Red-hot Edwin Encarnacion fractures wrist, becomes 15th Yankee on the injured list

Four Astros pitchers throw combined no-hitter against Mariners, the second suffered by Seattle in 2019

On Saturday, Houston Astros pitchers Aaron Sanchez, Will Harris, Joe Biagini and Chris Devenski combined to no-hit the Seattle Mariners. The Astros beat the Mariners 9-0 (box score) at Minute Maid Park.

The no-hitter was the 12th in Astros history and first since Mike Fiers no-hit the Dodgers in 2015.

The Astros held the Mariners to seven hits in a three-game sweep -- while hitting seven home runs. They are now 12-1 against the Mariners in 2019. The Astros might be better than the Mariners

The Dodgers are the first team to 75 wins ? a mark they did not reach until Sept. 2 last year. They have an 18-game lead in their division and a plus-180 run-differential.

The Mets keep rolling, shutting out the Marlins 5-0 for their fifth straight win and 12th in 13 games. Zack Wheeler tosses eight shutout innings, generating 13 groundball outs. Oh, and Pete Alonso cracked his 36th home run -- only Carlos Beltran (39) and Todd Hundley (38) had more home runs by the end of August in Mets history.

The Blue Jays' announcement Tuesday that they'll extend safety netting at the Rogers Centre brings the total to 8 MLB teams that have installed or committed to extensions since a toddler's 5/29 head injury in Houston on a foul line drive. Two ? the White Sox and Nationals ? recently debuted new netting and the Dodgers, Orioles, Pirates, Rangers and Royals said they plan extensions. Also on Tue., the NY Times reported that the two U.S. Senators from Illinois sent Commissioner Rob Manfred a letter urging a release of data on seating that is most vulnerable to dangerous liners. More than a dozen fans have been hurt since the Houston episode

Down a run, with two on and two outs in the bottom of the ninth, Russell Martin snuck a grounder through the infield, sweeping the Cardinals and giving the Dodgers their 10th walk-off this season. This team is amazing.

This is what David Price told me has been the difference between how the Dodgers have performed vs how the Red Sox have performed: "Their starting pitching has thrown the ball exceptionally well. We as a group haven't thrown to our capability yet. And look at Cody Bellinger, the season that he is having. They're doing stuff we did last year. One through 25 on the roster. Everybody had their hand in it. That's what the Dodgers have been doing this year and that's what we look forward to getting back to."

Here's more of what David Price told me about how the Red Sox have performed this season: "We haven't played our best brand of baseball yet. Last year, we did everything exceptionally well. Whether it was pitching, defense, hitting, situational hitting, base running. This year, we haven't synched up yet. To be where we are record-wise, especially after the way we started, I am okay with where we are at."

3 weeks later...Red Sox 15' behind the first place Yankees. Losers of 9 of their last 10

The Yankees bashed five more home runs, giving them 43 in 10 games at Camden Yards this season and five games with at least five home runs. Meanwhile, the Orioles have allowed 2+ home runs in 12 straight games (yes, a record). In that span they've allowed 42 home runs in 106.1 innings. But they're actually 5-7 in those games. The Houston Astros are the biggest favorites of the season today against the Baltimore Orioles. The Astros closed as -450 favorites at Caesars Sportsbook. Other sportsbooks went even higher, listing Houston as high as -550 at Station Casinos sportsbooks in Nevada.

The Los Angeles Dodgers were -485 favorites over the Atlanta Braves in 2016, the largest price on a favorite in an MLB game in at least the last 15 seasons, according to sports betting database BetLabSports.com.

The Astros beat the A's 4-1 and Zack Greinke picks up his 200th career victory, joining CC Sabathia and Justin Verlander as active pitchers with 200 wins. That's one step closer to the Hall of Fame for Greinke, who has pretty similar career numbers to the just-elected Roy Halladay:

Greinke: 200-122, 3.36 ERA, 125 ERA+, 65.5 WAR
Halladay: 203-105, 3.38 ERA, 131 ERA+, 65.4 WAR

Better known for his home run prowess, Hall of Fame slugger Jimmie Foxx starts and throws 7.2 innings, giving up just 4 hits in the Phillies' 4-2 nightcap victory over Cincinnati at Shibe Park. The 37 year-old corner infielder, playing in his final season, will take the mound a total of 9 times, posting a remarkable 1.59 ERA during 22.2 innings of work for the last place team.
