I'm not that fond of your list. Here is where it's at.

A few might be from early 80's, but I think most at least started in the 70's:

Comedies:

1. Three's Company
2. Happy Days
3. Facts of Life
4. Sanford and Son
5. Different Strokes
6. Jeffersons

Dramas:

1. Dukes of Hazzard
2. Hart to Hart
3. Charlies Angels
4. Hawaii Five-0
5. Rockford Files

kosar,

although i liked rockford & sanford & son, you can't be serious with this list...can you ?

all in the family. mash, & sanford & son were the best comedies of that time.....by far...

The implication that 'honkey' is anywhere near the same league as 'nig*er' or 'spic' is ridiculous.

Not my intention. I guess my intention was to say that any attempt at a derogoratory term at me as a white man does not have the intended effect. Most of my posts were spawned by how excited a few got at the thought of the PC police not stopping Mexicans from calling me a Gringo. You know what? I am a Gringo.

AR rekanizes the All In the Family brilliance. Give Kosar a chance to come around. His list would reflect my thinking in 1980. It's only as I grew up that I looked back and figured out what was superior. Kosar just matures later, that's all.

Sanford and Son! Yes, thank you. I knew I was forgetting an important one. Different Strokes and Facts of Life sucked. Happy Days - OK, that's a great one. Like I said before, 3's Company was only good because of the bizarre and obvious drug messages.

All in the Family is far and away the superior one of the lot though. I cannot compromise that ranking.

Dramas - definitely Rockford Files. ....Dukes of Hazzard was not a drama....that would be like calling Justin Timberlake or Bon Jovi 'rock'. Other than that, I like your list.

All in the Family was whiny. Every character whined their way through every show. It was ok. The best thing about that show was the Jeffersons spin-off.

Dukes of Hazzard was definitely a drama. Boss Hogg was evil and all of the dramatic tension he created was very real.

Threes Company was great on so many levels, not just your drug theories. You never knew what could happen before, during or after a trip to the Regal Beagle.

How many times was Jim Rockford jumped by bad guys at his beachside trailer/house thing? You'd think he start being a little more cautious when entering or maybe change his locks or something. He has to hold the record for most cold-cocks received by a TV character.

He was tough as nails and could take the punishment, but yeah, 75% of the time when he walked into his trailer, someone was waiting to ambush him.

I sense that you have a problem with my list. Those were the best shows of that era, period!

BTW-I've seen MASH all of about 10 times in my life and it sucks!

My point is that words like 'honkey' and 'gringo' aren't even slurs.

It's easy for us to say, 'doesn't bug me at all, so why should it bug them', when the terms aren't even comparable.

Kosar - don't get me wrong - I think Dukes of Hazzard was brilliant. I'm having trouble categorizing it though. ....I'm leaning towards listing it as a cartoon.

All In the Family - actually you are right about Struthers and Meathead - they were annoying. Archie Bunker carried the show and made it the best ever. It was almost like Michael Jordan carrying an otherwise mediocre Bulls team. It succeeded in spite of the overrated Gloria Pippen and Meathead Rodman. Edith Jackson was OK.

You grew up? I'll let you know when I see any signs of that!

You keep watching Sally Struthers and 'meathead' whine, cry and snivel through every episode and i'll keep tabs on what Blair and the gang is up to on Facts of Life.

Even the All in the Family theme song is whiny. Horrible.

I've got some common ground with you on this one, although I've seen MASH a lot more than 10 times.

Something about a doctor cracking jokes while cutting into flesh that doesn't settle well with me. Hawkeye was annoying as hell, and I didnt care for his bff either.

Clinger and Radar were cool as shlt though. Probably the best episode was when Clinger tried to eat a jeep.

of course meathead & struthers were foils for archie.....which he needed....

i'll thow in a little all in the family trivia....

mickey rooney was offered the role of archie first...but turned it down because archie wasn't lovable enough.....

as far as mash....the earlier shows were a lot better & funnier...the latter shows became much more serious & became too anti viet nam

yes...as a matter of fact i was in a few school demonstrations against the viet nam war.....but that stopped when a kid in my neighborhood was killed.....

i just think that the show was a comedy & not a commentary type show...

I think, once again, my message was unclear. I was in no way comparing any term to any others. The bad thing is is that we agree on this subject.

My only point was that if people are getting pissed because the PC police don't blow the whistle against "derogatory" terms towards whites, then they are accepting that the PC police should have any say at all.

Dawgball should be made fun of for being Catholic, not white. ....Go ahead Dawgball - point to the part of the doll where Father Hoolihan touched you. Don't be afraid, You won't go to Hades as long as you just tell us the truth. We need to know what Father Hoolihan has done in order to ban him this parrish.....and send him to a different parrish with poorer kids because their parents are less likely to raise issue, unlike yours who clearly hate God.

Our God hating is only done on Thursdays to keep the rest of the parrish in the dark. Please refrain from commenting until tomorrow.

Few things on this forum truly make me laugh out loud... this one did the trick!

I always considered Facts of Live and Different Strokes as 80s shows, simply because I remember them being on, and I was born in Oct. 1978.

And Saul, speaking of slurs, did you and Brownie ever meet up the other weekend when he was in Vegas for that bachelor party?
