Cody Bellinger, platooned when it mattered most last season, has 15 home runs against lefties this year, more than anyone in the sport. He is slashing 306/415/653 against them

As the Astros debuted safety netting extensions Mon., the Braves announced plans via Twitter to extend netting by the end of Sept. Since a toddler's May 29 head injuries at Houston on a foul liner, 3 teams ? the Astros, Chisox & Nationals ? have installed new netting, and 7 ? the Blue Jays, Braves, Dodgers, Orioles, Pirates, Rangers & Royals ? have publicly committed to it, totaling 1/3 of MLB's 30 teams

A World Series Preview??????

The Yankees loaded the bases with one out on three well-placed grounders, but Kenley Jansen came back to strike out Mike Tauchman and Gary Sanchez. The Dodgers win, 2-1. They're 86-45, two wins better than the Yankees for baseball's best record

Dodgers manager Dave Roberts, on what today showed him about a potential World Series matchup: "There's a lot of talent all over the field. Some veterans that can play the game the right way, and some young players that are gonna be the future of this game. It's a lot of talent. Two great, iconic, storied franchises. You can feel the emotion, the energy, from both dugouts, as well as the stadium."

The Yankees win, 5-1, and take two of three from the Dodgers. The Dodgers managed only 5 runs and dropped a three-game home series for only the third time all season.

Wheaties sponsors the first telecast of a baseball game when their ads air during the Ebbets Field contest between the Reds and the Dodgers. The commercial broadcast is available only in New York City, where an estimated 500 people own television sets.

Kansas City Royals owner David Glass has reached an agreement to sell the team to Kansas City businessman John Sherman for $1 billion, the team confirmed Friday.

Glass, who made his fortune as an executive with Wal-Mart, bought the Royals for $96 million in 2000. The Royals went through more lows than highs during his tenure, but did capture a World Series championship in 2015.

The Dodgers still have a lot of loose ends with four regular-season weeks remaining. Kenta Maeda will probably spend the rest of the month pitching out of the bullpen to prepare for a high-leverage role in October. Kenley Jansen is still the closer, but is an option to pitch in non-save situations as well. Cody Bellinger will spend a lot of time in CF moving forward, with AJ Pollock transitioning to LF. Rich Hill is still working his way back and will face hitters over the weekend. OF Alex Verdugo and 1B Max Muncy won't return until next week's road trip, and it sounds like Verdugo will have to earn his playing time back

Pete Alonso, breaker of ties. The Mets' rookie blasted his 45th homer of the season, a no-doubter to left off Anibal Sanchez. That breaks a three-way tie atop the MLB leaderboard. Entering today, Alonso was knotted with Mike Trout and and Cody Bellinger at 44 jacks each. The last time there was a three-way tie atop the bomb board this late in the season was 1993 (Barry Bonds, Ken Griffey Jr., Juan Gonzalez)

The Dodgers are dancing. Again. With a 7-3 win over the Orioles, LA has won its seventh straight division title. They did it in Game 146, tied for fourth fastest this century. The three teams ahead of them ('02 Braves, '17 Nats, '08 Angels) all failed to advance in the playoffs

In the wake of terrorist attacks on New York City's World Trade Center and the Pentagon, Major League Baseball cancels all games for security reasons and for the deep mourning for all the lives that have been lost. Yankee Stadium is evacuated as a precautionary measure.

At Ebbets Field, Dodger catcher Al Lopez hits the last major league bounced home run in National League history. The Senior Circuit joins the American League, which had enacted the rule change in 1929, in awarding a ground-rule double to the player who hits the ball over the wall on a bounce.

According to ESPN Stats & Info, Howie Kendrick's homer in St. Louis gave the Nationals a team-record-tying 215 homers this season. At the moment, the Braves and Nats are both tied for their franchise records. With one more dinger apiece, they'll become the ninth and 10th teams this season to set new single-season home run records

now the big question is with the ball wrapped tighter than me on a Friday night 25 years ago and ball flying out of the ballpark did kids decide to fall in love with the game?
