, hitting five 3-pointers, for the Nittany Lions (9-15, 2-11 Big Ten). The win snapped Penn State's eight-game skid against Michigan.

Charles Matthews scored 24 points and Jordan Poole added 17 for the Wolverines (22-3, 11-3) who never led after the first 2:24.

No. 10 MARQUETTE 92, DEPAUL 73

CHICAGO (AP) - Markus Howard scored 36 points, Sam Hauser had 17 and Marquette cruised by DePaul.

Howard went 12 for 21 from the field and 8 for 10 at the free-throw line in another impressive performance. He has scored at least 30 points in four of his last five games.

Sacar Anim added 12 points as Marquette (21-4, 10-2 Big East) won its second straight game since a disappointing 70-69 loss to St. John's.

It was mostly smooth sailing for the Golden Eagles all night long. Hauser went to the locker room after he was poked in his right eye with 6:51 left, but he returned to the bench to watch the final minute with his jubilant teammates.

Femi Olujobi scored 19 points for DePaul (13-10, 5-7), and Max Strus had 16

No. 11 MICHIGAN STATE 67, No. 20 WISCONSIN 59

MADISON, Wis. (AP) - Cassius Winston scored 23 points to help Michigan State beat Wisconsin.

In doing so, the Michigan State (20-5, 11-3 Big Ten) star outdueled Wisconsin's Ethan Happ, who scored 20 points and grabbed 12 rebounds.

At times, the game seemed like a contest between the two heavyweights as Winston seemed to answer every Happ hook shot with a floater or 3-pointer.

But Wisconsin (17-7, 9-4) staggered at home, going more than five minutes without a point as the Spartans put the game away.

No. 24 MARYLAND 70, No. 12 PURDUE 56

COLLEGE PARK, Md. (AP) - Jalen Smith scored 14 of his 16 points in the second half, and Maryland used a strong defensive performance to beat Purdue, ending the Boilermakers' eight-game winning streak.

Down by eight at halftime, the Terrapins (19-6, 10-4 Big Ten) took the lead for the first time with 10 minutes left before pulling away. The comeback was fueled by Smith, Eric Alaya and fellow freshman Aaron Wiggins.

Maryland outscored Purdue 40-18 in the second half, limiting the Boilermakers to 1-for-16 shooting from beyond the arc.

Ayala scored 15, Anthony Cowan Jr. added 12 and Fernando Bruno had 12 points and 12 rebounds, his seventh straight double-double and 16th of the season. Wiggins scored 11 on 4-of-6 shooting.

Carsen Edwards scored 24 for Purdue (17-7, 10-3), but was limited to seven points after halftime on 2-for-13 shooting. The Boilermakers went 6 for 36 from the floor in the second half.

No. 18 KANSAS STATE 71, TEXAS 64

AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Barry Brown and Xavier Sneed each scored 16 points, and Kansas State beat Texas for its ninth straight Big 12 victory.

Three other Wildcats scored in double figures, Dean Wade with 12 points, and Kamau Stokes and Makol Mawien with 11 apiece.

Kerwin Roach led Texas (14-11, 6-6 Big 12) with 17 points, and Courtney Ramey added 10.

Kansas State (19-5, 9-2 in Big 12) converted nearly 55 percent of its field goal attempts, including 56.5 in the second half.

No. 25 BUFFALO 76, AKRON 70

AKRON, Ohio (AP) - CJ Massinburg scored 21 points, Dontay Caruthers added 15 and Buffalo turned up its defensive intensity in the second half and held on to beat Akron, dropping the Zips to 0-31 against ranked teams.

The Bulls (21-3, 9-2 Mid-American Conference) were held to one of the lowest point totals this season, but the defending conference champions were able to do enough against the Zips (14-10, 6-5), ranked 13th nationally in scoring defense.

Caruthers came off the bench and gave the Bulls some solid minutes at both ends, drawing a charging foul during a key second-half stretch for Buffalo, which forced two 30-second clock violations after halftime.

Loren Cristian Jackson scored 20 and Tyler Cheese 16 for the Zips, who kept fighting and closed within 73-70 on Daniel Utomi's 3-pointer with 16.3 seconds left.

Quote of the Day
?(Lakers? GM) Rob Pelinka called me and said that Ben [Simmons] wanted to talk to Hall of Famers after the season. Magic (Johnson) was on the list. He asked for authorization ? I said no.?
76ers? GM Elton Brand, who doesn?t want the Lakers tampering with his star

Wednesday?s quiz

Which NBA team did John Calipari used to coach?

Tuesday?s quiz
Steve Spurrier coached the Tampa Bay Bandits in the USFL, back in the mid-80?s.

*******************

Wednesday?s List of 13: A snowy list of mid-week musings??.

13) We talk now and then about the football handicapping contests in Las Vegas, the best one being at the Westgate SuperBook, and another really good one at the Golden Nugget.

Signups for the Golden Nugget contest start March 8, $1,000 an entry; you pick seven games a week, college or NFL. Each person can have three entries. Seems like football season just ended; oh wait, it did??. 🙂

More and more of these contests are going to pop up around the country, as legalized gambling spreads. Good way to get people in the door of your casino.

12) Cleveland Browns signed former Chiefs? RB Kareem Hunt, who got into trouble with the NFL after he got into a scuffle with his girlfriend in a hotel last fall, a scuffle that was captured on camera.

11) Jacob deGrom informed the Mets that he will not negotiate a new deal during the season; deGrom?s camp has set Opening Day as the deadline to complete any potential long-term deal.

deGrom can become a free-agent after the 2020 season; he wants a contract that would buy out his remaining arbitration year and extend his agreement with the Mets long term.

10) You can wager one of these four teams (Duke, Michigan, Gonzaga and Kansas) to win the national title at -$125 vs the field (+105). Interesting wager. Gonzaga/Kansas have injury issues, but someone is going to have to beat Duke for you, if you play the field.

9) Surprising fact; according to Wikipedia, El Paso has 683,577 citizens; Boston has 685,094. Wouldn?t have thought that.

8) In case you were wondering, Las Vegas sportsbooks took $145,939,025 in bets on the Super Bowl, 2nd-most of all time; the bettors lost $10,780,319 on those wagers.

7) Atlanta Falcons added former Chiefs? DC Bob Sutton to its stuff, to help coach Dan Quinn with game management. Quinn is expected to run the Falcons? defense next year.

6) TCU basketball coach Jamie Dixon grew up in the Los Angeles area; when was a kid, he starred in several TV commercials, including ads for Volvo, Rice Krispies, Mattel and Bud Light.

5) AAF?s Memphis Express signed QB JaMarcus Russell, who last played in the NFL in 2009; he went 7-18 as a starter in three years with the Oakland Raiders. Memphis got shut out in its AAF opener; they could use some help, but I?m not sure if Russell will help.

4) A?s signed oft-injured lefty starter Brett Anderson; it?ll be his third stint with Oakland.

3) Virginia 69, North Carolina 61? Solid road win for the Cavaliers Monday night, 48 hours after they lost at home to Duke.

2) Nine of 32 NFL teams will have new offensive coordinators next season.

Rich Scangarello is he new OC in San Francisco; he?s made coaching stops at Carleton (2001), Milsaps (?10-?11), Northern Arizona (?12-?14), Wagner (?16). Not exactly football hotbeds.

1) Understood that Kyler Murray is free to choose his own career path, but when a team pays you $210,000 like the A?s did for basically doing nothing, you owe them a phone call or a text to clue them in on your decision before you go in the other direction.

It is common courtesy; Murray?s advisors made him look bad Monday.

South Carolina at Tennessee
February 13, 2019
By Brian Edwards

Tennessee will play host to South Carolina tonight at Thompson-Boling Arena in a vintage letdown scenario. The top-ranked Volunteers have a date with Kentucky at Rupp Arena looming on Saturday, making this double-digit home ?chalk? spot precarious.

As of early this morning, most books had Tennessee (22-1 straight up, 13-8-1 against the spread) installed as a 16.5-point favorite with a total of 155.

Rick Barnes?s team is 10-0 in SEC play, one-half game in front of second-place LSU (10-1) in the league standings. UT is unbeaten in 14 home games with a 6-6-1 spread record.

Barnes?s team took its only defeat of the season on Nov. 23 against Kansas in overtime (87-81) as a three-point underdog. Since then, UT has produced a program-record winning streak of 18 games. The Vols are 9-3 ATS in their past 12 contests.

Tennessee is off Saturday?s 73-61 win over Florida as an 11-point home favorite. UT backers were fortunate that UF?s KeVaughn Allen missed a running left hander at the buzzer that could?ve given the Gators an improbable spread cover. The 134 combined points dipped ?under? the 137-point total.

Grant Williams led the way with 16 points, six rebounds and three assists on 7-of-11 shooting from the field. Admiral Schofield had 14 points and six boards, while Jordan Bone had 10 points, five rebounds and five assists. Jordan Bowden added 13 points for the winners.

Tennessee is ranked second in the nation in field-goal percentage (51.6%), seventh in scoring with its 85.4 points-per-game average and 17th in free-throw percentage (76.3%). UT is ranked 14th in the country in FG percentage defense (39.0%).

Williams is probably the favorite to win SEC Player of the Year honors. He?s averaging 19.9 points, 7.3 rebounds, 3.3 assists, 1.5 blocked shots and 1.2 steals per game. Williams is hitting 58.1 percent of his FGAs and 83.2 percent of his free-throw attempts. Admiral Schofield is a likely All-SEC first-teamer with his high-energy play that reminds me of former Vol Ron Slay (minus the headband). He?s averaging 16.5 points, 6.3 rebounds and 1.0 steals per game. Schofield has drained 40.2 percent of his 3-pointers.

Bone is averaging 13.3 points, 6.6 assists and 3.1 rebounds. The junior guard has a 151/45 assist-to-turnover ratio. Lamonte Turner (11.8 PPG) has buried 37.8 percent of his treys and has a 48/19 assist-to-turnover ratio. Bowden (11.3 PPG) paces the Vols in FT accuracy (90.3%) and has a 56/20 assist-to-turnover ratio.

While showering UT with compliments after Saturday?s loss, UF head coach Mike White said, ?Versatility, discipline, toughness and strength are words I?d use to describe them. They?ve very strong. Their guards can muscle you and their bigs can move their feet. That?s a really good combination.?

Tennessee is ranked No. 1 in the national polls, but it?s No. 4 in the NCAA?s new NET Rankings and No. 5 at KenPom.com. The Vols are 11-1 in 12 games against K-Pom Top-100 opponents. Their best wins are neutral-court scalps over Gonzaga and Louisville. They have road victories at Florida, at Memphis, at Missouri and at Texas A&M, in addition to home triumphs over UF, Mizzou, Alabama and Arkansas.

South Carolina (12-11 SU, 9-13 ATS) is alone in fourth place in the SEC with its 7-3 conference ledger. Frank Martin?s team had lost four of its previous six games both SU and ATS going into Saturday?s home game vs. Arkansas.

USC snapped out of its slump against the Razorbacks, however. The Gamecocks won a 77-65 decision as 1.5-point home favorites. They overcame a four-point intermission deficit and outscored the Hogs 46-30 in the final 20 minutes.

A.J. Lawson torched Arkansas with 24 points, seven rebounds and three assists. He buried 8-of-12 field-goal attempts, 4-of-5 launches from 3-point land and 4-of-5 attempts at the charity stripe. Keyshawn Bryant finished with 17 points and a pair of steals, while Chris Silva contributed 16 points, eight rebounds and three blocked shots.

USC is ranked No. 94 at K-Pom and No. 98 in the NET rankings. The Gamecocks have a 5-9 record against the Top 100 at K-Pom. Their best wins are at Florida along with home scalps of Auburn, Arkansas, Mississippi State and Missouri. This will be the fifth time Martin?s club has faced a Top-10 foe, previously losing at Michigan (89-78), vs. Virginia (69-52), vs. Tennessee (92-70) and at Kentucky (76-48).

USC has lost five of its eight road games while going 4-4 ATS. The Gamecocks have been double-digit underdogs three times this year, compiling a 2-1 spread record with one outright win at UF.

Silva, an All-SEC selection last season, is averaging 13.7 points, 7.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocked shots per game. He?s hit 52.1 percent of his FGAs and 74.7 percent of his FTAs. Lawson is averaging 13.7 PPG, while Hassani Gravett is averaging 10.7 points and 3.8 RPG while making 40.0 percent of his triples.

When these teams met in Columbia on Jan. 29, Tennessee led by only four at the under-12 television timeout in the second half. But the Vols pulled away in the final 10 minutes and cruised to a 92-70 win as an 8.5-point road favorite. The 162 combined points went ?over? the 154-point total.

Schofield was the catalyst with 24 points, nine rebounds, four assists, two blocked shots and one steal. Williams finished with 23 points, nine boards and four steals, while Bone produced 19 points, nine assists and five rebounds. Turner chipped in with 13 points

Silva had 28 points, 10 rebounds and two blocked shots in the losing effort. Tre Campbell had 14 points on 3-of-4 shooting from downtown.

The ?over? is 15-6 overall for USC, 5-3 in its road assignments. The Gamecocks have seen back-to-back ?unders.?

The ?over? is 12-10 overall for the Vols, but they?ve seen the ?under? go 9-4 in their home outings.

The SEC Network will provide the telecast at 6:30 p.m. Eastern.

**B.E.?s Bonus Nuggets**

-- LSU went into Rupp Arena last night and beat Kentucky 73-71 as a nine-point road underdog, hooking up money-line supporters with a +350 return (paid $350 on $100 wagers). It was LSU?s first win in Lexington since Chris Jackson?s second-half explosion sparked Dale Brown?s squad to a win over Eddie Sutton?s last team at UK in 1989. Last night?s game ended in controversy, as the Tigers got the go-ahead bucket on a tip-in from Kevell Bigby-Williams just ahead of the buzzer. Bigby-Williams might?ve tipped the ball while it was still in the cylinder, but there were three instances of controversy on the game?s final play that was preceded by a pair of tying FTs from UK?s Keldon Johnson. With six seconds remaining, Skylar Mays took the inbounds pass and dribbled the length of the court into the lane. His shot was off the mark but replays showed a UK defender putting his hands through the nets, which should?ve made Mays? shot a made basket due to goaltending. However, another missed call would?ve prevented either of those non-calls from mattering. Check out this embedded tweet at the two-second mark where you can see Mays clearly stepped out of bounds on the sideline in the backcourt:

-- UK had won 10 games in a row and had covered in eight straight. The ?under? is on an 8-2 run for the Wildcats. LSU remained undefeated in six SEC road games.

-- As of early this morning, Auburn was listed as an 8.5-point home favorite vs. Ole Miss. Bruce Pearl?s team is 12-1 SU and 8-4 ATS at home, while the Rebels are 4-3 SU and 6-1 ATS in seven road assignments. Auburn saw its three-game winning streak snapped in Saturday?s 83-78 loss at LSU. The 161 combined points slipped ?over? the 160-point total, improving the ?over? to 7-2 in the Tigers? past nine contests. Since losing four games in a row, the Rebels have won back-to-back games vs. Texas A&M and at UGA. These teams will collide at 8:30 p.m. Eastern tonight on the SEC Network.

-- Florida was listed as a 10.5-point home favorite vs. Vanderbilt early this morning. The Gators are looking to snap a three-game losing streak (SU) and jump out of a 0-6 ATS slide. The ?under? is 15-8 overall for UF, but the ?over? is 7-4 in its home outings. Vandy hasn?t tasted victory in all of 2019 and is hoping to end an 11-game losing streak in Gainesville tonight. The Commodores are mired in a 3-8 ATS slump. Tip-off is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. Eastern on ESPNU.

-- WagerTalk?s KellyinVegas took one of the worse beats you can possibly imagine last night. She had a money-line three-teamer going with LSU, Penn State and Louisville. U of L was going to the FT line for the front end of a 1 and 1 with a 23 point-lead and 9:13 remaining. With 6:25 left, the Cardinals were up by 19. As you now know, Duke surged back and won 71-69 in the biggest comeback of Mike Krzyzewski?s storied career. The parlay would?ve paid KIV more than 70/1 odds. That?s just an unfathomable Bad Beat. Hate it for her!

-- We?ve been pushing the Fade Nebrasketball Thing for several week snow, so here?s your Alert that the Cornhuskers are back in action tonight. In fact, they were four-point home favorites to Minnesota early this morning. Tim Miles is on a boiling hot seat and his team is looking to snap a seven-game losing streak both SU and ATS. Four of the past five L?s have come by double-digit margins. The Gophers are only 1-6 SU and 3-4 ATS on the road. They?re looking to snap a three-game losing streak. This is a 9:00 p.m. Eastern tip on the Big Ten Network.

NCAA Basketball Game Preview
South Carolina Gamecocks at Tennessee Volunteers

The Tennessee Volunteers have been absolutely magnificent this season, as a storybook year has them sitting at No. 1 in the country as the regular season winds down. Tennessee is undefeated in SEC play and would love to capture the conference title before turning its attention to March Madness. The Volunteers have a very winnable game next time out when they host the South Carolina Gamecocks.

The Volunteers are the vastly superior team and have the home court so they will be the substantial favorites. South Carolina has looked good in conference play after a shaky non-conference showing and would love to pull the upset, but covering the spread seems like a more realistic goal in NCAA men?s basketball gambling.

This NCAA basketball game between the South Carolina Gamecocks and Tennessee Volunteers will be held at Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tennessee at 6:30 p.m. ET on Wednesday, February 13th, 2019. The game will be nationally televised on SEC Network.

We'll have NCAA basketball odds at BookMaker.eu available for every game of the 2019 NCAA basketball season.

Odds Analysis

South Carolina has an overall record of just 12-11 but has won seven of 10 games in conference. The Gamecocks have won two of their past three games, including a 77-65 defeat of Arkansas last time out. South Carolina has gone 2-5 on the road this season and it would be a shocker if it improves on that mark in this matchup.

Tennessee is 22-1 on the year and a perfect 10-0 in the SEC. The Volunteers? lone loss of the season came to Kansas by six points in non-conference play. Tennessee beat then-No. 1 Gonzaga later in the non-conference schedule and it has rolled through conference opponents, although it has yet to play Kentucky.

Previous Matchup

These teams met back on January 29 and Tennessee cruised to a road win by the score of 92-70. The Volunteers raced out to a 47-38 lead at the half and continued to pile it on after intermission. Admiral Schofield led the way for Tennessee with 24 points, nine rebounds and four assists, while Grant Williams also had a solid game with 23 points, nine rebounds and four steals.

The Volunteers shot a sparkling 56.3 percent from the field while holding South Carolina to 40.4 percent from the field. The Gamecocks were led by Chris Silva, who had 28 points and 10 rebounds, but he didn?t get nearly enough help.

Key Stat

18. That?s the number of wins in a row Tennessee has reeled off to move all the way up to No. 1 in the country. The Volunteers might not have quite the same level of talent as Duke but is certainly playing its way into a No. 1 seed for March Madness. Tennessee is in the driver?s seat to win the SEC and should have no trouble extending its winning streak in this one.

Free NCAA Basketball ATS Picks

The Volunteers are going to be tested down the stretch when they face off against Kentucky. This one should be an easy win, but Tennessee?s full attention may not be present considering the lopsided talent level. South Carolina is not going to win this game but it is the choice to cover the spread in NCAA men?s basketball gambling.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Tennessee Volunteers 79, South Carolina Gamecocks 68

College Basketball Preview - Texas Tech at Oklahoma State

The Texas Tech Red Raiders will try and keep pace in the Big 12, as they visit the Oklahoma State Cowboys on Wednesday night in a game that can be seen on ESPN 2. The Red Raiders are 7-4 in the conference and a half game behind Kansas for second place.

Texas Tech has a favorable schedule down the stretch, so they have a chance to catch Kansas State for the top spot in the conference. The Red Raiders play Oklahoma State twice, host Baylor, Kansas and Texas and have road games at TCU and Iowa State. Let?s look at Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma State and college basketball picks.

Texas Tech Red Raiders vs. Oklahoma State Cowboys
Date and Time: Wednesday, February 13, 2019, 9:00 p.m. ET
Location: Gallagher-Iba Arena, Stillwater, OK
College Basketball Odds at BetDSI: Texas Tech -6.5, O/U 127.5
Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma State TV Coverage: ESPN 2

The Red Raiders are up to No. 15 in the country after going 2-0 last week. Texas Tech is the second-highest ranked team in the Big 12 behind only Kansas. This could be another good week for the Red Raiders as they face a depleted Oklahoma State team on Wednesday and then host Baylor on Saturday.

Texas Tech is just 2-4 ATS on the road this season, with three games going over the total and three going under. They are averaging just 70.6 points per game, but their defense has been excellent, as they are giving up just 57.3 points per game, 3rd best in the country.

Oklahoma State is down to just seven scholarship players on their roster and it has gotten so bad that walk-ons have made the team. Head coach Mike Boynton had to bring in players just to have enough players to practice against. Dee Mitchell and Cade Wagner were just added to the team and now the Cowboys have five walk-ons on the squad.

Boynton said that the walk-ons usually just form the scout team, but that he has gotten them up to speed in case they are needed. "They've been phenomenal," Boynton said to the media. "We've kinda started incorporating them in more things that we're doing, meetings and film, in hopes of that if at some point, somebody has to play, they know what we're doing."

The Cowboys are just 4-7 ATS at home, with four games going over and seven going under the total. They are averaging just 69 points per game and giving up just about 71 per contest.

Key Stats

The Red Raiders are 1-7 ATS in the last 8 meetings at Oklahoma State. The Red Raiders are 2-6 ATS in their last 8 road games. The Red Raiders are 4-12-2 ATS in their last 18 vs. the Big 12. The Cowboys are 2-9 ATS in their last 11 home games. The Under is 25-9 in the Cowboys last 34 home games.

Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma State Free Picks

I would like to go with Texas Tech, as they are the better team, but I am really leery because they have been so poor on the road against the number. It is really hard to lay points on the road with teams that doesn?t score a lot of points and Texas Tech relies on their defense to win games.

The problem with taking the Cowboys is that they are simply depleted. They just don?t have the players right now to win games consistently. I think the best choice is to avoid a side and look at the total.

Texas Tech is one of the top defensive teams in the country, so they should be able to hold down Oklahoma State on Wednesday. The Red Raiders are nothing special on offense themselves, so I expect this to be a defensive struggle. Oklahoma State might be able to stay within the number, because they are at home, but I think the best choice is to simply play the game under the total at BetDSI.

Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma State ATS Pick: Under 127.5
Texas Tech vs. Oklahoma State Score Prediction: Texas Tech 64, Oklahoma State 60

Vols top Gamecocks for 19th straight win
February 13, 2019
By The Associated Press

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (AP) Admiral Schofield had 21 points and 10 rebounds as No. 1 Tennessee defeated South Carolina 85-73 on Wednesday for its school-record 19th consecutive victory.

Tennessee owns the longest active winning streak of any active Division I team and is 11-0 in Southeastern Conference competition for the first time in school history.

The Volunteers (23-1, 11-0 SEC) also earned their 23rd straight home win. Tennessee's last home loss was a 94-84 setback against Auburn on Jan. 2, 2018.

South Carolina (12-12, 7-4) made a season-high 14 3-point baskets and shot 60.9 percent from beyond the arc. Tennessee was 9 of 20 on 3-point attempts.

Jordan Bowden scored 16 points for Tennessee. Kyle Alexander, Jordan Bone and Lamonte' Turner added 10 points each.

Tre Campbell had 19 points for South Carolina. Chris Silva provided 17 points and 15 rebounds, while Hassani Gravett added 15 points.

NO. 13 VILLANOVA 85, PROVIDENCE 67

VILLANOVA, Pa. (AP) - Eric Paschall scored 20 of his 25 points in the second half and Villanova rebounded from its first Big East loss by running away from Providence.

Phil Booth added 22 for the Wildcats (20-5, 11-1), who were fresh off a one-point loss to No. 10 Marquette after getting off to a program best 10-0 start in league play.

Nate Watson led Providence (14-11, 4-8) with 18 points. The Friars have lost four of their last five but were coming off an impressive 14-point road win at St. John's on Saturday.

NO. 15 TEXAS TECH 78, OKLAHOMA STATE 50

STILLWATER, Okla. (AP) - Jarrett Culver scored 19 points, and Texas Tech eased past Oklahoma State.

Matt Mooney scored 15 points and Tariq Owens added 11 for the Red Raiders (20-5, 8-4 Big 12), who have won five of six.

Cameron McGriff scored 18 points for Oklahoma State (9-15, 2-9), which has lost seven of eight. The Cowboys scored a season-low point total.

NO. 17 FLORIDA STATE 88, WAKE FOREST 66

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Senior Christ Koumadje recorded his first career double-double with 20 points and 12 rebounds to help Florida State beat Wake Forest.

Koumadje, a 7-foot-4 center who is playing in his 109th career game, made 10 of 12 shots from the floor and set a career high in rebounds as the Seminoles won their sixth straight game.

Phil Cofer scored 13 points and Mfiondu Kabengele had nine points and seven rebounds for Florida State (19-5, 7-4 ACC).

Chaundee Brown scored 20 points on 7 of 12 shooting and Brandon Childress had 11 points for Wake Forest (9-14, 2-9). The Demon Deacons are just 1-6 against ranked teams this season.

NO. 22 VIRGINIA TECH 76, GEORGIA TECH 68

BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) - Ty Outlaw scored 20 points and Virginia Tech rallied past Georgia Tech.

Outlaw hit six 3-pointers for the Hokies (19-5, 8-4 ACC), who rallied from a three-point halftime deficit and snapped a two-game losing streak.

Kerry Blackshear Jr. and Nickeil Alexander-Walker each scored 16 points for the Hokies, who swept the season series and notched their sixth straight win over Georgia Tech (11-14, 3-9).

Michael Devoe paced the Yellow Jackets with 22 points.

Thursday?s Den: We?re changing things a little, starting today??.

Starting today, we?re starting something different here, something that hopefully you like and hopefully something that won?t drive me crazy.

I?ll post a selection EVERY DAY going forward, whether it be a college game, an NBA game, a futures bet or even an NHL or AAF game. Picks will be posted by noon each day.

Only exceptions will be during the baseball All-Star break, and the short time in October between the end of baseball season and the beginning of the NBA.

Been debating this for several months, but Wednesday, while shoveling snow (oddly enough) I decided that this was the way to go. So if this doesn?t go well, blame my snowplow guy, who for some reason, is on vacation this week.

Wrapping up college hoop games the last two nights??.
13) Duke 71, Louisville 69? Cardinals led by 23 with 9:20 left, then collapsed down stretch, turning ball over nine times from that point on as Duke ratcheted up their pressure.

Chris Mack has some serious psychology work ahead of him the rest of this week.

12) Nets 148, Cavaliers 139, 3OTs? D?Angelo Russell scored 28 of the Nets? 39 points in the OT?s; he had only 8 points in regulation. Kenny Atkinson is doing a great job to have the Nets a 29-29 with two of his best players missing large chunks of the season with injuries.

Jordan Clarkson scored 42 for Cleveland in this game, and he didn?t start.

11) Miami 65, Clemson 64? Hurricanes tore Clemson?s heart out, hitting an off-balance jumper with 0:00.4 left for the unlikely win. Tigers had fought their way into being ?in? projections of the Field of 68, but this bad loss likely drops them back out.

10) Kansas State 71, Texas 64:

Texas coach Shaka Smart to his team during a first half timeout: ?This is a basketball game against a team we?re better than!!!?

Well, maybe not. K-State is 19-5, 9-2 in the league; Texas is 14-11, 6-6 in the league. You tell me which team is better.

Matthew McConaughey was sitting on the end of the Longhorns? bench, which I?m assuming is legal, since its not the first time he?s done it, but since when do boosters sit on the bench during the freakin? game?

9) Western Kentucky basketball coach Rick Stansbury will miss Thursday, Saturday games this week; he is having back surgery Friday. Assistant coach Mark Hsu, who served as interim coach in Stansbury?s place last week, will continue in that role.

8) LSU 73, Kentucky 71? Outstanding game ended on an LSU tip-in at the buzzer, that was really close to being offensive goaltending. Two very good, young teams; this game had a March feel to it.

7) Xavier 64, Creighton 61 OT? Bluejays lose third straight game, two of them in OT. Xavier ends a 6-game losing streak.

6) UCLA 75, California 67, OT? Bruins were down 7 at half, came back and kept Golden Bears winless in Pac-12 play. Last Pac-12 team to go 0-18 in conference was Oregon State 11 years ago, but league was a hell of a lot better then than it is now.

5) St Bonaventure 76, St Joe?s 51?Bonnies won for 4th time in last six games, climb over .500 (6-5) in the A-14- they?ve won their last four road games.

Coach Mark Schmidt has now tied Larry Weise for the most coaching wins in St Bonaventure history, with 202, and he did it on his birthday, which is nice.

4) Ole Miss 60, Auburn 55? Rebels were 13-33 on arc, only 6-18 inside arc, which is weird. Auburn was 5-20 on arc, which is how upsets happen.

3) Quinnipiac 98, Rider 88 OT? Rider just played three games in five nights and lost all three, the first two by 1-2 points, then this; they led this game by 9 with 0:49 left, by 7 with 0:24 left.

2) There was a big NFL trade Wednesday; Ravens traded Joe Flacco to Denver, for what is expected to be a 4th round pick in April?s draft.

Flacco was a Raven for 11 years, winning Super Bowl XLVII; he was 96-67 as a starter, 10-5 in playoff games, so a very productive Raven.

By way of comparison, Eli Manning is 116-114 as a starter, 8-4 in playoff games; I?ve never heard anyone suggest that Flacco is a Hall of Famer, so why would Manning be one?

Ravens-Broncos do not play next season, which is too bad for the NFL?s schedule makers.

1) Then there is Case Keenum, who could be playing for his 4th team in four years in 2019, as he dashes towards the Ryan Fitzpatrick career path.

Thursday's Tip Sheet
February 13, 2019
By Kevin Rogers

Illinois at Ohio State (-8 ?, 142 ?) ? 7:00 PM EST ? ESPN2

Both these Big 10 squads sit in the middle of the conference standings, but each team has stepped up of late. Illinois (9-15 SU, 10-14 ATS) is coming off three consecutive home wins over Nebraska, Michigan State, and Rutgers to move to 5-8 inside the league. After shocking Michigan State as 10 ?-point underdogs last Tuesday, the Illini held off Rutgers in overtime, 99-94 on Saturday to win three straight games for the first time this season.

Ohio State (16-7 SU, 10-13 ATS) started Big 10 play with a pair of December victories, but when the calendar flipped to 2019, the Buckeyes dropped five straight conference affairs. The Buckeyes have rebounded with wins in four of their last five contests, including a 55-52 triumph at Indiana as 2 ?-point underdogs this past Sunday. Although the Buckeyes have pulled to 6-6 in the league, OSU?s last four wins have come against teams that own conference records of 4-9 or worse.

Illinois is barely above the likes of Indiana, Nebraska, Rutgers, and Penn State, as the Fighting Illini is seeking its first true road win of the season. The Illini has lost 11 of 12 games away from Champagne, while capturing only one away Big 10 victory since the start of last season, which came at Rutgers in last year?s season finale.

Ohio State took care of Illinois in the first meeting to tip off Big 10 play in December, 77-67 as five-point road favorites. The game took place at the United Center in Chicago as the Buckeyes erased a four-point halftime deficit and outscored the Illini, 43-29 in the second half. Illinois was held to 33% shooting from the floor, while each team knocked down 23 free throws. Ohio State has captured eight of the past nine meetings since 2013, but Illinois has covered in its last two trips to Columbus.

Houston (-8, 140) at UConn ? 7:00 PM EST ? ESPN

Only one team has tripped up Houston (23-1 SU, 16-7-1 ATS) this season as the Cougars seek their ninth win in a row on Thursday. Since losing at Temple on January 9, Houston has won and covered in each of its past four AAC road contests, including a nine-point triumph at UCF last Thursday. The most recent victory for Kelvin Sampson?s team came in Sunday?s AAC showdown with Cincinnati as the Cougars held off the Bearcats, 65-58 to cash as 4 ?-point favorites and move to 10-1 in the league.

Houston heads to UConn (13-11 SU, 14-10 ATS) as the Huskies have won only one game away from Storrs, but they are 12-2 at home. UConn is riding a four-game home winning streak since losing the AAC opener to UCF, but the Huskies are coming off a pair of road defeats at Temple and Memphis. The Huskies pulled out a narrow cover as 7 ?-point underdogs in a 78-71 setback at Memphis last Sunday, while improving to 5-1 ATS in the past six games.

The Cougars have cashed in six of seven road contests, while covering in five of the past seven opportunities as a favorite of five points or more. Houston won the lone matchup between these two teams last season, 81-71 in Texas, but the Huskies picked up the cover as 14 ?-point underdogs. The Cougars are making their first trip to Storrs since December 2016 when they dominated the Huskies, 62-48 as 3 ?-point favorites.

Arizona at Utah (-4 ?, 145 ?) ? 9:00 PM EST

It?s turning into a free-fall of epic proportions in Tucson as Arizona (14-10 SU, 10-13-1 ATS) has gone from 5-1 in Pac-12 play to 5-6 in a two-week span. The Wildcats have dropped five consecutive games, including three losses by double-digits in this stretch. Arizona hung with conference leader Washington last Thursday before losing by seven, but the Wildcats were blitzed early by Washington State in a 69-55 defeat last Saturday as 11 ?-point favorites.

The Wildcats travel north to Utah to face the Utes (13-10 SU, 11-12 ATS), who have overcome a 1-2 Pac-12 start to own a 7-4 conference mark. Utah has won five of six games away from Salt Lake City with the only road setback coming at Arizona in overtime, 84-81 on January 5. The Utes grabbed the cover as eight-point underdogs and shot 56% from the field, led by Sedrick Barefield?s 26 points. However, Utah has lost nine of the past 10 matchups with Arizona, with the only victory in this span coming at Huntsman Center in February 2016 as 3 ?-point favorites, 70-64.

Utah swept the Los Angeles schools last weekend, capped off by an incredible comeback win at UCLA last Saturday. The Utes climbed out of a 22-point hole as Parker Van Dyke drilled a three-pointer at the buzzer to stun the reeling Bruins, 93-92, while cashing as five-point underdogs. However, Utah has struggled at home of late by losing its last two to Oregon and Oregon State. Since hitting the UNDER against Washington in its conference home opener, the Utes have finished OVER the total in four straight games at Huntsman Center.

Colonial Clippings

Two of the top three teams in the CAA do battle on Thursday as Hofstra (21-4 SU, 18-6 ATS) visits College of Charleston (20-6 SU, 10-14-1 ATS). The Pride sit atop the league at 11-1, while the Cougars are in third place at 9-4. Hofstra bounced back from a 14-point loss at Northeastern to win the last two games at home against William & Mary and Elon. Charleston is riding a six-game winning streak, which includes four consecutive victories at home. The last loss suffered by the Cougars came to the Pride on January 19 as Hofstra grabbed an 86-72 triumph as five-point home favorites.

Northeastern is wedged in between Hofstra and Charleston towards the top of the CAA standings at 9-3. The Huskies (15-9 SU, 12-10-2 ATS) are fresh off their fourth straight win after outlasting Elon in overtime, 72-60 on Saturday. In spite of the 12-point win, Northeastern failed to cash as hefty 16 ?-point favorites for only their second non-cover in the last 10 games. The Huskies visit UNC-Wilmington as the Seahawks (8-18 SU, 10-13-2 ATS) have lost five straight to slip to 4-9 in the CAA. Northeastern cruised past UNCW as 12-point home favorites, 88-71 on January 19 to pick up its fourth consecutive win over the Seahawks since the start of last season.

Delaware and Towson each seek consistency as the two squads meet in Baltimore. The Blue Hens (15-11 SU, 11-11-2 ATS) snapped a three-game skid in a 70-66 home win over UNC-Wilmington last Saturday, but Delaware pushed as a four-point favorite to fall to 0-5-1 ATS the last six contests. The Tigers (9-16 SU, 10-14 ATS) have heated up from an ATS perspective by cashing in five of the past six games, while going 4-2 SU. Most of this damage has been in the underdog role, as Towson will be listed as a CAA favorite for only the third time. Towson squeezed past Delaware as 5 ?-point road underdogs, 64-63 in mid-January to improve to 7-0 in the last seven meetings.

Four teams finished tied for the bottom spot of the CAA last season, including Drexel and James Madison. The Dragons (12-14 SU, 16-9 ATS) won only six conference games in 2018, but Drexel has been the most improved team in the Colonial by beginning 6-7 after an 0-2 start. Drexel grabbed its seventh consecutive cover in a two-point home defeat to Charleston last Saturday, while owning a 5-2 ATS mark in CAA road contests. Drexel heads to James Madison as the Dukes (10-15 SU, 7-16 ATS) have put together a 1-6 SU/ATS mark the last seven games overall. The Dragons got past the Dukes in their first matchup in Philadelphia, 73-68 as 3 ?-point favorites last month as these teams have met seven times since the start of the 2016-17 season.
