The reason you should only use a roofer that does it's nailing with hammers is because not every spot is the same. With a nail gun they use the same pressure for every nail. That means that some won't in far enough and some will go in too far and screw the integrity of the shingle. Someone that's use to using a hammer will do a much cleaner job. Saying that, most use nail guns because of the time saved.

FDC if you don't mind me asking, how many squares are you having put on? And price? My wife and I were just talking about our roof last night. I would like to put a new one on but I have no clue what the price of a square is anymore.
I went with stormtex and I got 25 year 4 square I believe. My insurance covered it and they covered the deductible. It was $4500.00 once all said and done. I hope that answers your question but if not I'll ask tomorrow.

Oh I got you. I think it was either 25 or 28 squares and total would have been $6700. But they covered deductible so ultimately they got paid $4500

layin,I don`t know what you guys use down there in the southwest heat but a friend`s brother is a roofer and gave me a good deal about 12 years ago...we went with the architectural shingles and they seem to be holding up pretty well(still relatively new and I check the gutters several times every year)..we get very strong sun exposure......20 year guarantee or something(I think)?....

maybe they`re using different materials now......

Use to sell roofing back in the 80's. Sub contractor charged $60 a square material and labor for going over top and $100 a square with a ripoff. What has gone up so much?

And 2 jobs a week falls in his lap.

Get contract.
Order material for pickup.
Pickup crew, get material and go to job site.
Show guys the job and get them started.
Drink coffee and eat donuts, make a few calls.
Talk to a few neighbors asking about the cost.
Go eat lunch and bring the boys something back.
Make a few more calls and run 1 lead.
Go play 18 and pick the boys up at 6pm, take them home.
Next day repeat.

I might have to consider getting back into this gig. This is thunderstorm season in the midwest and there's too much work to go around. Might go hang around the roofing and siding supply houses and find a good man to handle all the work for me and get back to writing contracts.

Plenty of mexicans in my town too. :SIB

Somebody has to plan and organize and get the jobs. Joey is too busy for that stress. :0003

Plenty of Joey's picking up materials everyday at the supply houses.
