1st point on automatic weapons is they are not accessable to most citizens--

--on your 2nd point I welcome improvement in any area from anyone--however long way to go--
When you got 12% of population committing over half of homicides--I think there is still work to be done--as with the 70% illegitamacy rates-school drop out rates-poverty etc etc.

How about everyone getting together to find solution to prob instead of making excuses--and having a candidate for pres--who was particpant in congregation for 20 years with mentor/uncle that is root of prob. ;)

"Root" of problem? Wouldn't you say that is a bit excessive?

Solution - yeah, great idea. First time you've ever gone that direction with your monotonous numbers. We are already touching on that. For starters, we were trying to determine why the homicide rate among blacks (the chart in your 'stats favs' folder) dropped so dramatically in the '90's. Can you shed some insight or theories on this, DTB....

I'm thinking I'm on the road within 2/3 years. Thinking an hour or so outside of the city for a bit. Then maybe bolt all together if I could get another biz started elsewhere.

All I ask is that you wonderful people spend a small chunk of $$ in the Wicker Park/Bucktown/Uke Village area when you come to the city.

I've dropped loads of money at the Map Room in my lifetime!

Does that notorious late night bar Riptide count as Bucktown? If so, same as above.

I once had a waitress at Mothers (on Division I believe-maybe Rush) speak about my friend and I, to another friend, that 'one guy can't even walk and the other is just an asshole.'

Surprisingly, I was the asshole one.

The one that couldn't walk? The other friend and I had to lift him into the cab after he collapsed in a heap in the middle of the very busy street.

I can remember the names of only a couple Chicago bars. They were all fantastic though.

...Maybe a MJ's Chicago tour stop is in order?

Yes,

(1) Why do you think the numbers improved so much in the '90's and then leveled off after 2000?

(2) Do you have any ideas or theories as to why the homicide rate has been so much higher among blacks?

Yes. Been going there for 20 years. It's not the same though and I think some il activities may be abound. Maria has kind of lost it upstairs. If you had any dealings with the old lady, you would know how sharp she once was. Now she comes down, generally during the week, and sits in a tank top, no teeth, hair almost all gone, but I think she still remembers me even though she has to be pushing 90. It's sad. From what Tina (heavy bartender that sings all those juke box songs) told me, Maria was a millimeter away from totally losing the entire business. Tina then took things over and after many months cleared things up, re-opened, and runs the show now. I don't want to talk poorly about Tina, but I think she took a property/business that's probably worth 4/5 million right from under the old lady. Maria still lives upstairs and Tina is there for busy nights. It hasn't been the same since the old battle ax bartender/bouncer Shirley died of cancer years ago. Saw HER once pick up a guy and pin him to the back wall like something out of a movie. I would consider myself a fairly good friend of Tina and her husband (another massive human being that worked the door in the past). I know a great deal about Tina and she (and husband) has had a very "colorful" past. Bar still gets some of the FINEST talent. You can sit in there at 1 or 2 in the morning and some drop dead gorgeous woman could come in and sit next to you at the bar and throw a few back. At the same time you could sit next to a serial killer, but that's Bucktown. Some of the Cubs live right down the street and come in also. I still stop by Maria's Riptide Lounge once every 2 or 3 months with my gf, Maria. She grew up across from Wicker Park itself back when that whole neighborhood was VERY bad.

A new joint to check out when you'all gets back, Chicago 5 Star or 5 Star Chicago or something. It's on Chicago Ave West of the Kennedy and East of Damen. HOT HOT rough looking tattoed bartendars. HOT talent walking around. Ton of tv's, good eats (GREAT burger), ton of variety of booze, no parking, bums up and down the street trying to sell you some dead guys shoes. Chicago Ave seems to be the new trendy stretch right now. Try to get there early to establish a position for viewing and also for watching the tv's. I don't know how long it's been but Milwaukee Ave has also had a bit of turnover in the last 3/4 years. There's a piano bar down by Wood and a couple newer/remodeled bars before Damen. There's a great new little neighborhood Italian restaurant on North called Lucia's, byob. Also another nice new place is on the SE corner of Mil & Damen called Francescha's (spelling?), next to the Double Door.

The Map Room is still there but was never one of my main haunts for some reason. The gf has the low down on that place. I was generally more East. I miss the Artful Dodger, now condos.

Rush Street and that whole viagra triangle is pretty lame. I don't want to sit here and defend Chicago now, but that's not Chicago. Hugo's Frog Bar is alright but the rest is walking STD's and old people looking to get laid. Mandelli's (awesome small shot and beer bar there) and the long time old Italian restaurant right next to it were great but have since fallen to developers.

Gave you my theory on that a while back smurph--same reason for results of all other stats--Sorry but I have to write off the fav -slavery gambit--for simple fact it's world wide--Can you name properous black region in the world? Are there any other cultures in the world living in primitive states on numerous continents

I certainly don't mean that disrespectfully--but as matter of observation and statistical data.
Throughout history cultures have had diff tendendecies/traits.As always there have been exceptions but generalities always seem to surface.

Anyway thats my opinion and right or wrong it sure beats the slavery bit by eons from logical stand point.

Thats not to say everyone doesn't deserve equal respect--I will agree with you that many minorities regardless of race have to work harder to achieve same success which is not right--but when you see those that do put in the extra effort and succeed we have to give that much more credit--in my opinion anyway.

--on the murder issue--while blacks commit more murders -it is also the black community on receiving end of most the murders--which makes the latter more of a travesty than the former IMO.

So you are saying that the homicide rate for blacks in the US is so high because blacks are more primitive than other races?

...Please correct me if I'm misinterpreting that.

Jay,

Rush and Division is the biggest party area in Chicago. You know it and I know it. It's where we ended up that night, and a lot of other nights, for that matter, when I lived up there.

It wasn't a 'viagra triangle.' Maybe it is now, but I doubt it.

Rush Street

At the core of Rush Street is a bustling nightlife nook known as the Viagra Triangle. An unholy, if well-dressed, congregation of leering lotharios and hot honeys, stogie-puffing conventioneers and high-priced hookers, it gives Chicago's hippest strip a bad (or, depending on your predilections, good) rap. Its saving grace: the more tranquil, relatively poseur-free zone between Oak Street and Chicago Avenue. Here, some spots to hit.

and Jilly's is THE WORST F'N BAR in the entire country

Kosar, if it works for you, God bless ya. Most average citizens of this fair city do not go to Rush street for a good time. It's a hold over from the late 70's early 80's disco scene.

Hey, man.

It's been 10 years at least since i've been in that area. Like I said, maybe it's changed.

Back then(not just 10 years ago, but another 8 years before it), it was certainly not the viagra triangle.

Things change, and if that area has changed, i'm not particularly interested in spending more time 'defending' it, when I haven't been there in forever.

It was a hell of a lot of fun back in the day.

Matt, just trying to get you into the now. Not that I'm super hip or anything (see t-shirt picture at golf outing) but I do like to get out and am not afraid to spend my money. It's actually a problem because Maria is completely spoiled now. The talent walking around Bucktown tonight would blow away anything you ever came across at tiny Rush St.

at 40 years old with no kids and never married I do know a few places to go to

You let me know if you get back here.

We now only have VAnurse, Kelly (I guess), and GMRoz (j/k). Double H and Mama are pretty much gone, and the other one is really sick.
