Does anyone really believe China only had 81,439 cases?

I think that's most likely a fraction of the cases, especially when you consider the people who had it and weren't confirmed.

Update: From my brother in law at Emory & the CDC.

The numbers being reported are NOT accurate.

Act is though EVERYONE has it. That's the ONLY way to protect yourself.

STAY HOME unless it's a necessity to get FOOD or MEDICINE.

Guaranteed 100's of thousands are infected if not millions will be.

The United States lies as much as any other government. There's a reason we are criminally behind in tests, and it's not because we cant get them. Our government doesnt want you to know how many people have it.

Exactly, dumb fuck doesn?t want his numbers to look any worse.
He very much hopes many people get well before they are tested.
But those people are still on the street infecting others.

Stats as of March 29th 11:59am EST - World Health Organization

638,146 confirmed cases

202 countries, areas or territories with cases

30,105 deaths

Current Population of Planet Earth = 7.78 Billion

99.3 percent of all countries on Planet Earth now have the virus floating around their borders. For those that want to take a trip to Vanuatu it might be worth it, no reports of anybody there having the virus.

I don't think that there's any question that the numbers are underreported - but also think they are always underreported. This came up with the H1N1 pandemic in another thread - 18,036 deaths confirmed by the WHO vs. the CDC estimate of 284,000. Probably the more important question is whether or not we think one country is underreporting significantly more or less than another - which would impact comparisons and whether or not one country is dealing with this significantly better (or worse) than another.

As has been evidenced - I am no fan of Trump and am not at all a believer in this "liberal media" conspiracy nonsense. But one thing I do see which I feel is dishonest in the reporting is that the media is happy to use raw numbers when it suits them, and then switch to per capita if that makes their point better. Case in point - they were happy to (correctly) point out that Trump's claims that we have tested more than any other nation - while true in a raw number of tests standpoint - is bullshit on a per capita basis. But they are also happy to keep trumpeting that we have the "most infections in the world" even though per capita we're still 1/4th where Italy and Spain are. They need to pick a lane - per capita is far more useful but if you're gonna use it you need to be consistent.

Well never mind, Vanuatu has now reported a case.

Pretty much nowhere on Earth now is free of the virus.

Currently 36,571 deaths worldwide, it would sure suck if you were one of them, but on a World Population scale that number is nothing. And almost all that have died were already unhealthy, and most were elderly. And yes if things get 20 or 30 x worse then they are now, the numbers are still really low on a world scale. Again, not great news but statistically speaking not zombie apocalypse kind of news.

The most positive news so far is that some countries are reporting that they are "Flattening the Curve", so that is good news for sure.

And who knows maybe we will have a cure in 6 months or so:shrug:

Maybe Trumps "My Pillow" guy will come up with a cure quicker then that time frame?:142smilie
