I just laughed when I read this. The most successful MMA event ever held was in Montreal...yet the commission pulls this:scared

What a bunch of morons.........The event will still take place....the money that the city of Montreal made was in the millions (45% of the paid attendance came from Ontario), there is no way the city will turn down all that money again. Plus there are many other cities throught Canada that would hold a UFC event. Edmonton, Calgary, and even Saskatoon would do pretty much anything to get an event.

Funny how a total of 9 people on a commission could be so stupid. Plus Montreal is home to GSP, a marketers dream.

And gee what a shocker bucs bashes Canada...again:shrug:

?I think my jiu jitsu would give me a very big advantage [against Anderson Silva}. Jiu jitsu is very effective in MMA and vale tudo. I have superior jiu jitsu and I think I would bring that to the fight. But Anderson is, to me, the best fighter in the world. He?s very well rounded, very complete, very hard to beat. He has more experience than I have. But I know I would like to challenge him. I can?t wait?. I don?t think [me and Chael Sonnen are] better than he is. I think we could win if we fight him but I don?t think I?m better than he is. I think he?s the best fighter in the world, but I think I could win if I fought him. I know the strongest part of my game is my jiu jitsu, so that?s how I could beat him. But it wouldn?t be easy. He?s the best fighter in the world.?

Undefeated middleweight contender Demain Maia provides MMAFanhouse.com with perhaps a more accurate assessment of his ability compared to current UFC Middleweight Champion Anderson Silva. Maia?s opponent at UFC 95: ?Sanchez vs. Stevenson,? Chael Sonnen, remarked earlier this week that he and Maia were better than ?The Spider.? You can check out the reaction to that confident statement right here. Maia feels he has the tools to beat Silva, but it doesn?t necessarily mean he is the ?better? all around mixed martial artist.

I wonder what the Brown vs Garcia line will be? For some reason I like Garcia as of right now. He has a big heart and I find it easier to bet on guys like that. Not saying Brown doesn't have one but Garcia showed me a lot in his loss to Huerta.

nothing too exciting today....

Josh Neer inks new 4-fight deal with UFC.

Caol Uno has reportedly signed a new contract with the UFC..... he's expected to face Spencer Fisher at UFC 99 in May.

Jake Shields will fight Joe Riggs at the April 11th Strikeforce show.

I was hoping Shields would fight somebody GOOD.

The UFC really should pick him up. Shields is a top 5 welterweight; he's got no competition out of the UFC; he has wins over Condit/Okami/Trigg; has beaten Fitch AND Diego in grappling tournaments.

I mean :wtf: . Why not court a guy that has publicly called out your welterweight champion and is arguably top 10 p4p?

It's true...what would you guys say if it were England or Irleand, or Japan coming out wanting to band foot stomps, or rules that have been a part of the sport since forever?

It's pretty stupid, and the CANADA needs the UFC, the UFC doesn't need CANADA.

You do realize that we are talking about 8 guys on a commission in the province of Quebec. But go ahead bash the whole country of Canada again:mj07:

Just no foot stomps, ROFL

They don't mind elbow's and knees, but they don't want foot stomps...CANADA at its finest.

i think bob and doug mckenzie would take offense at that remark...

Foot stomps are cheap anyway, that is actually a rule improvement. I am sure Dan just said, ok we can hold this money maker somewhere else and the commission changed their minds. But then Dana was like here, why dont we say no foot stomps and it will look like an agreement instead of a UFC demand. A foot stomp is as cheap as a groin shot, may not hurt as bad but still cheap.
