It's like living in an ant hill here today.
I tell you what, the installers are all Mexican-American and they are busting their asses to beat the worst afternoon heat I suppose but they're freaking the dogs out. No nail guns, all installed by hand. I guess because they can't keep steady compression when so many guys using the nail guns and the nails don't get a full hit. So they use hammers all the time. Owner of company says he doesn't get call backs due to popped nails anymore. I didn't know that was an issue but he tells me that you should require hand hammers as home owner if getting roof replaced. FYI

Good luck with that Cris,

I have a lot of trees just inside my property line I will need removed soon and I will probably have that professionally done. What I'm worried about more is the mess they are going to make with the roots. I'll most likely get a skidster for a few days to work on it. My only worry is that some of those roots will be really big.

Cheers,

why they don't use screws ?

quicker, safer, lasts/tightens better than nails, no banging and they are recyclable :0008

The reason you should only use a roofer that does it's nailing with hammers is because not every spot is the same. With a nail gun they use the same pressure for every nail. That means that some won't in far enough and some will go in too far and screw the integrity of the shingle. Someone that's use to using a hammer will do a much cleaner job. Saying that, most use nail guns because of the time saved.

FDC if you don't mind me asking, how many squares are you having put on? And price? My wife and I were just talking about our roof last night. I would like to put a new one on but I have no clue what the price of a square is anymore.

the roots on pine trees grow straight down. thats why they get blown over so much in wind.

if they have large equipment should be no issue.

grading and hauling away after is what cost the money.

Yep, a lot of the trees are poplars. I don't care about the big ones. There are 4 or 5 of them, plan on just trimming those. It's the small ones I plan on getting a chainsaw or axe and getting rid of those (they are not that big). Luckily, I don't have any dead ones on my property. However, it will take some work. They are on a bit of an uphill slope.
